What sets Patti apart is not only the ease, but the sheer power!! Sometimes her head voice is even stronger than her belting. You can’t say that about anybody else in pop music.
Whats astonishing is that she is 73 now and has been singing over 50 years.... Her mixed voice is caput but those head notes are still crystalline gold.
@@darthestaaar Patti can not belt a G5 anymore. Any highs are mostly in head voice which is where her mix is strong at. However, her mix is not as strong as simply belting in full voice. Why do you think she resorts to head voice so often? Shes older and her voice can't support that high anymore in full voice. Some days are better than others but it is what it is. She's still amazing.
She is the one singer they can hit notes the most singers can’t even touch. To be over 70 and have an active range of the same little girl she was at 20, is a amazing.
Every time I see Patti in concert she sang. I don't care if she is singing in ABCDEFG SHE CAN SANG.AND STILL GOING STRONG. AT 74 years YOUNG AND STILL DOING CONCERTS AND HER VOICE IS STILL POWERFUL. AND STILL WEARING HEELS YOU GO PATTI PATTI!!!!! LUV HER
There is more to singing than vocal range, but Ms Labelle is one of those people whom you never see a bad live video online. Maybe because they don't get uploaded? I dunno, but she is spot on EVERY TIME.
We are so blessed to have Patti Labelle. She gives a masterclass in singing with the full support of the chest! She’s still singing live and in fine voice in her 70s. Meanwhile singers more than half her age are having to have vocal surgery to treat the ravages of bad technique. God Bless you Patti Labelle!
Ella tiene una voz de tamaño grande, si ella hubiera cantado ópera definitivamente la hubieran clasificado como soprano dramática por el gran tamaño de su voz.
Wrong Patti is a Lyric Soprano , she had training as , and also her terrisuta is too high to be a Dramatic Soprano and her headvoice is too small to be a Dramatic Soprano , her headvoice is large but compared to an actual Dramatic Soprano very small in comparison
Ok not a music academic can someone explain what a fortissmo is technique wise? I always thought she was just a dramatic soprano. Love the compilation by the way 👏👏👏
To put it in lame terms is just a very loud way of singing and being that she’s a Dramatic Soprano, her voice is naturally made for fortissimo singing. Dramatic Sopranos have incredibly powerful voices and the key way of spotting one is like how Patti’s head notes can drown out other singers and orchestras. A Dramatic Soprano singer could NOT have a microphone in their hand and still be heard in an auditorium or venue singing.
Sadly, she is now dependent on that fabulous head voice to replace the chest notes that she lost almost a decade ago. Sometimes it works. Many times it does not.
I think mix voice requires a bit more coordination, and she probably needs to find her placement again, due to age. If the head voice and middle are still there, I don't see how she couldn't retrain it, but maybe she's happy with her head notes.
That's becuz her head voice are well connected and as strong as her own modal register (even tho, her big octave jump from modal voice to head voice are kinda crack, which give an illusion of falsetto instead of head voice)
Her voice probably carries too much weight to be able to pull F6 without using an improper (and damaging) singing technique. Most Dramatic Sopranos either don’t or can’t sing higher than E6 unless they’re using whistle register. There isn’t a single video of Patti ever using WR.... so I highly doubt she has ever recorded an F6
Her voice carries too much weight for it to be mask in these clips. She does know how to use her mask, but she’s only really just now started using her mask in place of belts due to her aging:-( Listen to her sing Reach with Cyndi Lauper and that will be Patti’s mask voice. Everything in this video is either a pure belt or a balanced/mixed belt
Don't worry no one can ever take Areths's place, she's set in stone as The Queen of Soul. But there is room for Pattie and Gladys. Ive never cared very much for Pattie style of singing, but I do enjoy some of her work. But Aretha is THE QUEEN, and Gladys is my second favorite The Empress of Soul. But Aretha stands above them all there's no denying that, just ask Patti and Gladys. They'll tell you on no uncertain terms, that Aretha is Queen and deservingly so.
Color Purple yes you right but we all have our preference. For me Gladys does it, she sings like brown sugar, cotton fields and candied yams. Patti nor Aretha can match her soul or her vibrato . For me I love them both but I’ll pick listening to an alto with range over a soprano any day sometimes it sounds lika cat in heat 😜
Exactly I can’t stand people who put others down. All the of these women mentioned have work hard in their own right and title; Queen of soul, Empress of soul, and God mother of soul. No one is trying to take Aretha’s title. This video is just showing one of Patti’s gift that is amazing. I get it if you like Gladys Knight,Patti Labelle, or Aretha Franklin. For me I like Sopranos, but that doesn’t mean we are making Patti the queen of soul.

Her head-voice is insane. She instantly puts all else on mute.
DontLookHereMang! True that
That's exactly true!!!!
True
Patti's range is INSANE!!!! That woman is music royalty.
PATTI LABELLE OWNS C6 THROUGH E6 AND NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT AWAY SIMPLE SHE HITS THESE NOTES OVER THE AGE OF 70 WHILE EVERYONE'S VOCALS ARE SLIPPING
Preach!!!😁👍

I've watched this vid for an unhealthy amounts of times.
I feel you...me too. But it’s alright, I get my life off of this video.
Some soprano's cannot hit the high c's so easily, and patti labelle have a great access throughout her voice registration...
She turns them C's out.
Patty is as good as any singer I've ever heard...n she needs the same RESPECT.!!!!!

The queen of resonance in head tones 👑 lol
omg she has such a control i liiive
OMG! THANK YOU FOR THIS please more VOCALS OF PATTI LABELLE 😍😍😍
I've thrown my phone and flapped my arms wildly. Patti Labelle is a national treasure.💕
I LOVEEEEE her head voice 😍 it's ringing as hell, her tone, ease and control
She has a very well developed upper voice. Her head voice is amazing.
One of the best vocalists ever. Everything. Legendary. Divine. I am running out of words. Help me.
The queen of head voice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
islandlife89 when she hits that Eb# is it me or does it sound like a mix with whistle note or the beginnings of it.
islandlife89 whitney is
Erick Freiria but Whitney has better technique in HV than Patti
Whitney's head voice is prettier sounding. But Patti's are technically better and more controlled.
Whitney's hv was prettier imo
There is an angel in her voice!
Such a powerful and loud voice
She has an awesome voice ❤ love it
The Queen.........love her madly. Thanks for posting this.

Ms Patti Labelle just uploaded a video of her and Chaka Khan , at the end of which Patti does an insane fortissimo
Ok not a music academic can someone explain what a fortissmo is technique wise? I always thought she was just a dramatic soprano. Love the compilation by the way 👏👏👏
Obi Braxton It means LOUD or simply "not soft".
Dramatic sopranos excel at fortissimo. Note how her voice literally drowns out almost everything else without strain on those notes.
Obi Braxton fortissimo is a "dynamic". Very loud
Obi Braxton google can tell you all about it!

bruh she's been singing for over 60 years. No complaints she shouldn't even have the vocal chords left.
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run.

Isn't head voice up there harder to hit? Her belting has always seemed to be a modified head voice
Soprano dramática
The C#6s in 1:30 are more chest voice than head voice.
