Great Video! The Volume difference is because the 2 main Outputs on the Montage are "Balanced"...meaning the electrical signal is stronger/grounded/better separated & insulated i.e. (similar to a TRRS 1/4in cable OR XLR) Blessings, BMo
So I currently own a yamaha MX88 and I absolutely love it. My next keyboard will be the MODX8 for its within my price range it's got the same sound as montage. Also I don't do a whole lot of layers and mixing so too only have 4 layers at my fingertips is good enough for me. Chances are I won't use layers 5-8 all that much anyway. Plus being a musician that travels MODX8 is the best choice for me
This was a good review! I remember when the MoXF8 came out and saw these same comparisons. The S6 Grand patch is good but it’s better on the Motif XF8.
I think soundwise the Motif XF is still an overall better board. Still sounds great. Got flash memory, sequencer and sampling. I know of a few people with Montages and Modx who wish they had never sold their XF and can't buy another one cause they're hard to find with reasonable prices on the used market.
Would you recommend the Modx to a beginner transitioning to intermediate? I have a p125 and want to upgrade but don’t feel like I have the skills to justify the upgrade. I also only play for fun. What do you think?
If you think you don't have the skills to justify the upgrade yet then you can get a psr sx900. But if you have the money then go ahead and thet the MoDx 8 plus
For the volume you should check the basic output level in the utilities menue! I guess that will solve your problem. I had the same issue with the MOTIF XF, so I know what you mean. I like the more analog sound of the MODX, and for some performances I even add a bit noise from the FX sample section or the filters. No real instrument is without any imperfection. I just began to publish the results of my in-depth studies on the MODX sound capabilities, available on Soundmondo. Sound snippets can be listened to at my YT channel, for example here: ua-cam.com/video/_-5xjVSdEP4/v-deo.html
Hi, I read your comments on another post concerning tuning problems. You mentioned that you sent it for repair and they changed out the mod/tune assembly. Did the repair last?
I played the MODX 6 in a music store, it was amazing, didn't have much time to sit with it though. I do want to ask you though, a lot of people didn't like the fact that it's a but difficult to build your own synth sounds (uses FMX instead of traditional VA), do you think it's capable of creating those delicious synth sounds? I ask this because I know a lot of gospel musicians have two boards, a Roland up top and a Yamaha below, synth/aux at the top and piano/Rhodes at the bottom. I want to be confident that I can pull it off with just one keyboard and and a MIDI controller up top but I don't want to feel "left out". 😅 I'm still chasing after "J-Pop Brass" or "Hugo Bass" but that's all Roland not Yamaha. What do you think? Sorry for the long post, you know how musicians get giddy with keyboards and gear.
Wanted something different, kinda fell in love with the new fantom after playing in numerous times in guitar center, it's a awesome board , have u played one ?
@@darrickkeels6387 it's a huge learning curve to really unleash the board but the factory sounds are not better than the montage but u definitely can tweak them and always expand the sounds
I use a MODX-8 live. I'm in a cover band. I thought the four sliders-only was a limitation but it isn't. I use two to four single parts for most songs: a piano, a horn section, an electric piano, an organ. The MODX-8 organs are amazing. I have a baby B3 and looked at the SK1 and other products but they are similar or inferior. I sometimes use a Lester K rotary pedal, but for the most part the simulation through the keyboard is more than sufficient. The piano presets suck. All of them. They sound thin and digital. They can be shaped into something, but the Korg SV2 destroys all MODX-8 pianos. I have two Rhode's, a stage and a case. The RD Gallery in the MODX-8 is horrible. That said, blending soft R&B with vibes and Marimba makes an electric piano tone that competes with anything. Won't win, but can hold it's own. The synth tones are fantastic, the drum kits are amazing. Playing outdoors since October 2020 with the MODX she only had one issue, last night. During the end of uptown funk she went silent and the touchscreen went unresponsive. The air had condensation and the board was wet. It totally screwed the song. I turned it off and turned it back on and it was fine but that was a serious letdown. On balance, however, since October 2020 it's played over 1,000 songs without a glitch.
It definitely was a good board to me a lot of the sounds sounded a bit thin compared to the bigger brother but that's due to converters I've heard, moving on to the new fantom was a huge jump for me and I am a lot happier with it
Volume is different because it has different output preamp. The two boards don't sound the same also because of the preamp. Also here there is no touch affect
Agreed the sliders and the keybed are not on point like the higher end boards I also own an XS 8 motif and it is definitely a big difference not to say that the keybed is bad on the modx and it seems that the filters maybe different as well
For the sliders I think it depends on the musician me personally 4 sliders and good enough for me I currently own a MX88 and MX61 and I love the hell out of those keyboards. MODX8 does have a 8 layers but you can only get to 4 of them at a time, but for how I play that works just fine. Chances of me using all 8 layers are pretty low. Like I said it depends on the musician and how that person plays
I have a MOXF8. I cannot bring myself to get a MODX, because as someone who plays worship music, I need those 8 sliders. And this will stop me from buying the MODX. I may look at the Fantom 0
@@reggieblessedhandz1293 this is what annoys me about the MOXF8 - lack of sliders. I'm looking for a keyboard with sliders - it's a shame that MODX has only 4
I heard about that. I hear it's the same case with the montage too. Certain sounds use a certain amount of parts so depending on what particular sounds you use, you might can only layer 4. The pick other stuff and get away with 5 or 6 layers.
This keyboard only weights 30lbs ,I apologize for the error
This was a helpful assessment from our perspective. Thanks for sharing

Hey ! Could we edit and make the thin piano sounds on this board sound like Keyscape's piano.......if you could do a tutorial it'll be really helpful.
With any keyboard especially the newer ones u can completely edit any patches to get the sound u want 100%
