He tightens the bow so it sounds and acts more like a baroque bow. It gets bouncy but first finger pressure will keep the sound light and the bow on the string. It seems to be pretty bouncy for the first few minutes then he really tightens up the grip toward the end.
Bruh his first violin sonata is in g minor and doesn’t have and allegro movement. If this were movement four of his first violin sonata it would be presto. So I’m confused how this mistake happened but it is a fairly big one. The title is just wrong
There is always room for improvement. As a violinist I felt that the performance was rushed and mechanical. Lacked contrast, and failed to identify the different voices in the composition. The tempo could have been varied to express the emotion in the music. This sounded more like a bland technical performance, rather than music that came from the musician's heart. The tightness of the bow is reflected in the tightness of his arm, and consequently a lack of fluidity in playing the Sonata. This would also make it difficult to vary bow pressure on the strings.
this is sonata NO. 2.
i love u meastro gil shaham ...
깔끔한 멸치 맑은 국수발 맛! Wonderful artist!
Look how tight he has his bow...
I agree, I never tighten mine that much. Having said I was paying more attention to the wonderful playing.
+Alex Ewan amen to that!
Rudiger Augustine that makes it even more impressive. it's near impossible to play this smoothly with that much bow tension

If I am not wrong, he uses Nürnberger bow, which needs to be super tightened to make proper sound.
Expert !

Fuck you dude
No dude, we want to hear your own version. If it will be better than Gill's, then we can say you're right. Untill then...🤫
@@FlaviusIgnatKeys Just listen to the Netherlands Bach Society version -- much more heartfelt:

@johlib1 No. It is a modern bow.

Just a flub.
Sorry but that was not so good.....
Horrible performance.

Rosa Grau Yeah he sounds like a 14 yo student - with a jerky bow movement - reading thru this for the first time.......🤦♂️
