Introducing Lacy Shirey as the next Executive Director of the Elizabeth River Project

The Elizabeth River Project's Board of Directors is excited to announce Lacy Shirey as its new Executive Director, effective February 24, 2025. Following a nationwide search, Lacy was chosen to succeed founding director Marjorie Mayfield Jackson, who has been at the helm since the organization's inception around a kitchen table in 1991.
With over 13 years of nonprofit leadership experience, Lacy brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship. Her current role as Executive Director of the Chesapeake Humane Society showcased her ability to build trust and foster connections within the Hampton Roads community, earning the organization recognition as a "River Star Business" by the Elizabeth River Project.
She is eager to continue the Elizabeth River Project's mission of restoring the river for future generations. "It’s a privilege to join an organization that has already accomplished so much for our river and our region under Marjorie’s leadership and the dedication of the entire team," says Shirey.
