Fun fact: the mirror in front of V says Save Me but if you flip it, it says I’m Fine. Which are two of BTS songs which connect to one another which is really cool! I encourage you guys to react to them sometime.
...and, Kyle, in relation to what you said about pretending to be fine when you're not, the save me as an internal feeling while simultaneously presenting I'm fine as an external behavior rings true in this song.
I love your mentioning of men's mental health! I don't think I've heard anyone actively bring that up with this song, but you're right, there is such a problem in the way that society at large treats men's pain and I think that these lyrics could easily apply to that, especially because the members themselves are such positive examples of being healthily emotional. They're not afraid to cry in front of others or explain their pain, so they really are role models in that specific area, not just for men but for everyone.
This is the song that really pulled me into BTS. They found me at my lowest. How I relate to this song is through self love. I tried to portray myself a certain way and I tried to mold myself into someone I'm not for someone else. If I didn't know myself and love myself, how could I love someone else? I didn't have self love, therefore the love I had for myself was fake. And if I had to mold myself for someone else to love me, their love towards me was fake. Cliche, but this song really opened my eyes to look at all my relationships. Relationships with myself, my ex-husband, my friends and family. BTS always finds you when you need them most. 💜
I totally identify with your comment, that's what happened to me. And despite the fact that I started with BTS with other songs, which also identified me, this one made me see, just the situation with my ex, and it is as you describe it.
@@higiniadefreitas6181 I'm glad we both found BTS. I had been listening to them casually or when my daughter played their songs, but it wasn't until this song came out that I started to read their lyrics and I was blown away. I only wish that I understood Korean to fully appreciate the songs more. Even with english translations it already seems so poetic. Imagine listening in Korean!
@@psin4953 yes, totally, I have to look for the translation in Spanish, because My English more or less, (I have to rely on Google translator/sorry), and I have even learned a lot of English, I would love to learn Korean, maybe in the future. 👋😃
Yes, this one runs deep, it is part of the BU, but it also stands on its own. A lot of the visuals are symbolism related to the BU (Bangtan Universe- which is a complicated, underlying, fictional storyline that threads through some of their videos, webtoon, short stories, and short films).
@@asleeplessroad Oh you poor thing, you won't ever finish....we're still in the rabbit hole I'm still lost and I think I've been down here for 4 years now, maybe longer I don't know anymore, I just keep traveling deeper
When you said this feels different from their other music i realized that you've heard like 5 songs. I'm so excited because you're so early on with your dive into BTS and you guys really have no idea how much content there is. Even if you think you do, you don't 😅 I've never seen an artist put out so much stuff from music to behind the scenes to documentaries and variety shows and everything. So I'm tempted to recommend like everything and it's hard to choose one thing 😅
Exactly! This is why I never recommend bc I don't have a favorite ... bc there are sooooo many favorites!!! 😄😄 My daughter challenged me to name my top 5 BTS songs (not solo BTS-members, not a specific line, and based on the song not the mv or live performance). I had to add 10 honorable mentions and I still was adding songs for 2 days after the challenge bc "Oh I forgot about...", "I can't leave out...", "Dang that's my jam...", so on and so forth. Needless to say, I couldn't narrow it down.🤷🏾 There are just too many favorite songs, not even considering fave RUN BTS episode, favorite In the Soop or Bon Voyage season, favorite Vlive, favorite Bangtan Bomb, fave awards show performance, fave concert stage, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!!💜💜💜💜💜💜💜😄😄
Firstly everything you see isn't CGI and that includes the water and fire. I love the story line thruout this MV and the choreo is amazing (you shuld really check the dance practice of this song out). The vocals are like angels and the raps are also amazing and some og the best I have ever heard. (Also their song film out is like a parallel to this song and you shuld also check it out)
I'd love for you to also check out the extended version of Fake Love.. it's a bit more of a rock vibe and the scenes in the MV are, as it says, extended.. also there's a Behind the Scenes for this MV as well.. 😊💜
@@BeardsBoozeBandsBS often BTS will have multiple MV for the same song. I think you checked out ON already with 2 MV. This one as Rayna mentioned has 2 MV with the second one being an extended version. Several others especially related to the BU has 2 MV: one Korean and one Japanese. So both would are worth checking out to see how different the story telling is done in the Japanese MV.
@@BeardsBoozeBandsBS ua-cam.com/video/D_6QmL6rExk/v-deo.html Not sure if this links properly but here ya go :) Like everyone’s been saying, the extended version has a stronger rock element and more scenes, and just as the scenes are thematic to both the song lyrics and the BU (bangtan universe) storyline, the bonus scenes fills out the metaphors and analogies a lot further than the main music video.
No, the rooms are reflecting their personas in the BTS Universe. This song is apart of the BU so the visual cues are all related to their story line images. In the BU, the videos are closely related to their characters but the songs usually aren't.
This mv is part of their storyline (Bangtan Universe/BU) which is worth checking out if you have the time. Someone will likely leave a list of the videos. This song is from the Love Yourself trilogy of albums. The first, LY: Her was about the excitement and bliss of new love. The second, LY: Tear (which this is from) covered the dark side of love. The third, LY: Answer was about needing to love yourself in order to experience true love with others.
omg the way you can see the kitty's ears just above the MV box sometimes lol!!! SO CUTE!!! anyways, i like your interpretation of the MV. I think overall it's about trying to be someone you're not for another person, and I think toxic masculinity and the pressure to present yourself in a certain way as a man definitely falls into that. I'm sure there are plenty of men who hide their emotions (or flat out ignore them), because they don't want their friends or partners to see them as a "wuss" or not "manly".
I listen to this song daily! I am working on self-love/reflection. These young men have done more for my mental health than any "therapist". I felt nothing inside for a very long time, I floated through my life after I lost my brother. Their music got me off my couch and I started to FEEL EMOTIONS again. I felt my heart beating! I have done a TON of crying. I smile and dance now, I sing out loud and work on self-love. That is the hardest thing to do in this life. LEARNING TO LOVE YOURSELF. This song is a part of a very complicated storyline, and it will blow your mind! You two are very open-minded and if you decide to take that trip I'm here for it. Well done! 💜
I can totally relate. I didn't even realize how numb I'd become until I bawled my eyes out to Epiphany and came to the conclusion that I needed to drastically change some things in my life....
Sooooo there's a lot of references and easter eggs in this music video that are geared towards the BU (BTS Universe) Storyline, which is a FICTIONAL storyline that runs across multiple bts music videos that are marked in the descriptions with a BU at the bottom. It's pretty complex and really deserves a whole long deep dive into hahaha. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have time for it and it touches upon stories that might be triggering to certain people. Edit: The patriarchy and patriarchal ideals within current society dictates a lot of things and women are usually the oppressed in these matters. However, men are greatly affect as well and not always positively. I've always been an advocate for mental health and I've always tried to bring it up with my guy friends because I am always super worried about them. Sometimes I see them deal with things in such unhealthy ways it's sad and worrisome. And yet if we talk too much about our feelings and such, it can be considered too "girly" or too "feminine". Mental health has no gender. And the terms "girly" and "feminine" shouldn't be seen as a negative.
Next up is Blood, Sweat, and Tears? :D Again, LOVE watching you guys. Having watched from the first reaction video, love the sincerity in your video. And yall are funny xD
Hi, I love the talking part of your videos!!!! I think you guys bring a lot to the conversation, your opinions are always intelligent and interesting, so I was a little disappointed when you cut the talking part short simply because this was a short and not a podcast. Lol. I don't know how you film and edit your reactions so I would like to make a suggestion: maybe you could film the reaction and after it decide if it's going to be a podcast or a short. Anyway, I really don't want this to come across as an imposition, I really appreciate the content you put out, this is just a suggestion. Cheers, from Brazil.
We really appreciate this comment. We have been told that we talk to much, so we tried to curb that, but that means a lot that you appreciate and we will keep talking. Lol
@@BeardsBoozeBandsBS You can't make everybody happy. There are people like me who love the detailed interpretations and discussion, and then people who want short-short. I guess it's about finding a balance, but ultimately doing what you guys are comfortable with. Personally? I show up for your banter! :)
@@BeardsBoozeBandsBS The talking is why I like watching reaction videos. I want to hear what you think. You have great conversations and bring up interesting details - and you're funny! It's also how we get to know you guys. Do whatever works best for you and feel free to play around until you find your "just right." Thanks for all your efforts!
This mv in particular reflects a lot of their characters stories in the BU, which contains connections with the butterfly effect and time travel (the storyline runs throughout a lot of their music videos, there's even a webtoon of it you guys could check out). The rooms each member is "trapped" in hints a lot towards some characteristics related to the characters they portray, so without giving too much away here's the connections I can count of of the top of my head: RM's room kind of looks like a trailer, which ties in with his character's living conditions; Suga's room contains a piano and fire which is a visual associated to him many times throughout the mvs that follow the BU, his story is also tied with Jungkook's which we cant really see much of it here but their stories affect one another directly; V's room has a lot of cellphones which ties back to a scene from another music video where he calls RM for help; Jimin and J-Hope's stories are also connected but individually Jimin is often related with water and drowning and J-Hope is related with the the chocolate bars, childhood and narcolepsy; Jin, who in fact is the considered the main character of the story is connected directly with figuring out with the butterfly effect and using time travel in order to save every one's lives. Im sure someone else will explain it better than I did and probably link the music videos connected to the story in chronological order for you guys to check out but that's basically the main visuals we have learned to associate with the members and their characters throughout many years of theorizing what was going on until the webtoon came out and finally we had our answers. Love the reaction
Basically all the scenes of each individual is related to the storyline of bangtan universe , you can watch that on youtube , then you l able to understand their other songs video lyrics and meaning as it goes through the storyline... Then you can understand and connect more with it..!!!
Yessssss that line "I wish love was as perfect as love itself" really hit me so hard!! I love it so much. And the line "I grew a flower that can't bloom in a dream that can't come true" -OOF. The visuals are amazing. I've realised BTS work has layers. It may be related to the BTS universe for example but it also means this thing and another thing too. I always view it like you said, the rooms are their various ways they fall apart. Feeling like everything is exploding within and without you, Feeling like your drowning, feeling like Everything's burning down around you, feeling like your trapped in pretending to be joyful, feeling like you are just looking at someone else in the mirror, feeling consumed by messages and conversations etc.... and some are less content in that feeling than others. Jimin and Suga have accepted it for example, V and RM are trying to find a way out somehow, Jin has given up, Jhope is spiralling into it.
I am a little late to comment but I really really appreciate that you guys give attention to the lyrics. Afterall, one of the major reason for BTS's success is their lyrics. You guys were not far off but did get it quite correct! Fake love is a very deep song. It tells about how people change themselves and their personalities to make the person they love to love them back (it was virtually depicted by RM looking at the mirror and seeing a very polished reflection of himself but he is not able recognise himself because he has changed so much). Hence, the song is saying, your lover ultimately loves the image that you created of yourself which is not YOU! That's why it is fake love!! Hope this helps you understand a bit about the song. It is just a drop in their huge BTS Universe!!❣️❣️
I second the extended version, I think you would really appreciate the rocking vibe version. I also love the imagery of the choreography for this song with so many references to "hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil" with the hands as well as the "marionette" feel to the choreography referencing how they erase themselves to become a "doll".
Love your reaction and your final comments on this one, thank you for being real. Your perspective is interesting to me. 💜 I think you would like to react to Outro Tear.
I liked your commentary on how the lyrics could be commenting on expectations of masculinity, I think fans have also interpreted it as a commentary of the expectation of perfection as a celebrity/idol, especially with the references to modern technology/social media with the hallway full of tablets and phones flashing almost like cameras.
Welcome to the BU, we have cookies 🍪 The BU is dark deep and complicated. Complete with alternate universes and timelines. However you don’t have to go into the BU to enjoy the music. I would suggest you spend a little more time with BTS before diving into the BU rabbit hole but of course do what you feel. Hi Stormy 🐈⬛ 🙂💜💜
How happy my heart is that you mentioned Devil's Advocate... I really enjoy your reactions because of the perspective that you bring and tie in. Looking forward to you exploring more of their work.
I appreciate the fact that you guys do some research beforehand. There's so much to know about BTS that reactors who don't research any of it and go in blind miss so much, and I'm not sure they ever get it, because it takes time and effort. I get something new literally every time I watch one of their songs--and I've seen some of them a hundred times. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Them being trapped in their own rooms is a great observation. Everyone in a relationship that’s bad feels like they are experiencing it by themselves because only they know what it feels like. Then each room either has collapsing floors while trying to run, or flooding, or engulfed in fire etc.
Many BTS songs deal with serious issues such as mental health. It’s one of the reasons ARMY are so passionate about BTS. Their work transcends language barriers and gets to the universal feelings we all suffer from. Their songs aren’t shallow pop songs but ones full of emotion and understanding. When we listen, we find what we need to hear that maybe we don’t find from those around us. I actually find this to be true of kpop in general. Several times I’ve been in such a depressive meltdown and things are really dark and I feel so alone, but out of nowhere a group I like will release a song or I’ll discover an old one and it will be like I’m heard. I recommend you guys check out Agust D - The Last, BTS - Spring Day (and explanation video), V- Singularity, BTS- Blue and Grey (written by V), BTS - Mikrokosmos, and BTS- We are Bulletproof the Eternal. Also these songs are the ones I mentioned found me at the exact right moment: SuperM - Better Days, Ateez - Turbulence, Ateez - One Day at a Time, and Straykids- Scars.
I'd focus on MVs first before you move to behind the scene dance practices, get to know their music, but the dance practices do show their dance and just how hard they work and amazing they are. There are also a lot of fun fan compilations for the boys, but again I would focus on getting to know them through their music first and then tackle the other things. Its a deep, deep dive down the rabbit hole of BTS 😁💜
@@BeardsBoozeBandsBS You could do both, first the MV then the dance practices or other bts stuff. We don't mind length of videos but depends on your time I guess! 😀
@@BeardsBoozeBandsBS The behind the scene videos and dance practice videos are two completely different things though. I think you'd really like the behind the scene videos. They're very short (a couple of minutes) and it would make sense to watch them while the mv's visuals are still fresh in your mind. 💜
I’m super impressed that you both picked up on the themes in the video. I am sure have been told about the BU below, but there are so many layers to their music. This album came after the group nearly disbanded and when writing these songs, the guys were able to express their feelings and pour them into the music. The song Tear is really powerful when you know how it came about. Also their Japanese single Let Go. Using fake love as the example, the layers include: the theme of the album was the pain of separation; the individual thoughts, not only of the members, but if the producers and creative team who have been with them for so many years; the video brings to life the next stage of the BU, while also visualizing the them of the album for us. Their stuff is deep deep. And it’s incredible.
A very deep song for sure. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing some personal reflections. Would have loved to hear you guys continue the conversations and really deep dive this one!
I think Fake Love is pretty widely regarded among ARMY as their best song (Hybe had Army do a bracket voting tournament via social media ahead of the release of 'Proof' to determine the three most popular songs among fans, and Fake Love was first by a loooooong shot), and the M/V aids in that a ton. In retrospect, this song is also super interesting because it ties into the Jungian psychology that ends up as the overarching theme of their next era, Map of the Soul. Visually it connects to most of the MotS:7 M/Vs and musically it connects to Black Swan. It just goes to show how purposefully they create some of their content, that they were creating and laying out these connections' years ahead of time. As far as what is going on in the M/V, that ties into the BTS universe, which is something they had been story telling visually and in album not since at least 2015's 'I Need U', I can't say too much more about it because I have very purposely avoided going down that particular sub-'rabbit hole', for my own sake. Personally, their Love Yourself era music is without compare. There is so much amazing stuff in those three albums, with Fake Love as the crown jewel.
I loved your take on this one!! It definitely seems like you felt the weight to this one. The visuals is some of my fav. The behind the scenes of this video is awesome.
I really enjoyed watching your reaction videos to BTS. I remembered when you guys first started, you didn't know who is who. And now you know who suga is, who RM is... and going into the rabbit hole of BTS content.... And everything is your own opinion but still respectful. It's really wonderful! Much love
There is context in the form of 2 (!) storylines. One is the mentioned BU and starts with "I need U" (even as theoretically the MVs before that could fit the Universe, too) The other is the one of the "Love Yourself"-albums. Begining with "Intro: Serendibity" (the falling in love) going over the main song "D.N.A." (where love feels like fate/destiny) and "Outro: Her" (where the first misstones appear) is the first album. The second begins with "Intro: Singularity" (we are hurting, we do know why but refuse to aknowledge it while knowing we will not be able to hide forever) goes over "Fake Love" (where the bond rips apart since the other never had the chance to see our real selfes and the change we forced on ourself hurts too much/is too confusing that it is stronger than the love and rips it apart; works for any kind of relationship including friend, familar and others) and ends in "Outro: Tear" (that holds the pain of the destroyed relationship). We finally get the answer on the last album "Love Yourself: Answer" with "Epiphany" where we discover that "I'm the one I should love in this world (...) my imperfect soul". Here it is already hinted at "The Map of the Soul": To love yourself you have to know yourself. Concepts play a large role and I think album titles matter a good deal with BTS. But I love your interpretation. It is just as right. We lie too much (to ourself as well as others) it will destroy ourself/the bond tainted by them. Society pushes too many stupid rules on people. BTS has a good way of showing that. You nice! Keep going!
The amount of symbolism, and how it ties to the BU, impresses me every time I watch this. Not one scene or prop or outfit is coincidental. Even the jerky way that Jimin is dancing compared to the others... And yes, I think your interpretation of lyrics is spot on. As well as your view of them being trapped in their separate rooms with JK watching them (as the young, impressionable one) and unsure how to reach them.
I agree that watching the behind the scenes video for this one is so impressive. The work put into this mv is mind blowing and you get the guy's input. I enjoyed it immensely. Great reaction!! You guys are very progressive thinkers and not afraid to put it out there.
This was the song that did it for me! Before this, I was completely like, "No, no boyband pop thank you." I saw this, snd I was floored. I felt like I had been living in some alternative universe and my entire reality had been upside down. This is the feeling of falling down this awesome rabbit hole. 😂 Also: if you wanted to talk more about this video and this topic, I highly recommend the extended version of the video. There's more story and context in it, and the mix is more rock, which I think you might dig.
I just realize you recognize their faces and know their names already, that's impressive and appreciated. I had a hard time at the beginning with 2 of the members cause I was confused between them. I really like your reactions, you're open minded and that's the best way to go with BTS.
I’m new ARMY beginning of this year and I’m in awe of their talents every time I watch them. I watched their PTD concert in Vegas from the comfort of my living room when they broadcasted Day 4💜 please do watch all their videos because they all tie into each other like a beautiful movie you can watch over and over 🥰
Thank you for your reaction, I'm glad you're getting more into their other songs. I think you got the message pretty well, and I always love how y'all have an in depth disscussion at the end 💜💜
Thank you for your mention of men’s mental health! In society it is sadly still looked down upon and not really mentioned a lot as well. TW: Mention of death Fake Love is really special to me. When the release of the song and album was a round the corner my grandma was getting really sick. We got told that she would have long to live. At that time I was on autopilot. The things I did, the things I felt like I wasn’t really controlling it myself. Every time I was at my grandmas I showed emotions of happiness because I didn’t want her to feel emotional pain by seeing me being sad. She already had to live through so much physical pain. So whenever they sing the phrase ´For you I could pretend like I was happy when I was sad. For you I could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt´ I always think of my grandma. The first time I mourned her death was while listening to Fake Love. This song will alway connect my to my grandma and I know BTS will never know how much this song means to me but I am so grateful this song exists. 💜💜💜 for you ARMY as well! And whoever read this thank you for reading 💜
Oh, I love the new dude in the team. Great addition, he made great points! Oh would have love if you two talked more about the interpretation of what you thought the song was about and the struggle of "always needing to be strong" because of society. That was really interesting.
One of my favorite BTS title tracks...if not THE favorite. I think the best songs are open to many interpretations and this certainly is that. They even purposefully don't use any gendered pronouns or language in this song so everyone can apply it to their own life or situation. When this song first came out the band talked about how the original production to this song was a lot darker and more rock sounding. As a title track, they had to change it a bit to make it a better song to dance and perform to. Shortly after they did release the rock version along with an extended version of this music video. Personally I think that version of the song is even better! Maybe you could react to it and do a full podcast on that version? The making of is also incredible as this is the music video famous for using as much practical (vs virtual) effects as possible. Regardless, So glad y'all reacted and enjoyed one of my faves!
Really enjoy your reactions and comments. As others have or will mention there is a whole story line behind a series of their videos. PLEASE do Blood, Sweat and Tears mv. Guarantee there will be a ton to “unpack” which I think you both will appreciate., aside from the fact that’s it’s a visual feast and a great song! Thanks guys💜
RM once said that anyone can have their own interpretation to their songs depending on how you relate to it on a personal level. They may have their own idea when they were writing the lyrics but it can hit you with a different message based on your own experiences.
BTS mentioned before the music/art they create is only a partial piece, it needs us to listen and interpret our own way for it to be complete. So it resonates with you, no matter the direction, it has filled its purpose. Personally I like the BTSxARMY interpretation of the song, they were really trying to say it’s “fake love” to view them as “dolls”, to force them to hide their own selves, to want things to be perfect all the time. That’s one of the initial songs from their LOVE YOURSELF series where they explore the many facets of love and how it can be expressed. It would be interesting to follow the album’s path of self discovery in one of your podcasts.
Cat is so cute! The lyrics are literally about yourself trying for the other person when you're in love. It's a song where you realize that you lost yourself. And realize this is fake love. So in the end, I'm saying that loving yourself and finding myself is real love.
There is sooo much going on in this video: The song fake love is part of the love yourself series, this is the part where love falls apart because you are not yourself anymore (love yourself tear) which will lead to the realisation that you need to love yourself first (love yourself answer) Then there is the music video which tells part of the storyline, each room has to do with the members story and trauma in that universe. Then there is the save me - I'm fine sign which are 2 songs that follow each other in terms of message. Then there is also the choreography, which is illustrating the saying see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil. Welcome to BTS and ARMY !
This is one of their masterpiece songs that is the title track on one of their overall best albums, Love Yourself Tear. They use imagery and choreography of being puppets and marionettes, the live versions at award shows really lean into it with hmmm tied up like puppets in a few. They really tapped into deeply resonating feelings of fake love and they portray many versions of it and the idea of the fake masks we wear for others. There is another version that is a longer MV and a “rock”version of it the “extended Fake Love” which ties in much more with the hooded figures and the BU. The prequel to this is the Mv and song Singularity FYI a solo V song that is Neo Soul and has similar imagery and lyrics that tie in. RM wrote Singularity for V right after waking up from minor surgery in just under an hour. It’s one of their deeper songs.
Yes, their catalog of music is just awesome in that there’s many different types of songs. And their lyrics and mv have meanings on top of meanings. It provides a fun dive. Btw they do a lot of green screen so those great affects like the explosion into the room with Jin, that was real.
Fake Love is a good example of song where you think you know what it’s about based on song title, but when reading the lyrics, you realize it’s way deeper than it seems. I remember long time ago enjoying the song first, thinking it’s just an angsty love song (it’s still is, but not exactly about romantic love), but when I read the lyrics, my mind blown. I realize it’s really saying, you change yourself to what you think others or significant other to what you think they like or do like, so you’re hiding yourself, how you feel, and who you really are. When you pretend and be molded by what you think they love/like, then you lose yourself and you kind of forget who you are. When you don’t know yourself and don’t love/accept yourself, your relationship with someone is fake. It’s fake love, not real because you hid yourself/true you to be loved or accepted by others. So you were on the right path. BTS songs are always like that, a lot of times the title of the song is not what you think he song is about.
Spring Day and Blood Sweat and Tears you should definitely do. Those songs have such meaningful mvs, full of symbolisms. Would love to hear your discussions on them. Please watch the explanation videos too, you will appreciate the videos more. Love your work!
They released a great Behind The Scenes video on the making of this music video that I think you guys would be really interested in. You guys now need to watch "Blood, Sweat and Tears" by BTS next. It's cinematically so beautiful and has tons of symbolism and hidden messages and meaning within it. Plus, it's an amazing song. It will blow your mind!
would love to see you guys have a podcast ep about the BU !!! that would be very interesting, because the whole reason I got into bts was because I saw people talking about a storyline on blood sweat and tears mv and bam I was intrigued by the BU
Your interpretation is so interesting and enriching. As you said, I believe viewers' interpretrations are as valid and part of the beauty of a piece of art as the author's intentions. The beauty of art is that it brings out a genuine feeling within us, whether it fits the author's initial intentions or not (Of course if one's interpretation becomes completely direspectful towards the artist's intentions because it doesn't take context into consideration -let's say when the interpretration becomes political or controversial - a discussion is worth having). All of this to say that I love your genuine reactions to these MVs. Personally, I thought they were talking about the persona they/we put on to please others, how it comes from a genuine place of loving people, but it ultimately becomes a pretense and thus, a fake love towards others. When I first heard it, I projected that they must have been talking about the relationship they have with their fans, where they still have to hide all the bad things although at the same time, they genuinely love their fans. How this relationship is still ambiguous because it necessarily comes with a certain degree of distance. But I heard RM say that Fake Love described the relationship one has with oneself, I found it very touching and relatable.
Today is actually the 4 year anniversary of Fake Love and the Love Yourself: Tear album. Fun fact about this music video there is little to no special effects. All of the stunts were done by the members themselves. If you have the time you can watch the shooting sketch of the music video.
Another great reaction! I suspected you both would be very interested in "Fake Love" because of how different in tone it is to other songs you've reacted to. As others have said, the rooms each member is stuck in corresponds to their BU storylines (RM and mirrors, J-Hope and the candy, Suga and fire, etc), but I like that you enjoyed the effects and look of the video along with the lyrics. Much needed mentions of mental health and male stereotypes, which I think BTS always tries to depict in their music and hits close for them. Recommendations: "Outro: Tear" for an emotional rapline song, "Not Today" for an amazing visual video and song.
Liked the review. This is an emotional song... in the hallway with V towards the end with all the cellphones going off at the end of the hallway the wall the writing says "Save Me", ( another song on this album) but true to form BTS always connects from one song to another. If the words are flipped around it says "I'm Fine", another song on this album. I love this kind of stuff. Don't forget the Esmeraldo flower (not a real flower) that Jin is protecting at the beginning which shows up later with JK at the end in the waterfall scene as it flutters up from the ashes. The flower shows up constantly in their videos as a symbol for "the truth that couldn't be told". It is in a lot of BTS videos. Every color, every item, every person has value and carries a story, nothing is wasted... keeps ARMY thinking but also using their creative side just like the writers of the songs. You probably already know this but there is a storyline for each of these scenes that they created and it is gut-wrenching... emotionally because ARMY can identify with the emotions especially if they lived it. No BTS is singing our language.
Be sure to watch their behind the scenes making of Fake Love .... shows how detailed their original sets are... shows haters how serious they are about producing unique songs/MV's .... fire is real. ... water is real ... hundreds of snickers are real... etc. Also, many of the scenes harken back to parts of the BTS Universe backstory such as J-hope's Snickers and Carnival paraphernalia goes back to how his "character" was abandoned by his Mom....
I just found your reactions today and I am really enjoying them! One of my favorite MV's is Blood Sweat & Tears. Also Agust D song Agust D. My younger 2 love to watch Suga & JHope (Sope) Otsukare while homeschooling! And 00:00 is my favorite song when my anxiety and depression are getting the better of me 💜
Wow you guys are basically spot on but like you said, it’s open to everyone’s personal interpretation. Music can pull you in depending on what you’re going thru or have been going thru at the moment and it’s beautiful. I really believe music speaks to you and that’s why I love these guys and their team so much. They put in a lot of work into what they do. I really wish you did a long video of this one and watch the lyrics breakdown and MV explained. Would love to hear more of your thoughts. They also have a behind the scenes as well and you’ll be mind blown with what’s actually real and used in this one.
If you’re interested in Carl Gustav Jung’s analytical psychology, check out their songs below - BTS map of the soul : Persona - BTS map of the soul : Shadow - BTS map of the soul : Ego
This song is part of BTS BU (bangtan universe) which is a fictional storyline that runs through the music videos, it has a webtoon, notes, etc. In the video are a lot of easter eggs to help figure out the puzzle that is the storyline.
I do enjoy your BTS reactions! I love that you do a bit of research ahead. There is so much in this MV from the music, to lyrics, to all the visuals and color scheme. I would recommend alternating between Rise of Bangtan, (there are 21 of them plus deleted scenes and bonus content) and MV’s that correspond to the episodes? Or if you want to delve into the BU, you can start with I Need You… whatever you guys decide, you really can’t go wrong. I’m in my 50’s and I love their music!
Definitely react to Blood, Sweet & Tears next! It was one of the songs that catapulted their international fame to a next level. Up unto that point they were still very much inside the Kpop bubble. Blood, Sweat & Tears (album: Wings) was when they really started gaining fans and attention internationally from outside of the existing Kpop niche. At the time literally nobody in Kpop had something like it. They stood out so much from the rest. Now many people copied that dramatic extravaganza, from the song, MV, the short films to the concept and everything. But at the time BTS was unparalleled and they set the standard that many in Kpop follow since.
These guys touch all genres. You will find simple poppy songs, bluesy music, hip hop, contemporary, even some songs that could be called rock. If you want to get into the BU, bangtan Universe, then start with "I need you" and "Run". There are back stories for all of they guys. BTW, they don't do much cgi and I understand the dropping floor, fire and water scenes for this MV were not cgi.
yes SUGA did say this song is much darker than their usual stuff. It's primarily written by RM. RM on Fake Love, "We're saying that if you're not true to yourself, your love won't last forever. The love could be person to person, it could be between me and myself," he explained. He then joked, "It's kinda deep." Also if you noticed the choreo in the chorus where they drop their arms / bodies, it resembles the marionette doll as they sing about being someone's "doll".
Chocolate bars underneath JHope are there with a reason which connect to their BU story. BigHit never puts anything just randomly. All background props and their choreos are carefully created and put together serving some purposes hsve meanings.
Even the dropping floor is a practical effect. 🤯 There is a behind the scenes which I think you would both enjoy. And yes I agree that you guys nailed part of it. There are also underlying themes of fame and addiction. The adoration of fans isn't "real", because we can't ever truly know who they are. They also touch on changing who they are to be loved. Perception vs. reality. I think that aligns with your ideas on how men are "supposed" to have their emotions. It also can be how you love yourself or perceive who you are. The addiction part, food and social media being a substitute for real love, a way to avoid being in the real world. That's as cryptic as I can be without going into the BU that others have mentioned. It is incredibly deep and I think it touches all of us in different ways which is just amazing. I can't wait for you to see Blood, Sweat and Tears. Really enjoying your journeys. It's so nice to have someone using references that I get (I'm old🤣🤣🤣) 😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
in 2018, the first time this song dropped, i saw that line, "i wish love was perfect as love itself," and i still ponder on it up to this day. it's such a potent line, it's mind-blowing. i believe love is one of the most difficult terms to describe because nothing is perfect but love seems like it's such a perfect concept. that line is such a haunting wishful thinking... and this "wish" came in a song about "fake love." isn't it appropriate that wishing for a perfect love almost equates to a fake one?
Loved your reaction!!! This song and music video is amazing!!! The water, fire, carnival stuff, lantern, flower, and snickers are all part of the BU fictional storyline. I won’t spoil anything but each member is recalling or having a memory of a past trauma. The the love yourself album also have a story behind them and connect to tell a story through 3 albums. (LY: Her, LY: Tear, and LY: Answer)… LY: Her is pretty much about the feelings when you first all in love. Feels like destiny and in the stars… LY: Tear is about how the relationship starts to feel off and not right…they start to realize they have been change important parts and/or hiding parts of themselves for the partner (“become their doll”) …ultimately the relationship could fall apart. Finally in LY: Answer they figure out what was the problem and realize they have to love themselves first before you can fully love someone else. Keep in mind you are allowed to have your own thoughts and interpretations of their music.
Fun fact: the mirror in front of V says Save Me but if you flip it, it says I’m Fine. Which are two of BTS songs which connect to one another which is really cool! I encourage you guys to react to them sometime.
Yes, watch Save me first then I'm fine...pls do a reaction video 🙏💜
...and, Kyle, in relation to what you said about pretending to be fine when you're not, the save me as an internal feeling while simultaneously presenting I'm fine as an external behavior rings true in this song.
@@donitapolk9413 great way of putting it
G DRAGON THE KING ,
I would say watch Save me MV
Then find save me and I'm fine live and watch. Awesome stuff!
Agree 100%
the impact this mv had in the whole kpop industry back in 2018 is no joke
And when BTS performed this in billboard for the first time, everyone were shookt...😆
Yes, this one runs deep, it is part of the BU, but it also stands on its own. A lot of the visuals are symbolism related to the BU (Bangtan Universe- which is a complicated, underlying, fictional storyline that threads through some of their videos, webtoon, short stories, and short films).
And don’t forget about the video game and notes! 😁💜

Omg yes.. I'm debating if they should watch the orchestra ver. first before the MV..
Firstly everything you see isn't CGI and that includes the water and fire.

ooooooh that's cool. Didn't know there was one.

It's been a while since I listened to this song, but man, it still hits hard 💜
This mv in particular reflects a lot of their characters stories in the BU, which contains connections with the butterfly effect and time travel (the storyline runs throughout a lot of their music videos, there's even a webtoon of it you guys could check out). The rooms each member is "trapped" in hints a lot towards some characteristics related to the characters they portray, so without giving too much away here's the connections I can count of of the top of my head:
RM's room kind of looks like a trailer, which ties in with his character's living conditions; Suga's room contains a piano and fire which is a visual associated to him many times throughout the mvs that follow the BU, his story is also tied with Jungkook's which we cant really see much of it here but their stories affect one another directly; V's room has a lot of cellphones which ties back to a scene from another music video where he calls RM for help; Jimin and J-Hope's stories are also connected but individually Jimin is often related with water and drowning and J-Hope is related with the the chocolate bars, childhood and narcolepsy; Jin, who in fact is the considered the main character of the story is connected directly with figuring out with the butterfly effect and using time travel in order to save every one's lives.
5:46 the explanation for the candy bar is bittersweet
I second the extended version, I think you would really appreciate the rocking vibe version. I also love the imagery of the choreography for this song with so many references to "hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil" with the hands as well as the "marionette" feel to the choreography referencing how they erase themselves to become a "doll".
Love your reaction and your final comments on this one, thank you for being real. Your perspective is interesting to me. 💜
I think you would like to react to Outro Tear.
Thank you so much!!
omg that siri interruption was funny XD
I liked your commentary on how the lyrics could be commenting on expectations of masculinity, I think fans have also interpreted it as a commentary of the expectation of perfection as a celebrity/idol, especially with the references to modern technology/social media with the hallway full of tablets and phones flashing almost like cameras.
The way the entire song just has the perfect flow is fantastic.
As always, love your reactions! Cant wait to see more💜💜

Will you also be reacting to the behind the scenes for their music videos? BTS works so hard!!!

OMFG I love the cat just chilling on the table XD
I really enjoyed watching your reaction videos to BTS. I remembered when you guys first started, you didn't know who is who. And now you know who suga is, who RM is... and going into the rabbit hole of BTS content.... And everything is your own opinion but still respectful. It's really wonderful! Much love
There is context in the form of 2 (!) storylines.
One is the mentioned BU and starts with "I need U" (even as theoretically the MVs before that could fit the Universe, too)
The other is the one of the "Love Yourself"-albums.
Also: if you wanted to talk more about this video and this topic, I highly recommend the extended version of the video.
I think you got the message pretty well, and I always love how y'all have an in depth disscussion at the end 💜💜
awww just got here and the cat is soooo cute!! I love Stormy!!!
Ah love yourself tear! My first comeback!! 💜🥺💜 so proud. Fake love is not a music video, its a piece of art.
Thank you for your mention of men’s mental health! In society it is sadly still looked down upon and not really mentioned a lot as well.
TW: Mention of death
Fake Love is really special to me.
The water, the fire (though enhanced), and the floor falling away were practical and not CGI.
Oh, I love the new dude in the team. Great addition, he made great points!
Oh would have love if you two talked more about the interpretation of what you thought the song was about and the struggle of "always needing to be strong" because of society. That was really interesting.
fire was made bigger by cgi but there was real fire on set
Another wonderful reaction from you both. Always love to hear your thoughts on the lyrics and analysis. Thank you.
There is sooo much going on in this video:
The song fake love is part of the love yourself series, this is the part where love falls apart because you are not yourself anymore (love yourself tear) which will lead to the realisation that you need to love yourself first (love yourself answer)
Then there is the music video which tells part of the storyline, each room has to do with the members story and trauma in that universe.
Then there is the save me - I'm fine sign which are 2 songs that follow each other in terms of message.
Then there is also the choreography, which is illustrating the saying see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil.
Welcome to BTS and ARMY !
This song added so many fans to this fandom
Every shot of the MV has so many theories
Watching this again makes me realize how wild it was going through all the comeback trailers and teasers and the subsequent drop of this album
You might be interested to know that there is a 'rock version' of Fake Love. I believe it is on spotify.
Knowing the bts universe storyline then seeing this music video hits so much harder
I was waiting for this reaction!! Love watching you guys!
"If someone dumps me-- add more to myself" HAHA MOOD! Same. lol
What a cute Kitty 😍💜
Ah! Someone else noticed!!!! ❤️
@@Beserious795 😊😊

He then joked, "It's kinda deep."
Also if you noticed the choreo in the chorus where they drop their arms / bodies, it resembles the marionette doll as they sing about being someone's "doll".
Into the BU. Now to watch all of the content in order & the BU explanation
Chocolate bars underneath JHope are there with a reason which connect to their BU story. BigHit never puts anything just randomly. All background props and their choreos are carefully created and put together serving some purposes hsve meanings.
I’m so sorry I don’t know your names, but I love how the guy on the right always smiles when Jungkook is on the screen. Good taste!
I'm glad y'all liked it! I used to hate this song, so now that I love it (rightfully) I appreciate your love for it.
The cat loafing on the table is giving me life
Even the dropping floor is a practical effect.
It's so nice to have someone using references that I get (I'm old🤣🤣🤣)
😘💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
it's kinda fitting you dropped this today. it's the 4 year anniversary of the album 'love yourself: tear' and the title track 'fake love'
in 2018, the first time this song dropped, i saw that line, "i wish love was perfect as love itself," and i still ponder on it up to this day. it's such a potent line, it's mind-blowing. i believe love is one of the most difficult terms to describe because nothing is perfect but love seems like it's such a perfect concept. that line is such a haunting wishful thinking... and this "wish" came in a song about "fake love." isn't it appropriate that wishing for a perfect love almost equates to a fake one?
This is real talent.
(LY: Her, LY: Tear, and LY: Answer)…
LY: Her is pretty much about the feelings when you first all in love. Feels like destiny and in the stars…
LY: Tear is about how the relationship starts to feel off and not right…they start to realize they have been change important parts and/or hiding parts of themselves for the partner (“become their doll”) …ultimately the relationship could fall apart.
Finally in LY: Answer they figure out what was the problem and realize they have to love themselves first before you can fully love someone else.
Keep in mind you are allowed to have your own thoughts and interpretations of their music.
