  • The international VulcanaSymposium on Canary Islands submarine volcanology organised by @IEO_Canarias and @GeoTenerife takes place annually in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This symposium brings together leading institutions, emergency managers, and guest speakers to share their research on submarine volcanology and adjacent fields. Speakers in this session include:
    - Juan Tomás Vázquez “Quaternary deep water volcanoes and tectonics in the lower slope of the Canary Islands”
    - Ramón Casillas Ruiz “Materials and rock structures in the submarine volcanic environment: characteristics and genesis. Examples of the 2021 La Palma eruption”
    - Montserrat Román Casamartina “Emergency management in the Canary Islands. PEVOLCA - Volcanic crisis management”
    Early career researchers:
    - Juan Pablo Martín Díaz “Direct measurements unveil the spatial distribution of hydrothermal fluid flow, heat, and nutrient outflow at Tagoro submarine volcano (Canary Islands, Spain)”
    - Cláudia Pérez Barrancos “Shifts in microbial structure response to hydrothermal fluids from Tagoro submarine Volcano (El Hierro, Spain).”
    - Eduardo Díaz Suárez “The pre-eruptive seismic series of La Palma 2021 through a fully automatic analysis”
    - Alba González Vega “Impacts of the formation of lava deltas from the Cumbre Vieja eruption on the marine environment”
    - Alejandro Román Vázques “Use of remote sensing techniques for volcanic eruption monitoring:n the 22021 eruption of La Palma island, Spain”
The presentations are followed by a q+a sessions with questions from the floor and our international virtual delegates.
The symposium will always be an open-access event and is streamed online for free to increase the audience of the science. This has allowed delegates from a range of international institutions and organisations to share their research with marine science students and academics.
