@@ayrei1503 yeah I realized that afterwards. But I still think that self hosting such game with official assets can become a pain for them on the long run
It certainly looks like an interesting project, but I lost my feeling of "Maybe I could try it sometime" when you got to the part where users would have to join the devs' Discord server. I don't have Discord anymore, and I certainly don't want to be forced to reactivate my account or make a new one just to be able to play the game. I also would've liked to know if there are in-game purchases, especially with real money, or any pay-to-win features in particular. That certainly would be a red flag for me. Another thing is localization: I can't seem to find any information on the game being available in more languages than just English, or if any work is being done on localizing it. I have a friend I would like to tell about this game, but said friend is not very good at understanding English, which would make playing the game for him very hard, since Pokémon typically is a game with a lot of text
I honestly dont see how this competes with PokeMMO or Pokerogue when it comes to fanmade games. The fakemon don't really look that appealing to me and it doesn't seem to offer the polish of PokeMMO, nor unique features like PokeOne where you can co-op through the regions including gym leaders and trainer battles. PokeMMO is also playable on mobile so theres no real competition here to me.
If Pokéngine will have bottlecaps, then I'm completely ditching PokeMMO. Grinding and time consumption hasn't been so great as compared to touching real grass.
project reloaded is the best, just hard especially the gyms, and the level caps make it so much harder to beat gyms xD overleveled my machoke a lil and it would not listen 🤣 also being the only pokemon i could use to beat the first gym
It's a nice intro video to Pokengine, but you don't really drive the thesis. What does it mean for it to be "the future of Pokémon fan games"? It clearly has some outstanding features, but how do these compare to other fan games? And when you think of something being "the future of" concepts like influence and popularity pop up? Will Pokengine change how fan games are made in the future? Will its hitherto rare or unique features soon be seen everywhere? Or should you expect it to have a huge player base? Or act as a platform where many artists put their work, instead of in separate games? Admittedly, the intent of this video doesn't appear to be to drive the thesis, but to show off Pokengine, and it manages that well. But when an eye-catching thesis is put in the title, and then isn't explored, it comes off as clickbait.
My bad if I did a poor job explaining it, but my reasoning behind it was the idea that you could play one fangame/region on this MMO and then play another, keeping the same character progression and Pokemon, which isn't something I've ever really seen outside of MMO's with mostly official regions. I try not to rely on clickbait for my videos, it's one of my biggest gripes with fangame youtube (example, "THE BEST POKEMON FANGAME" being used in a third of every fangame video title) but I have to use an once of it to survive on this platform. It doesn't matter how good my video is, if they don't click they don't watch.
Check out Pokerogue then. I actually initially discovered Pokenegine through Pokerogue because they tell you to check it out in one of their random main menu messages lol. Anyway it's a fangame and it's a Pokémon rougelite and it's even cooler than the genre name makes it sound. It's like if Pokémon stadium had progression (and I guess wasn't exclusively doubles... which I would love for them to add as a separate mode). Anyway I can't get enough of it so I'm taking the time to type all of this. Thanks for reading, and have a good day. Play pokerogue!
This does look like something I need to take a closer look at, seeing as it's one of the few only fan projects that have a cross-region system. However, I have a feeling it's not going to hold my interest for that long. Most fan projects end up being isolated from each other due to the nature of amateur game development, as in most start out with their own visions they aren't that eager to share with others for often good but inhibiting reasons.
100% Discord gatekeeps info behind expiring invite-only servers with godawful organization, completely bubbled away from search engines, the servers themselves often hard to find and at the behest of a single admin with a 5-second nuke button under their thumb. So many developers are now setting up a subreddit for their apps only to be a front mat for their Discord server, where an automod and a few subscribers always “helpfully” direct questions to the Discord server, “where people are active anyway :)” Screw Discord. It’s terrible for the internet
This game looks great! Thanks for sharing it with us I just had a few questions Are there things like an in-game economy? Are there legendaries? Wonder trading/GTS? Do they
I haven't gotten to the late game part of the whole "mmo" experience where a lot of this would matter, but I'm not sure if there is an ingame economy. I believe there are legendaries in certain regions, and I'm not sure if there is a GTS or wondertrade system.
Problem of this game to me is it miss some features like seing attack description in game like when u level up and get a new one u can't compare stats of the attacks u need to open a new web page to see what it does, when ur poke die u need to go to the menu to switch because it doesn't show up alone, same for the bag no bag button in fight u need to open the start menu to go through it, the pc box is painful to navigate to see poke stats, the map is meh not really usefull, sometimes the game is a bit lagging. The best part is a lot of poke, and a lot of world, the poke found in a world cannot be transfered in another world until beaten if I understand correctly, a decent outfit feature, a loot feature some poke hold item that can be drop if defeated. And that's all for now with my 3h experience.
Maybe its just me, but all fakemon don't feel like pokémon. No matter how good the design, I just can't get over the fact they aren't official and I don't like em. Good job on the devs for what they've created though. Hope many enjoy it.
Not an unpopular opinion at all. Personally I prefer games with fakemon, but only if the designs and art are actually good. A lot of fan games just can't seem to make good ones.
In the game there's few sort of errors like Arlean city park cave challenge man is kinda buggy, battle with Calvin and hero infront of first daughter of cinosta family after that scene ends if you visit that place Calvin's image is still their and after completing the game if you visit the guild dorm by talking lift the screen stops but the dilaogue where Hero and Rylan talks then Destiny and Calvin's battle image while teaming up with hero the image dispalys as gold and dawn.
my only problem is just that it's a browser based game. Browser based games are known to be "hackers playgrounds" from what i've learned as they're easy to access other people's computers. Other than that, with how NINTENDO treats their POKEMON franchise i'm all for this.

@@zhaumbie @zhaumbie almost Half of those you mentioned weren't even "shut down" but instead received a DMCA/takedown request and is completely different from a Cease and Desist and usually just requires a relocation of the project. I'm also 90% sure the roblox mods were monetized like 99% of games on roblox are.
Even then, that's like less than 20 you listed, out of what, a couple thousand fangames/ROM-hacks that exist? Not to mention other insanely popular fangames like insurgence and reborn that are completely fine after a decade.
they self host the game on their website, wouldn't that make them VERY easy to get killed by The Pokémon Company? In comparison, PokéMMO is considered as a Mod that only modifies the base game that the user provides (but pokémmo never provides the game files) and the shop is considered to be donations so they manage to avoid legal problems
I don't see how Pokengine will survive if it ever gets popular with the current model
This is a huge misconception, the "shop" is a place you can spend "PP" that can be earned by logging in daily or from completing minigames. Not sure entirely how it works yet myself, but I do know that you cannot purchase anything with real money.
@@ayrei1503 yeah I realized that afterwards. But I still think that self hosting such game with official assets can become a pain for them on the long run
just drop the pokemon part. make it your own youre almost there. we will fund you
It certainly looks like an interesting project, but I lost my feeling of "Maybe I could try it sometime" when you got to the part where users would have to join the devs' Discord server.
Grinding and time consumption hasn't been so great as compared to touching real grass.
im playing reloaded, and go with hardmode, im enjoying the game, so much to do
project reloaded is the best, just hard especially the gyms, and the level caps make it so much harder to beat gyms xD overleveled my machoke a lil and it would not listen 🤣 also being the only pokemon i could use to beat the first gym

What were those first 2 fangames at the very start of the video?
The first with real time battle was pokemon reloaded
This should be sitting right next to Pokémon Generations. So sad they took that one from us, and never gave anything remotely like it in return
What pokemon game is that in the beginning with the non turn based battle
Because it *is* clickbait
My bad if I did a poor job explaining it, but my reasoning behind it was the idea that you could play one fangame/region on this MMO and then play another, keeping the same character progression and Pokemon, which isn't something I've ever really seen outside of MMO's with mostly official regions. I try not to rely on clickbait for my videos, it's one of my biggest gripes with fangame youtube (example, "THE BEST POKEMON FANGAME" being used in a third of every fangame video title) but I have to use an once of it to survive on this platform. It doesn't matter how good my video is, if they don't click they don't watch.
Sadly i dont like fangames with sooo much fan made pokemon that have their own line
But the system is awesome
Check out Pokerogue then. I actually initially discovered Pokenegine through Pokerogue because they tell you to check it out in one of their random main menu messages lol. Anyway it's a fangame and it's a Pokémon rougelite and it's even cooler than the genre name makes it sound. It's like if Pokémon stadium had progression (and I guess wasn't exclusively doubles... which I would love for them to add as a separate mode). Anyway I can't get enough of it so I'm taking the time to type all of this. Thanks for reading, and have a good day. Play pokerogue!
Btw nobody paid me to do this I just genuinely fucking love the game it's the shit man lol
what was the game in the bigening wiht the quilava and swirlix????

Waaaiiittt a second-
This does look like something I need to take a closer look at, seeing as it's one of the few only fan projects that have a cross-region system. However, I have a feeling it's not going to hold my interest for that long.
Most fan projects end up being isolated from each other due to the nature of amateur game development, as in most start out with their own visions they aren't that eager to share with others for often good but inhibiting reasons.
bookmark the page and add it to your homepage, it's like using Luna.
Most important question: Can you speed up battles?
I don't believe so, but they run a lot faster than most fangames on 1x speed
does it have coop like Pokeone?
This seems awesome but I'm afraid if it mostly being fakemon
I don't know how many actual pokemon there are
It is good many regions have real and fake pokemon, some having only real pokemon like cloudia
What's the game at the start with Quilava running around?
Reloaded. There's a short video on my channel if you want to learn more about it!
at this point, why not make your own game without the fear of PokemonCompany coming down with the CnD upon you ?
Because the last time they've done it to a non-profit fangame was 8 years ago?
Because they wanted to make a fangame
Sounds cool, but is there some challenge to it as well?

It’s the Area Zero from Pokémon scarlet/violet
It's stupid that not anyone can freely play it as it wants them to go to their discord server to be a beta tester so i will have to pass on it
100%
Discord gatekeeps info behind expiring invite-only servers with godawful organization, completely bubbled away from search engines, the servers themselves often hard to find and at the behest of a single admin with a 5-second nuke button under their thumb.
So many developers are now setting up a subreddit for their apps only to be a front mat for their Discord server, where an automod and a few subscribers always “helpfully” direct questions to the Discord server, “where people are active anyway :)”
Screw Discord. It’s terrible for the internet

This game looks great! Thanks for sharing it with us
I just had a few questions
Are there things like an in-game economy?
Can you play co-op for the story missions?
by "co-op" if you mean battling together then I don't think so
Maybe its just me, but all fakemon don't feel like pokémon.
I feel that exactly. I’m too picky when it comes to stuff like this lmao
Me too I don't hate them but I just like the official more for some reason
I can really recommend pokemon solar light and lunar dark, all of it's fakemon feel very pokemon-esque
I am the same. I can handle fan made regional variants or Megas for example, but outright Fakemon just dont do it for me
Sick
In the game there's few sort of errors like Arlean city park cave challenge man is kinda buggy, battle with Calvin and hero infront of first daughter of cinosta family after that scene ends if you visit that place Calvin's image is still their and after completing the game if you visit the guild dorm by talking lift the screen stops but the dilaogue where Hero and Rylan talks then Destiny and Calvin's battle image while teaming up with hero the image dispalys as gold and dawn.
please report these issues in my discord, not in the comments of this video
