Yi was not a good person, he'd be the first to tell you that. But when I rushed into the village to aid the apemen and this song hit, I felt like a god damn hero.
The way I see it is that he saw it as an opprotunity to at least give back even a little for what he did that led to shennong, shuanshuan, and the others being stuck there. Especially for Shuanshuan's parents being killed.
He wasn't just good, he was great! Caring only about his mission, gaining power by himself, for himself, in order to fulfill it. And only on occasion, from time to time, on a whim did he endeavor to help some of those around him. Now THAT's my idea of a great main character of a story. Thank you Red Candle Games!
Not all heroes start as good people. Not all heroes stay good people. But in that moment, when everything comes together- When you make the choice to fight a battle that isn't yours for people you've come to love, what else can you call it? You don't have to be a good person to be a hero. You just have to have the will to do good.
Man this song really captures it too. Yi really keeps up the distant and stoic personality even when he helps them but as soon as the game gave me the choice I was like "NO WAY am I letting the village get destroyed and made a beeline there and this really sells the heroic vibe. I really like story beats like this tbh, when a character who isn't even a squeaky clean hero goes out of their way to do something genuinely heroic just because it's the right thing to do, it's just a powerful thing. Whatever his motives or thoughts in that moment, Yi WAS a hero for going back to save them even though it could interfere with his plans.
This is when Yi finally begins changing from a terrifying, bloodthirsty hypocrite into a somewhat decent person. When he finally does something heroic. Such a good character.
You know, this is Yi's theme. I love that about this song. It only comes on when he's saving people, doing something genuinely heroic. What I'm trying to say is that it feels like the game is trying to assert that, despite everything, these moments are who he truly is. These moments are when he is his purest and most honest self, fighting with everything he has to protect stranger and friend alike simply because they don't deserve what would happen if he didn't. Edit: So, I was misinformed. This isn't Yi's theme. But my point still stands: The impression I always got from this song was that it was Yi declaring, "This is who I am." And I think that's fucking awesome.
i love this banger for many reason the feelings about being a hero even if u were a bad guy, but this part 0:46 when i was against the miniboss its was timed with the song liket the drums the 4 "DUM" ok? it went like "DUM" *Parry sfx* *DUM *water flow talisman dash *DUM*azure bow (cloud piercer) "DUM" *and the talisman explosion*

Isn’t it “The Path for Us All”? I see your point just wanted to add.
@@thegongoolzler2677 Yeah, I was going to update my comment and mention that because I was misinformed, and I thought I did, but apparently I forgot.
@@thegongoolzler2677 This is the same motif as The Path For Us All. This IS Yi's theme, just another rendition of it.
