    Don't take this too seriously, its just my opinion.
    Thank you so much for watching. I have once again refused to learn my lesson and have stayed up until 5 am to get this video done. Also, I have disabled midroll ads to compensate for the sponsored segment. I do this on all of my sponsored videos. I don't know if youtube places midrolls anyways so please let me know if you are getting any. Also a Rust vid is coming next week so be on the lookout for that.

    I feel like ratting is the natural reaction to getting bullshitted by Tarkov too many times. You run along your way, and all of a sudden you are dead. You don't know why it happened, you don't know how you could have prevented it, you just dropped dead.
    So naturally, sooner or later, people will want to be the "winner" in such an encounter. In my opinion, the best way to deal with such a thing would be to introduce a kill-cam, so at least you know where the rat was hiding.

      Kind of, but its more about wisening up and knowing what "wins" a fight. What wins a fight is you waiting for someone to run into your sights. You know theres a limited time, and number of players, so waiting for people who have to go past your position to get out is often the best way to get loot out. Its better than spending 20 minutes looting up to get killed by the guy sipping his beer with youtube up on the secondary waiting for footsteps.

    What I love about EFT is there isn't a single victory condition. In a Battle Royale game the only victory condition is to be the last team standing, but in EFT each player in a raid will likely have a different objective and it is quite probable that multiple players can complete their objective in a single raid. This also means there is no single "correct" way to play EFT as different objectives may be easier to accomplish via different playstyles.

    • @hombreg1

      you're right about this, as a solo I play really slow and uses the bush, trees and other cover to my advantage ALWAYS. I didn't even know they call this type of gameplay rat and everyone is disgusted. Well my goal was to play tarkov and simulate realistic military tactics when you're a solo operator and acting like a ghost. Even if I play 40mins in one spot as a sniper and only killed one, I feel victorious coz my goal was completed. People may say I can do that in other games like COD, but COD doesn't have the survival mechanics and covert mechanics. And it doesn't have enough soft coverage to use as a camouflage, and lastly it's doesn't look good hitting an enemy with a rifle and just casually sprints away like nothing happened. I love tarkov's hitbox and all. So yea, you're right about different victory condition. xD
      EDIT : My best experience was killing a 4 man squad around customs smuggler boat, we were all on the hillside I followed them and waited for a chance to headshot one. When I did I move from bushes to bushes, killed another. Until I was cornered near the small wall alongside the road and used the tree's leaves to camouflage myself after that it all got silent for a couple of mins. Everyone was just waiting for a sound cue, little did they know that I was just hiding alongside them. I was just waiting a chance to swing my rifle without making a sound. Until I did got a chance, that was the best!
      2nd best was with an 8 man CHADS. As I was trying to do a quest in reserve I stumbled with an 8 man CHADS running like they own the map. I figured they may had a discord group and tried to queue in together and luckily found themselves on the same server because I don't hear VOIPS from them. Then I followed them moving from bushes to bushes waiting for the perfect timing to disguise myself as one of them. Until I did, then I waited again for the time the group separates from each other. It was a long and scary experience my hands were shaking the whole time, until the group started to move slowly as entering the bunkers. I found myself doing a stack position as 2 members check the corners before moving in, that's when I decide if I should now pull the trigger. As I did pull the trigger I was shaking and crazily got all the gears, only to be killed by a scav on the way to extract. Crazy game!

    I think this honestly shows a very basic problem with tarkov. A huge split in the community. some People want a more sim like experience such as with squad/arma 3 and such. but tarkov itself very clearly is not nearly a sim. Tarkov call itself as such but almost every game mechanic kinda contradicts that especially considering how a lot of people "actually" play tarkov.

    • @itzaleaf405
      @itzaleaf405 11 місяців тому +33

      I think what the devs (and just the aim of the game) is something of a "middle ground" between full on sim or full on arcade.
      On one hand, you don't want it to be like call of duty, apex, titanfall, or similar fast paced arcade games. Stuff like the Inertia update (and or nerf), along with stuff like nerfing the strength skill shows that some.
      Yet at the same time, also don't want it to turn into something like squad, zero hour, or similar simulator style game where you need to take everything insanely slow or your going to die no matter how good you are since that's how the game's designed, and even if you do there's still a chance you could die anyways either due to unforeseen circumstance , unfortunate timing, or something else.
      I will say, I do hope that they manage to get it just right at some point, because I *love* the guns in tarkov... great models, nice and simple animations, and complex interactions (compared to other games anywho). Only issues I have are stuff like the recoil, which I feel honestly should have a more "squad" style to it (the recoil getting worse the longer you keep shooting, making single shot and burst fire the most accurate forms of shooting... instead of how it currently is where if you keep shooting it basically turns into a laser)

Kind of like Stalker which is a huge inspiration to this game, in Stalker you are using garbage half the time but its about building your gear up with each successful mission and having that connection to your gear and character making the thought of losing it more exciting.
      At this point in Tarkov, nothing matters. W into room, spray with meta guns and gear, die and repeat. it's not super engaging to me. no suspense or 'story' just kinda mindless.

      It starts to be an issue when literally every/every other raid the entire lobby is hiding in various random bushes meaning it turns into a game of "Where's Waldo with the 50 cal sniper", but you only get like 4 or 6 seconds at best to spot the *tiny* near unseeable speck of an enemy who's currently lining their sights up with your skull...

      Exactly. I used to soft rat (a wipe ago, I quitted this wipe), then hard rat this wipe (staying in spots for an entire raid), and let me tell you: I wish it wasn't so effective. The thing is that Gear diff is too strong and I lose 90% of regular fights because of it and duos/trios/teams + desync. That's what FIR update + Inertia + Cheaters has done to the game, people play too scared because they can't buy good gear/replace it easily.

      Another thing is armor has become FAR worse compared to what it used to be, and compared to what access you have to it.
      These days you can get ~4 or 5 if your lucky from the traders. Yet a whole level sooner (or hell for some ammo types at level 1) on the traders is ammo that beats that armor. Meaning it's far far less likely to save you compared to what it might have done before. (Another thing is blunt damage for instance)

    I think you're assuming that people have a lot of time in their hands (when it comes to your dopamine rush analogy) to:
    1) Do loot runs;
    2) Take your time making a loadout that's optimal;
    3) Wait the loading screens;
    4) Hopefully survive while going for PVP/Bosses, if you survive, go back to step 3, if not, go back to step 1.
    There's a lot of time lost for a bad raid where there's 20% chance that you get "outplayed" (as most of the time is a gear diff problem for casuals more than skill diff), 10% that it's a cheater and 70% for desync/bugs/loss of framerate, etc so people would rather do low risk/low reward while avoiding, at least, the desync/bugs,etc as you have mentioned, especially if you only have like a couple of hours a day (4 max) to play, and don't want to come out of a session with less rubles, a worst KD than you had, and being in loading screens for 20% of the time, a problem that is not so bad if Tarkov is your job.

    Most of the times I've been ratting, I had a plan on how I was going to actually find and engage contact. Like you said with "good ratting", listen for contact, move in slowly, and engage on your own terms. That being said, there are some legitimate ways to camp rat that can be a fun way to be stupid with stuff you stole from scavs.
    I know scav baiting was heavily nerfed a few updates ago, but being able to bring one guy in tagged and cursed on Factory and use him to funnel scavs into Gate Three was a great time when you could get a group of guys, and it opens an opportunity to actually use voip to talk to PMCs and say "Hey, truce, we're here to mess around but we have five 153s with magnum and nothing to lose, so just run past us," or otherwise negotiate. I've had times where people actually would make deals for safe passage, like "Hey, I'll throw this T-Bag in with some food if I can run past." That on top of the fact that we ended up shredding Tagilla and sometimes blocked the door with scav bodies made it a lot of fun and allowed it to not just be "Hee hee hoo hoo see movement gun go brrr!" Being able to actually think about situations and determine what the plan was instead of just slaughtering everything was way more fun, and if you die? Congrats! You can now be scav bait since your job is to run in with a hatchet anyway, so a bunch of rats with no gear fear could meme around all day.
    Scav baiting was also fun because it gave an opportunity to get in the Official Tarkov Discord and chat with a bunch of guys. Part of what I enjoyed in Tarkov was being able to hop in with some dudes I've never met before and have conversations about the latest moves by Activision, the pros and cons of different kinds of cars, and sometimes just random hobbies. One of the biggest issues Tarkov is running into is that running around killing is getting boring, so bringing in an element that's constantly changing and talking with some random buds you fumbled upon was a way to toss things up. Sure, there were guys who said "Man, this is boring," and fair enough, but when you pull a G0at and give yourself ways to start saying "Hey buddy," things start to become a lot more fun.
    This may also come from my DnD background and the fact that a ton of DnD sessions have at least a quarter of the time spent shooting the shit and hanging out with the buds. In DnD as well, you can go for the murderhobo playstyle and kill everything in front of you, or you can meet a bunch of new people who you have a great time hanging out with for that session. Just killing things can end up being a grind, but killing things while discussing random topics like whether or not the 40k Orks have met their victory condition brings a bit more variety and makes the game more fun.

    I couldn't agree more with you. If I wanted to shift w the whole time I'd go play cod. If I wanted to rat in a bush for 40 minutes... I'd probably shoot myself, it's so freaking boring. This slow, tactical approach to fights is the best part of Tarkov.
    The most fun raid I've had was on woods. I was going up the mountain with my friend, to do some sniping (popping heads from 600 meters away is also a lot of fun. Probably because it actually requires some skill to do it consistently). 3 dudes were already there, I was the only one left standing. Went back a bit to heal, and just as I was about to go loot, a five man rolls up. At one point I was running alongside them lol.
    I started hunting them. I've spent the rest of the raid sneaking around the mountain. Flanking. Making some noise to fake them out, retreating, creeping up from another angle. I must've gone up and down that mountain at least 20 times. They didn't know what to do, the panicked spraying random bushes, when I once again attacked from a different lane... I felt like the freaking Predator, picking them off, one by one. I was a bit too slow, and the last one just barely got away. Still, my heart was pounding the whole time.

Ran from the underground to the Mira Avenue extract while stopping to loot exactly one single bag. There was already a rat camping the extract. I think bad ratting has a place though, especially for those not good enough. Though in saying this I don't think it should be a permanent playstyle. It is for those people who have had it bad, are low on cash and supply, and need to fund. Sure, tactical ratting is more FUN, but in a game so punishing, some people need that extra edge.

  • @ghost01477

    Number one (and i guess two, but they go hand in hand) reason to rat in my personal experience isn't for pvp but to avoid getting killed out of spawn in the first 30sec or less after 'waiting for players' for double the amount of matchmaking + loading time, and then after that segment is over, it's to make completing certain quests much easier to get done as a solo. Admittedly though, this does lead to the gameplay and quest farming to become boring rather quickly...
    But i sure do hate losing a loadout in the first 30sec from the enemy's first shot that went heat seaking right into my eye socket.

    Tactical ratting pretty much sums up what I do for 4 whole wipes. Never successful enough to be covered in meta gear, so most of the time I am sneaking around clutching hard on my 74/ump/akm, running around as if there's someone watching me all the time. Going slow and listen had won me plenty of fights, a few in resort even. If things go south and I didn't get head eyes right way, at least my stealth would give me enough time to gauge the situation and hide or run away.

I'm tired of playing like: I die in the first minute after a headshot when I can't see/dsync/somehow I shoot plastic balls where others just shoot my way. And I can't change it, because I'm afraid of dying 10 times in an hour and I don't play like typical chads 24/7. In addition, I play solo, and I only meet groups with meta gear. The combat just feels like a coin toss, yeah you can increase your chances for sure but like its not who is smarter/faster/more tactical/knows the map down to a pixel its who abuses the game better so traditional pvp gets boring. Especially,situations like when you were rotating alongside your opponent for ten minutes and you just ended up not engaging at all because if you expose yourself for 0.3 seconds u r dead reserve pvp in a nutshell btw. On the other hand then i rat naked,kedr,gshsz, no rig and kill a duo with thermals i feel like a god its orgasmic, because obviously i should have been dead but somehow i won the unwinnable. The only time it is a good feeling to kill someone while camping is when you actually calculated what they are going to do next. Once i killed a dude in the office area between goshan and oli, but he had a teammate. Instead of fighting him face-to-face where i would've had a chance of dying i ran upstairs to the techlight escalator, went down and got behind him and camped the doors which would've lead to that office area. My plan was that he will eventually try to drop his mate's stuff if he didnt hear me anymore, and the best place for that is the little janitor room next to the doors. Guess what, he did just that, so i just had to shot him in the back of his head, while i was sitting in the corner next to the door he came out.
    I think in such a situation it is justified as you use your map knowledge and situation awereness to outsmart your enemy, who already knew he was in a combat situation.
    This is actually one of the reasons i dont like to drop my mate's stuff, and i also dont want them to care about my gear.

In game you get to choose whether to detect enemies around you in a specific radius signaling you using a red triangle which when is red enemy is within your radius and if it starts blinking and making noise it means the enemy is hella close to you, the other one is an actual wall hack for a few seconds if theres an enemy who's temperature is above the red line you can see these enemies through walls in a limited radius as well. Ratting is hella impossible unless youre far away with a full blown weapon and good grade bullets.

    Idk about you guys but I prefer not to die and actually practice some (maybe basic) actual things that would prove useful in my soon to be (two years for now) military career (we have to enlist but I will gladly be joining them once school’s done)
    I’ve heard things individually from guys that already have been through their military duty’s that some laid down in a bush for 4 days straight to pull of some kind of sting OP or border patrol.
    Here in tarkov you are forced to move though the entire map in about 30 minutes which kinda kills the idea of pulling this off and forced us to move (even though and in most times I brought an assault rifle in I went to extreme CQB and stayed alive to tell the tale (3-4.smtn KD)
    (Embrace bordom, it will help you irl . Solo life)
    IDK TIMER TO SHORT
    Nice video
    And I always try to be not so scummy because it’s still a game and people are still people behind the screen
    7:54 and yes it keeps me coming back from time to time and also loot run like crazy when I’m too tired of chilling

      I don't get how people can 2nd monitor even when sitting in a bush for 20-30 minutes. I'm always on full alert listening to every sound and mapping out a sequence of events so I know what to expect when I feel like I have enough info and the heat has died down enough to make my way through the map.

      My comment was about how you were talking about real life stakeout style marathon bush camping (4 friggin days) and yet people in this game can't handle 20-30 minutes of holding position and being alert without getting bored/distracted.

      @@jamesproimos sorry it came that way , apparently I’m build Different ( idk Honestly My brain is way sharper when I’m bored, it can be kinda cozy sometimes , knowing that you won’t face the BS like desync etc, it Levels the playing field(especially with higher ping like me at 70ms, it is mostly fine but in very close cqb sometimes those fractions of a second add up and get me killed). And for me it’s a show of skill and marksmanship. Ranging the distance beforehand waiting for the right time, Holding my breath and taking the shot.

    I have a mixed opinion of people's hot takes regarding bush camping, or really just passive playstyles. I tend to play infrequently with a buddy of mine, and we can have a lot of fun just picking up random quests and "literally camping" on some of the maps. By this I mean we bring some food and some water, have an objective in mind, and slow roll our way through a map, if we need to take a break because the kitchen is on fire, or because the dog desperately needs to go out, we hunker down in a good spot and do so.
    I have to agree that yes, in general, laying in a bush for 30 minutes or something would be very boring. But it depends on what your goal is, and why you are in that particular bush. If you are laying there because you are motivated by fear of your surroundings, sure, then the game is likely not going to be that interesting. But if you are there because you are observing, tracking or hunting someone or an area... then it can be a lot more interesting.
    What a slower, more methodical playstyle has taught me, is a very healthy respect for the kind of trouble that can be lurking in areas of the map that I often see other players "hard W key" through. I have had many games where multiple teams of players manage to walk within 5 or 10 feet of me without ever realizing I was there, and whether or not I engage them depends a lot on what my goal is in that moment. Do I have 2 quest objectives in my pockets and all I need is to GTFO, well I am likely not engaging, do I want more pockets to loot or ammunition from the guns they are using... well sucks to be them.
    It's also a little weird, but a slower playstyle has taught me to appreciate timing a bit more as well. Sometimes it's not the best situation to be "first" into a valuable loot zone, sometimes it's nice to have someone else hoover up that loot and deliver it in on nice searchable package. I think the fundamental questions are "why are we in the bush?", and "how often do we get to play?". Because if I only have 45 minutes to play that day, I am not necessarily going to want to sprint through a single map, get out in 10 minutes and rush off to do another task like it's a job. I might take my time and just enjoy a single map through to the end, and play cleanup where most of the players are already gone.

    IMO. the best way you can play, is by trying to get as much disparity as you can between risk and reward. i think i'd personally draw the line at extract camping, but thats with the caveat of it being a dedicated playstyle. if you're sitting outside extract waiting to see if theres any activity before you leave then suddenly there is? merc him.

    Camp ratting, hunting while hiding in a blind
    Shift W, hunting while running through the wood hoping you don't end up face to face with a bear while scaring most of the prey away.
    Tactical ratting, hunting while tracking your target, getting to know it and setting up the perfect kill shot.
    Track hunting is the most fulfilling because it requires a wider range of skills and when you pull it off you know it's because of YOUR ability and not RNG or some random bullshit.

    The main reason why I rat is because of the fucking strap-on tank armor this game has. Like whenever I get into an engagement I'd never expect my first shot to kill or cripple my oppenent so having more time to get more shots in is great.
