    You can never get rid of all of the old oil on a dry sump system like Yamaha MR1 engines have unless if you do an ''engine oil flush''. The Yamaha owner's operator's manual says on page 91: Engine oil quantity with filter replacement 2.2 liters. Engine oil total capacity 4.5 liters.That means that every time you change the oil on that engine or put it better you think that you are changing the oil 2.3 liters of the old oil remains in the dry sump system.

    So, it's 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis...and you're still helping people. I bought a 2005 FX HO with 200 hours on it that was maintained REALLY well. Thanks to you, I'm keeping that maintenance going. Hope this comment finds you well.

    Thanks Mohammad! I have actually ridden an RXPX 260. Extremely fast and awesome ski!
    I also have a friend who is an awesome PWC mechanic. By his own admission, he sees more doos and Kawis in the shop than any kind of Yamaha! Yamaha is most reliable PWC out in the market! If I were to choose between the two for myself, I would only look at FZR.

    Hello Mr. CaptainsAviation, I just watch another guy's video (Jay & Family's friends adventure) and sucks the oil from two locations. From a oil hose and from the dipstick hole. He extracted about 3.5 quarts out. And it is a Yamaha 2017 xv cruiser. Please do not get upset, I am just trying to exchange information. Thanks again,

    I appreciate the kind words. That was my intention. I normally don't do a video unless I am going to assume my audience love to do it themselves but may not know anything at all so I cover as much as I possibly can. There are videos with hundreds of thousands of hits on do it yourself stuff that don't offer any information or extremely incomplete, yet they get the hits. I did it to help :)

    well done video, thanks for sharing your experience. I just changed the oil and filter on my 06 FX HO Cruiser after watching your video. Was only able to siphon 1.75q out of the oil sump no matter how I oriented the pickup tube. Had a little trouble removing the old filter but had a strap wrench that worked finally. Great suggestion about the filter with the nut, I will order 2 more KN303 for next change. After the oil change, it's running great. I'm going to slide open the old filter and inspect it. I was getting intermittent oil pressure light at 2000 rpm, this motor was completely rebuilt over the winter so I suspect maybe a partially clogged filter. was planning to change to the oil and filter anyone. hope this solves the problem.

    That long staw on the end of that pump is intended to go down the hole the oil dipstick comes out of.

    • @user-ei6zy3pv6h
      @user-ei6zy3pv6h 2 роки тому

      Just so you know there is no dip stick tube the tank is actually an oil cooler and the engine is a dry sump so running the engine on the flush hose for a few minutes until you feel the water coming out the side is warm not hot. The oil pumps up into the tank then extract. Paint tray liners can help catch some of the oil from under the filter with the filter loose. Wait to do this as the oil will be hot ! Don’t forget to wear your onesie. After an oil service take some oil with you on your next ride and check the oil level either at the dock after 10 minutes of warm up or at the beach with your ski floating and add if you have to. If it is high then you need to extract some out as soon as possible. Extra will blow into the intake air box and make a mess . There is an overflow tube from the tank going to the box. Later on from the Canadian swamp kings

      Everyone is quick to criticize or think they are better mechanics, you give them enough time they can fix darn near anything kind of stuff. I’ve been around , and was a shop Forman in San Jose @ Courtesy Chevrolet at the ripe old age of 25 in the 80’s. I’ve seen the know-it alls fumble, and the so called experts cut corners, they all get come backs for sloppy work and break stuff trying to do it “ the fast way “. Sure this guy isn’t a pro but he is on camera without any director or script. He didn’t make any mistakes or retakes, did a thorough job and did the service after a ride. Is the video perfect or his technique? Maybe not but it will get you over the hump or advance your method. Changing oil in a Yamaha PWC is not easy even for a pro like me, ASE Master technician, master mechanic , all around wizard , Renaissance man. YOU always need some advise if you are a novice or a pro unless you are a jerk with a huge ego, so to all of you experts who said thumbs down I bet you had to guess how to repair something at one time, had some nuts and bolts left over, cross threaded into aluminum, put silicone on a gasket, over tightened a fastener or oil filter and left it to see if it would hold or fail. Karma is real in the mechanical world so double check your trailer hitches bitches and try not to be so critical about people making a video like this. Ok see you at the dock oh ya, remember that there are still a few old guys out there that are still faster than you.

    If VX waverunner was stored for 10-12 months and I want to do oilchange before season how do I extract what I don't see? Meaning there is no oil visible (in oil pan, dipstick dry) to extract like you did in video. Do I just have to drain 2.5qts after pulling oil filter or do I start up on land and let run for awhile to get oil to refill (makes me nervous to do)? Any help appreciated and thanks for video it was great

    • @user-ei6zy3pv6h

      At that kind of mileage or hours all of the oil lubrications have broken down and no longer function. Ten Thousand RPM ! It’s not a Briggs and Davidson. Your timing chain will be grinding away not to mention everything else. At 50 % oil life left in your car you risk premature wear, at 10,000 rpm it happens a lot faster. Learning to change your own oil is a privilege to me like peeing standing up. That should be a bumper sticker on every fossil fueled machine.

    I never owned a 2 stroke pwc but have dealt with small 2 stroke engines, sometimes if your low end is lean it does that! How high does it rev up? I assumed you meant high idle! If it is revving up more like 1/4-1/3 throttle then you have other issues. Post your question on pwctoday. com there are people with 2 stroke background that can help you!

      Every 50 hours, and the end of season , grease your shaft bearing, its a zirk fitting . Fill with non ethanol gas if stored outside or in , service your battery, remove your jewelry first, remove your battery from the PWC, take another sip, and dream of next spring !

    • @user-ei6zy3pv6h
      @user-ei6zy3pv6h 2 роки тому

      I have removed almost all of the oil , over 4 liters by spinning the filter off to leave a small gap , then turning the engine over for a couple of seconds being careful not to start it . You can disable the spark plugs at the coils if you like easy to do. Like all things that are better take more effort. This is advanced technique only in Canada, anyway, make sure you have a paint tray liner and towels under the tray, take another sip, then use the oil extractor and suck the oil from the paint tray. Just remember you are removing most of the oil first from the tank. There are two levels in the tank so if you can get your tube to the bottom you will be very happy like Canadians ha ha. The best oil to change is cleaner oil not a double espresso. Btw flush your baby at home on the hose instead of burping it out dry at the dock because you risk cracking your case at the #3:cylinder remember you just raced your buddy back to the dock to get on the trailer first so it’s smoking hot and needs to be cooled down or wtf water in the hull stuff. Trust me on this one, I always get on the trailer first ! Ha ha , Canadian swamp kings

      Bob, amount of oil coming out is very little in fact you can change the filter with engine filled with oil. The mechanism wouldn't allow the oil to drain (I heard this from a valid source but haven't tried it myself)

    • @mikefrye1090
      @mikefrye1090 8 років тому

      I put 3-4 paper towels under filter while removing. Oil will drip out when you remove filter and while you are removing old filter and getting new one ready. Not a ton, but enough to make a little mess.
