This is what I love about Japanese car culture. They are sensible when it comes to modifications, they can enjoy the car without doing too much to it. In Europe and USA it's like everybody wants 1000hp from their car, even though the car will rarely be used on track.
Yeah, even basic mods just to improve the car's power is more than enough to some. Driving it on the track and trying to achieve the best time possible is more than enough of a pleasure. Even if I have just merely an R32 GTS or a base model S13, I'd still be challenging myself to achieve the best time possible on a track on weekends. Nothing feels like challenging yourself.
In the US, it's mostly about drag cars with huge single turbos which are awful for these tracks due to lag but amazing for the 1/4 mile. These cars in JP are tuned for the track or touge.
So nostalgic! Crazy how even in Japan, the trend in interest for older cars is also rising. Maybe if the new cars were just as exciting as the old cars were, we wouldn't keep going back to the old cars. People are still refining FD3S, AP1/2, CT9A, and even AE86 these days! It's amazing that new parts are still coming out for cars that have stopped production for more than a decade already.
Anyone can tell the love for cars by just watching the smiles on their faces driving these wonderful machines on the track, not hard but casually. This is what makes us car enthusiasts, understanding what they feel and then respecting the cars and their owners! Thank you CarPrime for the best videos on some of my beloved machines on the planet.
Again guys, thank you so much for the translation. I'm from Argentina so the only way to enjoy all this awesome cars and listen to Dorikin is by UA-cam. Cheers!!

@@MrFlyingmachine they are just driving easy, would be useless for that particular video. Maybe would be much better having good audio to ear the engine sound.
Thanks so much for this video! It's great seeing high quality content of the R32, R33 and R34 GTRs and how amazing they are as machines. The commentary from both drivers as they took them around the track and back in the pit about the differences between them was fantastic.
It's funny when Keiichi was driving the 33 and mentioned that at that time he was ridiculed for driving it coz of the size. But hey now in this present moment every thing is Ginormous! Lmfao! specially 2drs & sedans from U.S. from such a big body they are also obliged to put much larger wheels, and also the tires! Lol! tires aint cheap 😅
Are there carprime stickers or tshirts for sale? I really enjoy this channel due to Tsuchiya giving a little history lesson in each video of his personal life! Very refreshing channel!
Excellent video. Long time fan of Best Motoring International, very happy I stumbled across this channel. And very happy I bought and imported an R32 GTR when I did! Great car.
Wish I was old enough to buy one when they were affordable but I did manage to just get a ‘93 GTS-T with only 32K kilometers , they are so far ahead of their time, awesome cars!
Interesting thing about Matsuda is that he won his first Super Formula (Formula Nippon at the time) title without a single win that year according to the Gran Turismo Sport.
"it's got a nice hellaflush" LMFAO i cracked up when i read that. hellaflush is a scene in american car culture, there are various different groups and subgroups. i believe the proper word is "fitment" so the sentence would read "it's got a nice fitment" which would read like a complete sentence
Get a Gtst man , I just got an r32 Type M with 20k miles for around 20k , those come with an RB20DET and the 33 Gtst come with RB25DET, they’re basically just Rwd GTR’s, I absolutely love my car 🖤 If you really wanted to you could just invest in an RB26, Nissan started producing brand new blocks again because of demand
I LOVE this vintage videos with Mr. Tsuchiya. Didnt he race with a sierra cosworth? Would be great for european fans rememeber that days with a wonderfull car like that, worthy rival of jdm Sports Cars!
The GTR 34 looks like an authentic ZTune GTR with that aerodynamic front body and quarterpanels, NISMO intercooler, bonnet and rims, but it's just a GTR with last edition RB engine. The authentic ZTune has bored up RB26 also 2.8L and its called Z2 RB26 and only 20 cars built
Regarding 38:55, I think this is the unfortunate byproduct of the "forbidden fruit" appeal that cars such as the Nissan Skyline GT-R have. Since it only sold in relatively small numbers and was a JDM exclusive, the "GT-R exodus" was bound to happen. That said, I do wish less Skyline GT-Rs find their way stateside. As for 51:30, I read somewhere that the R34 GT-R production car was supposed to eschew the RB26 for a compact twin-turbo V6 engine, until that plan was halted because Nissan couldn't find the right engine/parts in their catalogue to develop for the platform. So, they stuck with the RB until 2002. In a way, the "ultimate" GT500 R34 GT-R that won the 2003 Super GT championship was a glimpse into what could have been a more competitive GT racing machine from the outset at the turn of the millennium.
38:55 As an European - me neither. Let's face it, it's mostly fault of the US that these cars got so valuable in recent years, it's all their fault. It's all becuase of their lust and desire for these "forbidden fruits" of some sort. You never got it sold in the US? Cool, it should stay that way. Now they cost way more than they should, even cars like the S-chassis, AE86's and others got insanely pricey. It's all because of Americans I swear...
US likes to ruin everything that they touch tho. They have the best car market on the planet, but no they HAD to ruin the only thing they did not have... Now a 34 is a rich man's car, and even the 32 or the 33 are getting closer to what they used to cost when they were new ! 34 should cost around 70 000 euros for a standard model and not much more. But well now it's so valuable that it becomes scary to drive, what a damn shame. As always THANKS AMERICA !
I kick myself everyday for not buying the R33 of my dreams about 10-12 years ago. Now, the pricing in Australia is just ludicrous for anything half decent. S14's and S15's alike are just as expensive. I really wish Nissan would bring back these beautiful cars for the next generation (minus the modern need for hybrid or electric). In the meantime, I'm looking at an 86.
Love the 34GTR such an amazing machine! Looks tough and drives so nice with minimal mods. My GTT surprises me how nice it handles too considering it’s age. What was the v6 turbo engine in the 2003 34? VQ30 or 38?
The weakest part in RB26 is oil pump drive. Wider drive doesn't fix it. The real problem is high tolerance gap of the drive causes it to shatter on Rev bounce off Rev limits or similar sudden speed reversals of the engine speed. Solution is to machine tighter oil pump drive.
I hope Renault and Volkswagen start making CHEAP FR i4 primitive sports cars. Stick shift, hand brake, LSD, skinny tyres, no VSC, no torque vectoring, no auto blip. Toyota and Subaru started it in 2012 with 86/BRZ
I disagree that these cars shouldn't be brought overseas, they should continue but it is getting really dumb at how much these old cars are getting, looked at a silvia's last night that were going for around $10,000-$60,000 which is outrageous for a FR i4 car. They need to start making these cheap FR cars again to slide around in and take to tracks.
Toyota and Subaru started it in 2012 with GT86 and BRZ. I hope Renault and Volkswagen start making FR i4 primitive sports cars. Stick shift, hand brake, no VSC, no torque vectoring, no auto blip.
definitely the MOST STUPID and irelevant mode to compare engines: on track. There's about Tyres, suspensions, weight, driver skills .. then, in the end, engine power and reliability (as long as all of them are prepaired for track -cooling, dry sump, etc)

So the answer is a 32 with lightweight chassis bracing, romoved HICAS and perhaps even alloy control arms, hubs & maybe a billet block?
Perfect timing
