Very interesting work. As a Clinical Psychologist and an Artist, I will suggest that anyone can experience an ‘oceanic feeling’ through transformational creative work. I have issues with the psychoanalytic reductionist view of this psychic/ spiritual state. I think that ‘new age’ philosophy incorporate ‘oceanic feeling’ in a much more positive and productive way. On a personal level, the pandemic has enabled me to focus on my creative work, and has if anything, increased my awe and respect for the divine and mystical. I first learned about this term as a pre teen reading the work of the psychoanalyst Phyllis Greenacre. The concept has become the basis of my Expressive Art Therapy practice over the past 32 years. To aid clients to move into the oceanic realm using hypnosis, and then expressing what they learn through integrative expressive art experiences.
great. The links between convenional artistic creation, collective political action, trauma and healing and ecology are beautifully made
