In this video, I share my round 9 chess game against Grandmaster Zhansaya Abdumalik from the Gibraltar Battle of the Sexes tournament. The game featured a rare variation of the Sicilian Defense known as the "Dragondorf" (or dragdorf) which led to a chaotic and tactical middlegame.
Rosen vs Muzychuk (I surprised a Grandmaster on Move 3. She surprised me on move 43) • I surprised a grandmas...

I really like these longer recaps in terms of time per game.
30 minutes lets you explain things, and you do it well.
I always absolutly love eric's games, wheather he wins or looses. Whar makes him my all time favorite is his attitude towards that there is always something to learn and get better.
imrosen the goat, truly

Watched the Gibraltar live. Eric by far had the most fans rooting for him. He's a damn beast.
Because he was the only professional streamer?
Not only a damn beast, Eric is also just a good dude
Keep in mind that Eric was the lowest rated player in the tournament and he still performed well enough to add rating points. This was a brutal loss, but I suspect it was also an educational loss as well.
Not so brutal honestly, he has the whole game under control he just freaked out at some point
Yes, this is a very instructive loss. Eric is definitely improving his game!
To be honest, I think Eric played like a GM for 97% of this game. The time trouble got to him. If he had not encountered that trouble with the time I’m confident he could have guided this to a win. Once he masters that aspect I can’t see why he won’t become a GM.
Couldnot believe it. I am low rated but still noted the undefended piece once king pins himself. Eric plays so much bullet that it is hard to expkain other than something psyhological. He was winning this so nicely that I felt so bad for him. Maybe he needs some type of training to help this part, more than his chess. Anyway, great to see he is trying to do nore than streaming.
What surprises me the most is that Eric always seems to do really well in opening and middle game but ends up doing worse in time trouble and endgame. Given that Eric plays so many blitz games, one would imagine that he would be rock solid in time pressure. Hopefully, he will find his way around handling time pressure on the board and eventually become GM not that this really matters much.
This is why Eric Rosen is the most interesting to watch chess player of all time. Like for real, forget titles, forget rating. If you were to compare this with athletes who must put on a show, such as boxers or MMA fighters, Eric is #1 in terms of entertainment and filling the seats.
This is one of my favorite and highest scoring openings. The Dragodorf is such a tricky line and a lot of players don't know how to play against it properly. So, I was really excited to see you play this game.
Do you mean the h5 line specifically? I love the initiative I get on the queen side when playing "dragondorf" but when white defends properly I keep finding myself bulldozed on the king side with little counterplay options.
@@skysphr Yes, I play the h5 line. It's also tricky to play as back as well. I often times delay castling for quite a while (although sometimes that gets me in trouble) and sometimes I don't castle at all if I have enough of a strong attack on the queenside.
@@kaseyperkins8 Delaying castling might be the spice I've been missing, as I often found my pawn storm against white's 0-0-0 a tempo behind. I'll keep this idea in mind, thanks!
@@skysphrtry the accelerated dragon. it saves you a tempo
Aw man, no wonder you took so long to upload this! Such an interesting and educational game, though. Great presentation.
Love these recaps man
I love these recaps, thanks for doing them! Can’t wait for the last round and still hoping for the final round from Dubai at some point
Lets go! I appreciate you keeping up with this until completion, because getting my favorite chess personality to talk about deep chess just has to be good for me
Thanks for the talk through of the game…..very enjoyable as ever 👍
Very happy to see you finishing this tournament recap. I find these videos as some of the most entertaining chess content on UA-cam
One the best tactical game I’ve ever seen , so sharp and hard to find the best move in the middle game , this is why the i love chess , thanks Eric for this beautiful game , really enjoyable to watch
Big props for posting a loss. Learn so much about and so many different pins from your vids. Thanks for still posting on yt
“i do want to thank the sponsor for this video, which is no one unfortunately” 😅😢 poor eric
I remember the game and all the reactions, I was very sad but at the same time happy to see you trying to continue. It's not easy to comment on that game really. Thanks for sharing the game and your feelings. Go Rosen 👍
I enjoyed the game, your commentary and concise explanation of the moves and positions helped me learn something today.
"he ain't a chess player, he's a kamakazi pilot" lol that's our Eric for you! Unlucky there mate, so close but atleast you have learnt a lot from that game. Really enjoyed that recap recap.
Boo spoiler as top comment before I can even watch it
What a rollercoaster. Thanks for the recap
14:46 Wish Eric would've gone into why he wanted to keep the queen a bit more besides "I was more attacking"
Eric is strong enough to achieve a won position vs. a GM...which is just one step shy of actually beating a GM. But knowing his excellent study habits, he will learn from this loss and eventually break 2400 again...
the power of time pressure is absolute.
it breaks your way of thinking and makes you reckless and forces you to make dumb decisions.
GG man, without the time pressure I’m sure you would have crushed it! Very interesting play regardless, great job!
"Before we jump into it, I do want to thank the sponsor of today's video..."
lol I was just about to skip ahead in the video when you said that, you got me
I need this type of calmness and love for your thing mann..trully inspirational ❤
Enjoy you videos and narration. Glad you include games you lose as well as you victories.
Darn, your opponent was fearless. Gg
Really glad to brought up your other channels, I've been subscribed to you for a little while now an love your content but i never knew you had other channels, they never even came up in my recommendations.
Great game Eric! You did well 👏
Zhansaya is a strong and solid player. Unless utter chaos, she seems like very hard to maneuver.
Hey Eric i love your videos you are one of the only chess content creators i enjoy. Much love!
combat sports hurt your face, chess hurts in the heart
Nice, that move h5 is also featured in Giri's najdorf course. It works wonders preventing the trading!
Man what a sad ending!!
You were doing so well! Good game. Nice recap
At 16:39 that was such a cool sequence of moves
Get Levi to scream at you to move faster irl 😂😂
молодец Жансая!
Thanks for this. Great learning opportunity.
Zh is a /ʒ/ sound. Like invasion. Ж in russian.
I watched this live and heard all of the commentary. I was so sad for you!
This was a topsy turvy game by Eric who played gutsy chess and had Zhansaya on the ropes but blundered in time trouble . Painful but really instructive game . 22:48 was really painful . Thanks for the detailed analysis . 🙂
Everytime I watch an Eric video i have to set my volume to max. But when there is an ad, it backfires!
Hey bro, phenomenal analysis especially in the opening. Too bad you lost this game. It was surely a brilliant game until late in the middle game. Cheers!
love how the Sicilian gives these wild games.
hate how the Sicilian gives these wild games 😢
"No one" is my favorite sponsor 😂
Your audio in this video was very quiet. Consider adding voice compression and volume normalization, it makes spoken word audio have a much more consistent volume by increasing the volume when you are away from the mic and decreasing volume when you are close to the mic. Just a suggestion. Video was very good, though, I just had to turn my speakers way up
No
No
I swear every chess youtuber has the lowest audio ever. All i want is for ads to not be stupid loud cause i have my volume at 80%
One word: ouch. But, what a position! Eric storms the enemy fortifications where only grandmasters dare tread! 😄
Thank you for videos like this. Very informative.
Love watching the Dragondorf since it's my main vs 2200+ opposition.
Eric Rosen clips is my jam, man.
Wow…that was a painful ending to a triumphant game
Great Game. You got into a better Position against a Grandmaster. For the Rest of the Game we just blame the time.
I'm proud that I found Qe6, found it pretty quickly too. Great tactical idea
Eric, as your namesake, I command you to please (?) make a speedrun of 5 minutes/10 min where you explain your progress as Daniel NArodisky. I think you would do just great!
Time management is crucial, no matter what your level is. Very painful when you lose in a winning position.
GG. Thanks for showing us.
Great recap !!!
i afraid youre just too darn loud - school principal talking about Eric Rosen in the movie "Back to the future"
Eric, although you lost, you were very, very creative in your attack.
Ganondorf opening
Now I know why you stopped posting for a while. That must have been devastating! Great game though!
Love you Eric 💙
This is my favourite series :)
Advantage only in the computer but not in reality
Nice game, Mr. Rosen 👍🏻
🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿💪🏻
So many cool lines in. this game
i follow u gotham hikaru and u r and lill bit others and u r best among all of them.. ur videos are just so wholesome and easy to watch.
Ramadhan kareem, Eric. From Indonesia. Love your content so much.
That ending was so tragic...
Rosen, did you say ''şiş kebap-ed'' refering to skewer?... 😂😂 It entertained me so much, greetings from Turkey👋👋Stay positive.
Qg3 instead of Qh2 is better?
My tactic against time trouble is to always have some decent waiting moves prepared that I can play and then continue to think on the opponents time. Sadly that tactic is like tracer rounds, it works both ways ^^
A hard games to watch at the end...ohhh well.
Its ZH, not Z. ZHansaya
@20:16 BF5 is a better move right ?
He’s not a chess player. He’s a kamikaze pilot.
loved your breakdown eric! does anyone have insight why he didn't push his pawn to e5 towards the start of the game? it seems it would grab part of the center and attack the knight, forcing it backwards. the pawn would also be supported by d6 pawn.
probably because it weakens his dark squares too much and creates a permanent weakness on d6
I watched this live - the Horror!
Yoooo he has two more channels??
Can you become a GM the same way that Levy did?
Edit: it took me a day but I know it’s an April fools joke 😂
Eric’s tilts always happen off stream :( fun vid though!!
I’m on the ads still, is it a london?
Great game Eric, in the end, it was a team effort and you guys performed excellently. In the lichess broadcast, I saw the move Kxd5 played on move 50 at 26:00. Were you placing the kings on light-colored squares in the center to show white won? I mean every game ends like that but I've never seen a move like that be played online.
You can be a grand master now by submitting a whole bunch of Games where you win against other grandmasters.
Early in the game, after rd1, what is preventing Qg3?
Eric outplayed his opponent in this game, but his opponent out clocked him.
Dubai tournament recap when?
Anyone know whats up with the subscribers only thing on his twitch?
Round NEIN!
Personally, I'd combine the words Dragon and Najdorf as "Dorf-gon"
For Gondorf! For the Mark!
I am sad for you. Still, very well played sir.
23:55 Oh Eric
Qh2 was bad. Luckly, idk how, but she didn't find Rh1. f4 was just bad time management. All good bro, good conclusions, gl on finding time and mental strength for tactics practice.
pls do a basic video on Dragodorf sicilian
I've been watching your content for maybe a couple of months. You are a brilliant player, and who am I to give advice?...but yes, I've noticed that time management seems to be your downfall in many games that you lose. Easier said than done I'm sure...but at least you know what you have to do. I really appreciate your skills and teaching! Thank you!
00:35 🤣🤣
Dang it man I was mad for Eric sucks to lose the game from one blunder man
The H4 pawn is the poison pawn in this game. 😀
IM Eric should have gone for the attack instead of wasting 2 valuable moves of queen in taking that h4 pawn and he is losing most of his matches when he starts using queen as a defender.
