Sorry but another reason for Ivar's nick names could be that he thought of a cunning, apparently in Scandinavia there is a tradition of someone with cunning wits as boneless because like a worm or a snake they can wiggle out of difficult situations.

Brilliant video.
Ivarr was likely called "Boneless" for much the same reason his brother, Bjorn, was called "Ironside". Meaning that during a battle, he probably received a blow(s) from a mace/club/axe/etc (something that should have crushed whichever bones were struck) yet Ivarr walked away unscathed. Hence the name - Ivarr the Boneless.
Very good theory! My theory is that he either had huge bones and was huge man hence the ironice nickname OR that he would move around the battlefield with such ease and was such an amazing warrior that he got the name boneless due to the way he fought! Anyway I hope you enjoyed the video!
There may be an Anglo-Saxon chronicle that depicts Ivar as a berserker who is nimble and flexible, leading some to think he’s “Boneless” because of his deftness and ability to avoid blows

"Boneles" had nothing to do weak bones, anlgos... ben means the same bone and legs/feet. He was simply fast on his feet.
Edit: In Danish he is Ivar Benløs... meaning he's fast on his legs. Muscular is then Muskel-løs meaning he's strong.

It's a little sad that the show Vikings got things so wrong. True history, or at least what we know of it, would have been even better of a story
The explanation for the name Ivar the Boneless is simple enough if you speak Swedish. The word for bone and leg are the same words. In old Norse he was known as Ivarr hinn Beinlaus which means in this context: legless, not boneless. He was likely born with a condition where his legs were either missing or severely stunted, perhaps similar to the effects in modern times that the morning sickness medication Thalidomide taken by expectant mothers had on unborn babies who were born missing one or more limbs or severely underdeveloped.
It rather means he was a great warrior on the battlefield and swift on his legs🤷🏻♀️
It has also been stated that his warriors carried him around on a shield.
@@gayprepperz6862 true but that were the enemies shields, many viking war lords were carried on the enemies shields. Its the same thing as we flip of someone we dont like. So that is not a theory that can support that he couldn’t walk.

It's hard to understand their hatred towards the Christians. So strange how the Scandinavian warriors suddenly in the year of 793 started to attack Churches and monasteries in western Europe while at the same time had very friendly relations with Christians in eastern Europe.
According to modern day historians it was because they just hated and were bandits. It had nothing to do with the ruler of western Europe at the time, Charlemagne (768-814), who lead a crusade against the heathens and mass-slaughtered them and destroyed and burned down their shrines. That's such a longshot.
Back then if you were not Christian, you were thought to not have a soul. You have to remember how strong the power of religion was back then. Indeed Charlemagne’s purge of the heathens influenced the rest of Europe to fall in line. I think they hated the heathens for a variety of reasons. Thank you for watching the video! Remember that when the winner writes history, the point of view becomes skewed. There propably was problems with both roman and christian expansion northwards. Germanic tribes and mort northern, later viking, tribes would know of each other and interact. Meanwhile, life was very harsh in Scandinavia and before the viking age, there was some years after a climatic catastrophe that made the crops weak etc.. and is thought to have reformed the norse beliefs and forced village to raid village for survival, thus laying the foundation for the harsh culture. Neitherless, the nordic people were not only vikings. Most were not, they were farmers and traders, priests and fishermen, wood crafters and shipbuilders.. etc etc..

The environmental catastrophe was about 400 years before Scandinavians started to raid Christian sanctuaries. The Viking era had very prosperous era in Scandinavia with warmer weather than even today.
You could say some Scandinavians were farmers but more fitting with today's language would be to call them plantation owners. They had slaves to do the actual farming.
The only village I know of that has had an extensive archeological dig (25% of a village of about 500-1000 inhabitants) shows a lot of military barracks and slave barracks.
To me it looks like the Scandinavian society was in between ancient Rome and knighthood era (a la Charlemagne). In a couple of sources (most famously Voluspa) they list the social ranking from slave to king.
And in Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon writings it's clear they were very close. In the upper class they were family. Scandinavians told the story of German hero Sigfried/Sigurd and Germans told the story of Swedish Beowulf and Danish Hrothgar. So if Charlemagne slaughtered a village in Germany he probably killed relatives to Scandinavians too. Most likely of noble birth.
I read the sources and results of archeology and rarely the conclusions of universities and media who aren't very objective.

I have a story that is absolutely true and will blow your minds!! Courtney Cox of Friends traced her ancestry on the show Who Do You Think You Are. Her lineage was traced back to a wealthy family in England. That family and her lineage can actually be traced to William the Conqueror! I shit you not. Which means she is a descendant of Rollo. Holy Shit!! Don’t take my word for it, go watch that episode, it’s on UA-cam.
She is my distant cousin. I am descended from William the bastard(so Rollo) plus Bjorn and Sigurd.

Viking was an action, not a race. The "Vikings" were from Norway, Denmark etc and Viking was the act of sailing out to sea. There *were* African and Middle Eastern Vikings

Wrong. The viking wrote many runic inscriptions. Also every source is in the description. Icelandic sagas, Norse sagas, we’re all written after the fact by historians, scholars and poets at the time. There is also the Anglo Saxon chronicle written by the monks and historians who saw the vikings arrive in the English shores first hand.
I do not think I like Ivar very Much, too, much anger and Hate!
