One must remember that the Naval Cutlass was as much a tool as weapon. During the age of Sail, after a battle when you had to clear the decks. The Cutlass was often used to cut ropes and sail and other downed rigging and small spars. A very good multi purpose blade.
Whenever I buy a Cold Steel sword with a blued finish, I just remove the bluing with vinegar. I first did it with my Man At Arms Arming Sword. I prefer the bare steel look.
The reason this sword type is blade heavy, is because this was not only a weapon, but also a tool used to clean up the deck of your ship after the battle, that is if you where still afloat. So you'd need to be able to chop through heavy line, canvas and wooden spars. This Cutlass was the last issue military blade used by the navy. If you know the movie "The Sand Pebbles" there is a scene where the captain of the gun boat is using this type of sword in one hand and a .45 in the other.
Simple and nice very well done! I own the $75 Condor Naval cutlass for those looking for simpler yet exceptional offering which is also light weight. The $25 Cold Steel cutlass machete is recommended for those new in the "game". Cheers Blazin'Blades
I do like these reviews of swords as an enthusiast myself it was funny how I came across this channel I was looking for a review of the American Revolution saber
I have subscribed I like the podcasts and I like the idea of doing the reviews and an idea might be doing some demonstrations of sword play I would love that cause I'm always trying to learn more techniques
+Liam Friedman Thanks a million! Keep a look out in the next week or two, we will be posting some tutorials starting with Alfred Hutton's cut and parry drills with plenty follow. Glad you are enjoying the podcast as well.
That's definitely something we will consider for a future video! Unfortunately, we do not have that sword right now. At this point, we are self-funded, and it's balancing our budget with the other videos that we make. Thank you for your support!
How does it compare with the hanwei revolutionary war hanger in terms of blade thickness, weight, blade geometry, cutting ability, etc? Perhaps you could do a comparison video since you have both?
It's overall a heavier design. We can make a comparison video in the future. Thanks! Be on the lookout, as THIS. IS. PODCAST. IS COMING BACK VERY SOON!
you should train your body dog instead of playing with swords all day. come on you wanna be a badass knight? you gotta work for it. your a big guy man, your still young hit that gym and get some power behind your swings I know you can do it cause anyone can you just gotta want it. you dont need no steroids or a personal trainer. go get some protein powder and a YMCA membership and get to work. For real your giving medieval enthusiasts a bad name. Get your self to that gym and do some work. I dont give a shit if you got bad joints or whatever dont be lazy hit the pool then.

I have both and was in our navy.
The Sand Pebbles is also an excellent example of sword battle in an age of firearms.

Another good sword review, and I been wanting a little more information about that sword, and I like there 1917 bowie knife.
I searched up my UA-cam Channel and found this, good video!
That has a strong tip? Or easily rolls over like the machete swords?

You’re the one giving people a bad name.
