    Those are some brave kids shooting 308 and not being afraid of the recoil. A plus

    I was carrying my Ruger American last year white tail hunting when I found out my wife was pregnant with our daughter, really looking forward to getting her into hunting, firearms, and the outdoors when the time comes, but for now I’m looking forward to getting to meet her in June 😊

    I love the upgrades to the rifle and especially love seeing how well your daughter did shooting that rifle. She's a natural for sure!! I use the laser bore sighter exactly like you demonstrated in the this video.

      Glad you liked the video! I agree she is a natural. She has been shooting the lids off of Gatorade bottles from 20 yards with her 22LR open sights since she was 4. Thank you for watching!

    Great shooting by your daughter. Some added information might help. Laser bore sighters are not necessarily 100% accurate. Some of them, when rotated in a 360 circle, show the red dot moving. Depending on THAT particular bore sighter, the red dot can trace a pretty big circle which means the laser light itself isn't 100% centered. Some bore sighters have four allen head screws that allow for adjustment. Your bore sighter is probably as close to perfect as I've ever seen. I have two of these devices and the best I can adjust mine give me a 3/4" circular rotating red dot at about 30 feet. I have to compensate a bit but since I know where the center of that circle is, it's not a problem. Also, since the scope on your rifle is somewhat above the bore of the barrel, that should be considered when bore sighting. Scope and barrel are really never parallel. If your scope is 2" above the bore of the barrel you would need to figure out at what distance the bullet impact is the same at a close range and then further out. But, again...that group your daughter shot is awesome.

      I saw it also.....to make a range clear/cold always leave the bolt back, no round in the bore and if the gun has a magazine, remove it. Kids need to be taught proper gun/range safety from the start. Otherwise enjoyed the procedure to laser bore sight

    How does sighting 2 inches high at 100 yards accommodate for the 14 inch drop you'll get at 300 yards on a 308 165 grain bullet?

    • @OutdoorMike
      @OutdoorMike  Рік тому +1

      I was actually shooting 168gr BTHP. For that round if you have a group about 2" high at 100yards you should be shooting flat at 200 and just over 8 inches of drop at 300. Which is easy to account for in the field. I didn't want my kids taking shots over 250 for their first hunt. Turned out my daughter didn't need that kind of range and stalked into 35 yards to shoot her first deer.

      With the Lazer on target once you start moving the turrets you will see them adjusting towards the Lazer dot.

    Being new to the gun world, would this work for a red dot as well?

    • @OutdoorMike
      @OutdoorMike  Рік тому +1

      I don't see why not. Might be a little harder using a red dot to line up with a red dot. But it should work in theory. Never tried it myself.

    Why do most of these laser bore sighting videos always seem off when you actually get to the range and send rounds down range? Seems like you still have to use a same amount of ammo to zero the firearm, so why purchase the laser?

    • @OutdoorMike
      @OutdoorMike  Рік тому +1

      The laser bore sight gets you on paper faster. I have had scopes that when initially mounted on a rifle were shooting 3 feet to the right at 100 yards. This tool helps avoid that.

      LOL. That's just up on the mountain near my house. As long as they are not on fire restrictions we are OK to target shoot.
