It's mind boggling that someone can learn 2.5 hours of super complex music by memory and sit there on a stage with an audience and cameras and recording equipment and play it flawlessly. Super human!
Interestingly, I have already memorized and can play without score the whole first suite and the first two movements of the second. And I have eight months of practice only. It actually comes faster than you’d think. Now playing with that sound snd intonation is a whole different story ! But my point is musical memory can be trained and used rather easily imo

One of the many reasons I love the cello more than any other string instrument... it is able to sound dark, full, bright, high pitched, low pitched-- all depending on how you want to play it.
You may be down, you may be depressed, you may be at the point of giving up..but Trust me, He silence still means He is speaking. Trust His process, He will always come through for you. Giving up is not an option now. God bless You
I have listened through this magnificent performance dozens of times. I simply have not heard these beautiful suites rendered with such emotion, skill and fluidity. The filmography, venue and recording are wonderful. UA-cam and google recommends these performed by others and I often stop mid-performance to come back here because here I feel transported and entranced with Mr. Coppey's music.

Wow, what lyrical, beautiful, poetic playing! There are so many "definitive" recordings of these Bach masterpieces, but this has to be one of the very best I've ever heard -- and live! Bravo!
Yes, Marc Is a great cello player and I like this recording very much. There is more reasons than one why YoYo is more famous. I am not enaugh qualified to count all of them. Here is just one personal observation: YoYo is playing with open eyes, keeping the contact with audience, he is using his eyes as additional channel to spread the music energy to listeners. If you attend his concert you will get a chance to understand the power of his open eyes ...
@@bohdandovhanic7066 Hello. I have seen YoYo. I personally like Marc better. I believe his touch is far superior. Different than Rostropovich or course in a " cerebral way" but more to my liken. God bless all these wonderful players that we can enjoy. Happy New Year and Be Well.
The sound and story told in the music makes me contemplate things eternal. I am transported to eternity. God is amazing. Such gifts to us both through his gifts to others and in our sight now to know Him as giver of life and all things god and perfect. Quite wonderful. Thank you.

I love Bach's compositions but little did I know that classical musicians really didn't just play for their own standing but rather dedicated it to the divine, which is why their music was so godly unlike today's music that's centered around hating existence rather than that of gratitude of experiencing this mystery called life

Two days ago Marc Coppey gave the Vth at Aix en Provence Festival de Pàques2022. Among five French cellists, his ´cello voice for that musical intimate meditation was moving and outstanding , I was there because I also wanted to see him live . And I keep coming to this amazing Arte upload . I need his unique Bach cello Suites to live through these unsettled days…
I've rarely heard anything on youtube that sounded like this, or maybe only some old, very inspired Indian classical musicians on sitar (shame on you hauser's fans). This man has obviously spent a long time with Bach to penetrate his works, and now is playing it from the inside, sharing his own insight with us. The last level above virtuosity is understanding, and so few musicians reach both.
I was immediately struck by the first few chords, that this was truly good playing. I recall falling in love with these suites with Janos Stárker in the 1960s. Coppey´s playing compares very well indeed!
Just out of simple respect for the complete dedication, focus and devotion required to master this entire set of timeless suites, a really educated human would never hit that dislike button. If you did, go and reconsider your ethical framework and worldview, because there is something fundamentally wrong with you.
One of my favorite interpretations of the Bach Suites, ever! Really beautiful pace, and lots of knowledgeable, virtuoso moments! Pretty! Excellent work! Particularly with the Suite No.6, which was intended to be played with a 5 stringed Baroque cello. His approach to play the No.6, and the fingering choices, make a lot of sense (also, beautiful hand shapes!). Loved it! ❤️👏👏👏

I have listened to this over 50 times now. In my opinion, there is no better rendition of this work performed by this master 🙌
Only 50! I think I am on 300 now. I had never before listened to something more than, maybe, 10 times.
Trembling, powerful, deep, dark and sacred sound in peaceful posture. He let the music sing, not his character. Thanks for his performance.
I like that, the music and not his character bit. Well said. ^^
I agree. I love it. Not too much "performance", just close your eyes and listen. But I don't mind those who do "perform". I like them too!
Reminds me of Pierre Fournier
You may be down, you may be depressed, you may be at the point of giving up..but Trust me, He silence still means He is speaking. Trust His process, He will always come through for you. Giving up is not an option now. God bless You
Devine. Had Johann Sebastian Bach only written the six cello suite he still would’ve been considered one of the greatest composers ever

Could not agree w/ U more! Especially, the last statement, at closing. 😎
@@hvosouq Absolutely. I do.
Coppey's music.
fully. completely
Merci, merci, merci.
The sound quality is astonishing, it feels I was there, in the room! Superb interpretation
Bach is a gift from Heaven !
He is indeed, Zbigniew! By the way, I kindly recommend the appreciation of the work of a living classical composer dedicated mostly to sacred music: W. Ferdinand. I feel myself like a sort of non-official ambassador for his music - and, effectively, also one of his few supporters. He is very, very talented. Muchos gracias !
I can sleep into my dreams every day with Marc Coppey's version of Bach's Six Suites.
Written 300 years ago and still it speaks to us. Music expresses the ineffable. What a delight this is and must have been to attend. What an exquisite and apposite venue.
I think this music praise the Lord God, It was born as a Christian music and played in a church, a place where people come to honor Him, showing respect and human love to each other. This music wakes up this feelings.
I am so happy that Coppey's recording is back. A most perfect performance of the greatest music for the cello ever written.
Bravo bravo bravo. Mr Marc Coppey.
Great performance by Marc Coppey. Brilliant interpretation. Interesting camera work. Excellent ambience added to the performance! Yes, Finest Bach Suites in the World!!!!!!! God bless!
Soooooo how was covid
Wow, what lyrical, beautiful, poetic playing! There are so many "definitive" recordings of these Bach masterpieces, but this has to be one of the very best I've ever heard -- and live! Bravo!
Hand clap to any reference of Feynman.
@@auntiecarol My hero of science, as he is for many , I bet... :)
The melody is simple but beautiful, it puts me in a meditative state.
How is this guy not as or more famous as YoYo? His playing is so smooth yet precise on so many delicate levels.. A++++
Yes, Marc Is a great cello player and I like this recording very much.
Because he is French !!!
The sound and story told in the music makes me contemplate things eternal. I am transported to eternity. God is amazing. Such gifts to us both through his gifts to others and in our sight now to know Him as giver of life and all things god and perfect. Quite wonderful. Thank you.
Calm and yet expressive, most enjoyable of him and Bach cello, than you for your post.

I love Bach's compositions but little did I know that classical musicians really didn't just play for their own standing but rather dedicated it to the divine, which is why their music was so godly unlike today's music that's centered around hating existence rather than that of gratitude of experiencing this mystery called life
Discovered this glorious recital in July 2020 during our time of 'pandemic exhaustion' re Covid-19, and what expansive tearful relief it brings! Like the others who've commented, I honour this soul-nurturing interpretation. Shall turn to it often, knowing its freshness will abide. So grateful that you posted it for us.

Thank you for the fantastic music played by a fantastic artist and for no ads.
His intonation is just on point. His fingers are solid on those strings crazy
The sound Marc gets from his cello is just so so good, it is like the sound of the French language but translated to a Cello, silky smooth 😀
¡Gracias maestro Coppey!
Incredible performance and recording. I listened to this everyday during work.
Great Musician + Sublime violoncello sound + Right auditorium = +2 hours of Superb Performance!!

BIG THANKS for sharing your fantastic rendition of the Bach cello masterpieces, Maestro. May God bless you.

@@fredericodecastro5130 Thank you very much, I will watch it. Where are you from?
@@adrianaalvesbruno7557 I'm glad to know! I live in Brazil. What about you?
His playing is out of this world.
He seems like a monk.
Finalmente !!!!
The cinematography on this thing is something quite else.
Marvelous. Not to be compared with the poor YoYo Ma, bland and spiritless interpretation. Thank you Mr Coppey !
Quel interprète ! Quelle musique ! Prise de son et images superbes. Merci 🙏

Best soundstaging and mic/cable/pre quality so far that I can find!
This rendition brought tears to my eyes. I must see Marc Coppey live. Thanks for posting.
This is just a perfect piece of music. Extraordinary workmanship...magical music...
Dear Marc, many thanks, absolutely wonderful! And the Sarabande of the Sixth...sigh...
I was immediately struck by the first few chords, that this was truly good playing. I recall falling in love with these suites with Janos Stárker in the 1960s. Coppey´s playing compares very well indeed!

I have been listening to this over and over again. It’s so perfect that even his breaths sound like part of the music :)
Mark Coppey is wonderfully expressive. A true artist.
Loved it! ❤️👏👏👏
