A week and a half ago I flew a 172N with an O-360 upgrade through the mountains in Montana. In and out of Meadow Creek (0S1) was no trouble at all. Down in the first 150m with an aggressive slip to clear 40m trees. If not for wanting to get out and breathe the fresh air I could have stopped before the next 100m passed. Taxiing back uphill required more power than I was expecting, but takeoff with normal soft field technique had us off the ground within 300m and at Vx shortly thereafter. Did a cruise climb up to 10500ft (DA was 9900 that day) and was seeing around 450fpm with two on board and full tanks. Rode an updraft on the way out of Glacier NP for a 1500fpm climb at 90KIAS 😂. Glad to see the caution taken in waiting for power on stalls with an instructor. They’re quite benign in 172s, but always better safe than sorry! For the stated mission a 172 is a fine aircraft. @@LetsGoAviate definitely had to lean to squeak that out. I wish I had brought my Sentry+ with me so I could verify with track logs but I left that behind n the trip as I wasn’t sure I would fly and had limited baggage space.
The only distance metric I used that I didn't give in meters was altitude. Feet is the standard unit for altitude in aviation internationally. The other measurements I showed both in metric and imperial. With almost 50% of my viewers located in the USA, for me it makes sense to be inclusive and show both units.
