    Thank you, I cleaned up The intake and also the air cleaner there was quite a bit of oil in the cleaner compartment. I also pulled the spark plugs which had oil on them clean them a carburetor cleaner reinserted them. Engine running very good right now thank you

    I was a bit shocked by what you were doing initially, all that hard revving with no water to cool the engine, but you cured the low compression problem that's for sure. Hopefully with no detrimental effects. Very interesting vid.

      Sorry, Italians actually know what they are doing, so to advise anyone to do this method is a mistake. High performance YES , high abuse NO !! The critical part of any engine is temperature. Never do a compression test cold especially if it has lots of hours on it as a bench mark it will be false. Is the plug fouled to make you suspicious of a low comp or mis fire or lien condition. How does it sound? ALWAYS , sorry for yelling this, always warm up an engine gradually not HOT up YOUR ENGINE if you want it to last and think of warming up the oil gradually when you leave the dock WHY ? The pistons etc , cylinder walls need to expand gradually if not the metal will fatigue and become weak and crack. The internals of the engine can be so hot that some of the oil that comes in contact with it will burn and varnish losing all lubricating if it OVERHEATS from no coolant in the engine, no coolant circulation no temperature control at all, just melting and or cracking so next time you are racing with you buddies and you think life is good, your engine just lets go with a Big Bang or Crack,,, then silence as you glide to a stop if you’re lucky. Cylinder temperature, head temperature in the exhaust side VALVES , SEATS AND GUIDES WILL BE GLOWING if you run this mr 1 and free rev it like this guy is doing with no cooling . Why not do this with it connected? Because he didn’t bother to push it outside and hook it up ? Maybe he wants to melt it better ? This is your pwc, not a rental on the beach somewhere. You would never empty the cooling system of any other engine that is liquid cooled like a motorcycle or a car then rev it to FIX a compression issue. Testing needs to be done with care because you will always get a false compression reading on a cold engine. When this guy ran the engine, it got some oil up the cylinders on to the rings and sealed it better not from super heating guaranteed. It also put a lot or wear everything to get it very hot then stop ,,,,,, no water to cool the other side of the cylinder,,,,, this is one of the main reasons engines let go if you think about it. The rings need a little oil to help them seal so, if the engine won’t start and you want to do a compression test cold the other method is to add a small measured amount of oil in each cylinder then test. Yamaha mr 1 engines run hot, even with the cooling system working. #3 cylinder seems to be the worst for overheating and has issues with the spark plug seizing. A small amount of Permatex silver anti seize on the threads of your NEW PLUGS will do the trick. Why always new ? The washer on the plug is a crush ring not a typical washer for a nut and bolt . It also seals the cylinder under extreme pressure at 9 lbs of torque, less if you lube it . Can you put used plugs back in ? Yes, but why ? These plugs are cheap as toast compared to a supercharged engine mainly because they are very common. So, fresh like underwear and good to go. If your compression is lower in one cylinder by say 20% don’t tear it apart yet. Change the oil and filter and try some additives and check the compression again after a couple of rides. What do you have to lose ? Most skis run bad because of lack of maintenance do to lack of good advise so baby your baby like a good Italian. Most of the time if you just do a spark plug change with new plugs and hopefully a nice oil AND FILTER change with a good strong , tested properly battery , your pwc will run better than before and you are good to go and home again.I hope this will help you get to over 600 hours like all of my friends Yamaha mr1 engines. Just a reminder to hold the throttle open when doing a compression test for more accurate readings between cylinders. Warm engine. You are looking to get an even number across the cylinders and within 10 % is acceptable ☮️

      Redrockat , my comment was directed to average Joe’s using this information to help them understand about testing and diagnostics. I am sure you know your stuff. Thanks for the videos and good advise. I am sure it is not easy to record yourself doing repairs because people are very critical and write comments but have very little knowledge or know you and why you want to help people. Good mechanics are not always respected for how smart you have to be to diagnose and repair a problem. Customers never tell you the whole story until you question what they told you the first time. Boats can be tricky and PWC are even worse to repair after time with no maintenance or someone who buggered it up. The upside is they are a great toy when you respect them on the water and the most fun you can have with your pants on. Thanks again and Rocket On ! Btw people, tip your mechanic for doing a good job, they saved you thousands of dollars

      @@brandonterrell5271 what kind of problems ? No fuel ? All of a sudden no fuel ? Or runs but not very well like won’t rev up ? Did you check the main fuse ? Be careful after you pull it out it is a little tricky to put it back in properly. You can miss the fuse holder easily. There are three fuses and each one has a spare below it. I believe the one in the middle is fuel 20 amp and the next is for the bilge pump 10 amp. Sorry I would go check mine but it’s late and I’m too tired to double check for you. Go here first. Fuses , then if it runs shitty put in a half tank new gas , a full can of sea foam , new plugs and a good battery. If the injectors are bad they leak so fuel gets into the oil so change the oil and filter is always a good thing 10 000 rpms wMy friend took his in to the dealer for an oil service and they effed it up leaving some vacuum lines off causing it to run like poop. I always thought adding some oil to cylinders on compression test would raise the compression..by helping rings seal. Any insight???

    • @Redrockat
      @Redrockat  4 роки тому

      Michael Grabarz in theory yes the oil will push compression up , but in a motor that achieves ignition the compression will rise briefly and then fall again as the oil is burnt upon ignition .

    • @嶋田佳子-f5f

      Michael Grabarz there will be no ignition as there will be no spark plug in the hole if I am doing a compression test , have you ever done one? Just curious, if you want to do it accurately open the throttle, btw I hope your oil filter is wet, I guess you meant air filter. the oil is only for a cold engine to test the rings ,,don’t forget about valves in theory. So, if you overfilled to the point that your air box is overflowing with oil and has contaminated the throttle bodies, the intake screens are saturated, dripping raw oil , not vapors, into the intake, covering the hot intake valves, as well, the air fuel ratio is now rich because plugged filter and intake screens. Many things will happen, there will be excessive oil on the crankshaft and rods when it’s running because the sump is over filled, overfilling the tank/cooler dumping it into the intake making it run poorly and leaving nasty deposits on your valves both intake and exhaust. This may end up causing them no to seal properly so low compression but not from the rings. This will also foul your 10000 rpm spark plugs so change them they’re cheap because they are common and add a little permatex silver anti seize to the spark plug threads and do not over tighten them. Cleaning the oil out of the intake with brake cleans is ok but you will need to clean it more than once because the oil attracts sand , sandy oil going into your motor is very bad. Where does this mess go ? Everywhere I like to use take out chopsticks and strong paper with brake cleans to get the corners and tight spots with a little compressed air covering everything with some old towels. The best is to remove the screens as the spring holding them around the throttle bodies will be soaked in oil, synthetic I hope. Then most importantly, don’t ever over fill it again. 🤡💩Canadian swamp kings

    Great video. From the numbers on your compression meter, it looks like it is around 120psi(kinda fuzzy). I just bought the same ski with the mr1 motor that also is around this same compression number, yet the manual says 164 min. and other posts I see say claim it should be closer to 200. Confused here, is that normally what you see on MR1's that are in good shape?

      There are two things that might be wrong
      1- One of your fuel injectors might be hanging open . Pressure test and clean injected and pressure test again
      2 - damaged block cylinder . You may have a crinkle in the cylinder sleave or damaged rings . A compression test will not show a waved cylinder sleeve ,only visual inspection will show the wave - it looks like a crinkle in the sleeve and will have damage as the rings hit it .
      I hope this helps please let me know what you find

      2390 mac You mean over revving can spin a bearing but the MR1 engine runs max 13000 rpm on the R1 motorbike .The FX is revving max 10000 rpm and the VX on just 8000 max rpm. Both engines run well under their maximum revving capacity that's why it's not easy to blow these engines especially the VX.

    when you rebuild the engine how much oil do you put? 5liters? also when the engine is cold you should read half way between min and maxi right? and when the engine is hot then the reading would be at maxi on the dip stick? Am I correct?

    • @Redrockat
      @Redrockat  7 років тому +2

      Yes 5 litres from rebuild, which means a complete empty motor takes that amount to be full . It is a dry sump system so yes when the engine is cold and has not started the dipstick should show on the lowest mark ,then start and idle for a few seconds then the oil gets pumped out of the block into the dry sump and then the oil reading must be on the full mark 😊

Presumably this is to remove carbon build up on the cylinders and valves etc. I was under the impression that carbie cleaner would be too aggressive and running something like ring-free or seafoam in the fuel acheived the same thing?
