Dude never ran. Dude never ducked. Dude had the biggest heart. Dude had a fantastic left hand. Dude is a legend. Love Sergio Martinez.
🥊💯
4 Sure!
El matador
Man I love Martinez. He has this style that makes you think of that new kid on the block who always gets into schoolyard fights and street brawls and he enjoys every single minute of it. He gives his opponent chances and he risks.
@ I believe it too!
the most underrated boxer In boxing history. age was his greatest enemy!!! One of my favorites
Age always wins as they say
+Okay Damn Not true
*cough cough Chuck Norris cough
MArtinez got his ass kicked by Cotto
Only because he had bad knees at the end of his career
Dee Dee A Prime Martinez would've been a different Story
I remember this was carrying the entire sport on his shoulders for like 2 years. Boxing was on its deathbed and this man kept the sport alive just long enough.
Boxing wasn't dead never it was just some new names coming up my guy
@@terencejones4057 2008-2012 boxing had the worst viewership since the 60s. UFC and cage fighting took over. Boxing made its come back after canelo vs floyd.
@@mateenfoster4595 I'm just saying forget the viewership I was pretty much still locked in at the time all I'm saying is it wasn't dead to me really
Compared to today Boxing was stronger during Maravilla’s prime vs today. You had so many good fights on HBO, Showtime and ESPN. Now we’re getting nothing but bullshit Twitter beefs.
Manny Pacquiao? He had his best fights around those years
Man!!!!! Sergio is a big inspiration to everyone including non-boxing fans. He entered his first boxing gym at 20, at this age you are suppose to be a well established boxer if you want to make it in this sport. Not only he became great but he was also considered the pfp 2nd-3rd best boxer in the world in his prime, next to Mayweather and Pacman. This guy truly has a big heart and pure dedication. Age and injuries did caught up to him though; like any other great athletes but Sergio should definitely be in the hall of fame.
Letsgetit611
Yea you can tell he started boxing late. These were HIS HIGHLIGHTS and count how many times he got dropped by his opponents...
He’s a good fighter and I like him, but please don’t compare him to the elites...
@@luisyanez6629 he is an elite my boy. He just took more risks for his fans knock downs ant shit!! He still got back dusted him self off and won the fight. I would consider Martinez a HOF over ggg at this point
Great comment!
Letsgetit611 I agree. He’s a huge boxing inspiration to everyone including me.
Luis Yanez Well you have to take his style into account. He was a risk taker lol
I got 2 words to describe this guy: Big Heart
I got a few words, he LOST to KING COTTO
Ya estaba grande y con una rodilla pulverizada....3 o 4 años antes le hubiese dado la paliza de su vida a Cotto, casualidad, nunca lo quizo enfrentar antes, como muchos otros....un Monstruo Martinez !!!
Dee Dee he had no knees in that fight that was a cash out fight. Although Cotto looked good also
Murray should of got the nod
I would say fast hands
Dude was something special in his prime would've been good to see him vs ggg
sergio ducked ggg like the plague
Danny Garcia if they had fought before his bad knees that would of been something. GGG I don't know if he corners Sergio ? Be a good fight few years ago
ggg only wanted to fight him in 2014 after cotto stopped him and his legs were shot at that point
Danny Garcia in Sergio prime he would've destroyed GGG like what he did to Kelly
joseph salas no ggg became his mandatory right before when he fought cotto just different tome frames it wasnt meant to happen martinez was already 41 and injured and was prob gonna retire after the murray fight but knew he couldnt pass up the cotto offer. He made more money in that 1 fight than he did his whole career so of course he took a dive knowing he was damaged goods but did it for his well deserved pay day my respects to martinez one my fav fighters perhaps one generation too late but a prime sergio vs ggg is a hell of a fight but i dont think any one beats prime sergio (williams, pavlik times)
"without holding, without running!"
-Jim Lampley
not like ward or gaywether.
Gino Chen or like pussy McGregor
Still remember Larry merchant taking shit about Sergio as he’s fighting macklin. He’s not impressed. Sergio proceeds to split macklins face as merchant is spewing his garbage on tv. That shit was beautiful.
Anyone who cant appreciate dif styles is a shit fan, and anyone who cant acknowledge a fighters greatness for whatever bs bias is a liar, Martinez is a great champ/future hall of famer/ Mayweather jr is an atg legend. thats reality. Can respect or enjoy dif styles. Its what makes this sport the best, not everyone a brawler some have freakish skill like a whitaker or Mayweather and use it.....cause no shit lol.
Crazy guy.
Great career. Probably my second favorite fighter. Im gonna miss him. His prime was something special it's a shame his career ended due to injuries.
Great career, great fighter, definitely goes down as a legend in my opinion.
Now hes back !!!
He was old
He's back in the rankings again.
I know this is a Martinez highlight, but that Paul Williams chin was something else. He got hit by at least half a dozen 100% clean full power shots from Martinez and stayed up. It makes the knockout in the rematch all the more special because you know how absolutely perfect that shot had to be to end the fight.
Sergio was as legit as they get, no money behind him, not a ticket seller, he just got to the top by being a true great. When i was really getting into boxing he was one of the boxers I really got behind, the man's a legend.
This guys Heart & Brains are bigger than his body. What a genius of a Boxer.
yeah I agree. Given that Chavez was so much bigger than him, still he was talking his hooks flush and still managed to fight on in round 12! amazing.
jamil akhtar jajjajaajajajajaa. u wish
jamil akhtar
Yeah maybe on your PS3 but not in real boxing u know that
Haven't watched this Martinez retired and had forgotten how good he was; sure he was unorthodox and started late, his balance wasn't the best and he kept his hands low but his speed was amazing and accuracy first-class. That straight left was as good as anyones and the left and right hooks he there by fainting, ducking the head and letting the inertia carry the shot through truly were incredible; first and only time I've every seen a fighter throw that punch.
CarterTristan loved watching him... I think taking boxing as an adult suited him maybe if he learnt traditional mechanics of boxing he wouldn't of been so good on his feet elusive etc ?
You know your shit
He was a unique talent, a natural fighter, perhaps his knee problems slightly impeded his performances, but regardless he will be remembered in the future, who wouldn't want to watch Sergio Martinez perform.
He had an aggressive exciting style that is hard not to enjoy as a boxing fan!!
Legend. His first fight with Williams is one of the greatest battles I've ever seen
that Martinez vs Chavez fight was one of the best I've seen in a while, especially the way Martinez decided to end it
Definitely one of my favorite fights. Sergio’s footwork and ring generalship was on point in that fight.
Sergio was one of my favorite boxers around that time. So many good boxers from around this time period that don't even get talked about. Paul Williams, Kelly Pavlik, Winky Wright. Early to mid 2000s was really an exciting time for boxing.
It really was, lots of great fighters who were also coming up.
Paul Williams was dominant in that Era and Kelly Povlik wasn't no chump either.
Sergio martinez was a great great fighter in his prime
6 knockdowns against Dzinziruk, crushed Williams and Pavlik, what a great.
One of the best boxers of the history !!!
if cotto fought sergio 4 years ago maravilla would have annihilated cotto.
Well said!
zz092083 I was thinking the same thing. I think Sergio made a mistake of fighting Chavez Jr. first before Cotto. I believe Sergio knee start to breakdown after that fight.
Would've, could've, should've Cotto beat him fair and square. Give credit were credit due. If Sergio was at 100% then he shouldn't have took the fight
god hand Sergio Martinez is a great fighter i can't deny that he just got bested on this night. No excuses he lost and you should get over it
Justin Velazquez No excuses? Martinez wasnt at 100% or even 50%! He wanted a pay day thats why he dodged his mandatory GGG for so long for this fight and why cotto continues to dodge GGG, Quillin, andy lee, and even a LMW lara.
Speed, precision, power and a warriors heart.
Martinez and Marquez suffer from having weak knees, both have good chins (JMM has a great one) but with weak knees they always go down, notice how they get up afterwards completely fine and win.
Holy shit you're right man, these are my two favorite fighters by the way, especially because they get up from the canvas to beat up their opponents.
Yeah it’s the knees. It’s due to weak quads and poor hamstring flexibility.
More so a balance issue than anything.
@@renzopeterson153 yeah, due to bad knees. They've both had well documented knee issues
I also met Sergio Martinez great guy. He was one of my favorites loved the Williams fights thought he deserved a win the first fight. Loved when he put a beating in the punk Chavez Jr.
Sergio Maravilla Martinez gran campeón.
Cotto beat this pussy
Braveschop1 On*
I’ll never forget Sergio’s fight against Chavez jr. he fought a perfect fight.
I have watched this so many times, martinez indeed a true warrior.
I wish I had seen more of Sergio what a great fighter
great champ, always loved watching fights
Sergio Martinez is underrated. Look at all he accomplished entering boxing at a late age.
Why does it matter what edge u start boxing everyone should be treated the same 💯🥊
Robert Timms facts and they be ones that have that dog in them form being doubted because they the started late
let me tell you guys something now... Had Martinez's knees had not of failed him he is the best middle weight in this AREA period!! No one wanted to fight Paul Williams and he beat him twice in my eyes. Healthy Martinez would of beat Cotto, Canelo, and Triple G the man was just gifted! If he isnt a future hall of famer something is wrong!
king djoser him vs Golovkin would've been a fantastic fight
that's true, if canelo even couldn't with lara, a boxer who moves around a lot, imagine sergio fighting canelo at that time, would've played with him like He did with JCC
Those fights were something that truly would have been beautiful to see.
king djoser boy your crazy.
He’s a good boxer but doesn’t have half the skill of Saul or cottto, and Gennady has too good of a chin for Martinez, and Martinez has NO chin so Gennady would tear that ass up boy lol
he never had a chance against GGG or Canelo
One of the most entertaining boxer to watch of this era . Will gonna miss those days 👑
We will never have another greats like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez
simply the best
He retired he was one of my favorites
One of my favorite fighters. Exciting to watch and what an accomplishment to be boxing professionally at age 39!
Bro for me, my own personal opinion, Sergio Martinez is the greatest of all times just imagine if he would have started his career early like most boxers do, his age was the only factor from making him a mega super boxing star.
I agree. One of my favorites. Speed, stamina, and power.
Wouldn't hold against chavez after getting rocked. Fought it out. Legend
Sergio’s footwork and ring generalship in that fight was phenomenal!
still my favorite fighter of all time. goes down and gets back up for more
Greatest middle weight ever while in his prime, if his knee would have been good he would have went on alot longer
Not better than Roy Jones, but def one of the greats. I always wonder how great his career would've been if he'd started young like most fighters. He really didn't hit his stride until his late 20's/early 30's. I think, he could've been up there with the Roy Jones's, Ali's, and Sugar Ray Leonard's.
@@J-Hue i think if martinez would've started earlier he wouldn't become this good. Of course his technique would've been better but his style is efficient because of his risk taking. And thats something you see in the most late bloomers. That's why he's so successful
So Sergios greatest hits aint blocked in the UK, but Cottos is? WTF HBO? You make no sense.
You see Cotto is an exclusive fighter on this side of the hemisphere.
thanks for the memories!
He was a small middleweight also. He cleaned out the Jr Middleweight class and had no choice but to go to 160 where someone would fight him. Great fighter!
One of my favorite boxers. He never goes back down to his opponents.
Martinez will always be my favorite boxer of all time.
No one was better than this guy
A 32 year old Sergio beats all middle weights fighting today, with exception of GGG and Canelo. Great fighter!
Martinez must be included in the top 10 best middleweights of all time although he started to decline after the Chavez jr fight but still had a spectacular career during his prime and overall. He fought his heart out and toe toe and it's cool that he was also a good technical southpaw boxer/puncher/brawler and can do all three fighting style in one and the footwork was on point
That straight left/ hook was lethal loved watching that winning streak he was on.
one of my favorite fighter. Sad he's in different era!
It's gonna be awesome see him face today's greatest boxers..
An Absolute monster
I have respect for fighters like Martinez and Timothy Bradley. They don't back down and give the audience what they want to see. They don't go holding when they're about to get knocked out, they keep brawling.
My favorite style of all time
Maravilla, nació de abajo demostró de lo que es capaz, gran persona..🇦🇷👍
Sergio was great
Great champ
One of my favorite fighters.
Met him yesterday...dude was badass!!!him and bhop in there prime wudve been great
Tremendo peliador mis respetos !💪🏼
@migel Martinez,purro Martinez!
Oh boy this takes me back to my late teens/ early twenties watching this. especially the chavez jr. fight and the build up with 24/7
this are the best highligts compilations ever
Still my all-time favorite fighter!
Martinez's two fights with Williams were Epic o_o
HBO was the Goat
Martinez was never the same after blowing out his knee in the Chavez Jr. fight
Considering that he started at 20, it’s sad to know his body gave up on him so early
Que espectáculo!!! Gran peleador Maravilla.
i got into martinez when i seen him fight a few times but he was already older .. wish id have seen em when he was younger
Sergio was a no nonsense fighter. Always gave 110% in his fights, just goes out there and banged....mad respect👊
Great fighter, wish Sergio would’ve started earlier in boxing. The real boxer!!!
Martinez was a beast and his fights were entertaining to watch i miss his fights 👊👊his trainer always wore sunglasses like 😎 this lol and he beat the crap out of chavez jr
Greatness
Legend
Him vs Cotto was a fight where I didn't want either of them to lose 😪
Cotton is a bitch only after his surgery
He was so naturally talented in the ring. It sucks he was screwed over by the idiots at the WBC and Chavez Jr. He was very underrated in my opinion and often got looked over. His age really hurt him in the long run along with his knee injuries. It was hard to see him take a pounding from Cotto.
+Irvin Morales I think Martinez would have defeated Cotto But his leg injuries were constantly so he pretty much fought Cotto without his 100% Superior Footwork. Why do you think guys like Mayweather and Pacquiao are the best boxers in the world? That's because of there Superior Footwork.
Well true but what really made Sergio, Floyd, and Manny special was their ability to adapt quickly to their situation.
Irvin Morales yes most definitely. He also had an Amazing Boxing IQ compare to the average Boxer. Not to many fighters can adapt quickly like they can. Especially under pressure.
Irvin Morales didn't he get screwed by the WBO also??
I'm not so sure about that.
marvelous!
abolutely love him
The best middleweight period
The way he fought his way out of round 12 against Chavez no holding no running what a legend
Martinez has come along way since he was defeated early in his career against Margarito. I remember seeing him fighting over here in the UK in 2003, i never thought he would go on to achieve what he has.
Whilst i thought Murray was very unlucky against him Sergio's career goes to show that hardwork can be rewarded. I hope he wins tonight and i'm sure it will be an entertaining fight.
Sergio Martinez is inspiration to every race. 20 years before starting boxing. SMH
Sergio Martinez at 36 was in his peak of his career. I think he could’ve beat GGG if he boxed him just like he beat Julio Cesar Chavez jr. but by the timing GGG was raising Martinez was falling there was no way Sergio could beat GGG at age 39 or 40 that knee injury with Chavez jr ruined him.
恐ろしいパンチの速さ!
スピード、パワーもあってバランスがいい、パンチが強い。
We have the same name and I’m going to sign up for a boxing gym pretty soon this dude is a huge inspiration 🙏🏼
Que polenta y que encantó tenía Martínez grande flaco!!
To me the respect that joe calzaghe gets is what Martinez should have received this man started boxing late and went toe to toe with Paul Williams, destroyed Kelly pavlik absolutely out classes Chavez jr who out weighed him by two divisions if this guy was in his prime now Canelo would NEVER fight this man once he hurt his knees in the Chavez fight he was never the same
Great fighter
Legitimate champion of the world, true
One of the BEST of XXI Century, whiteout doubts. And very very intelligent
Him and Lara are my favorite ✊🏿
2010-2012 Sergio would beat Canelo without any stress and would make a very competitive fight with GGG, maybe even get the decision.
Favorite boxer, a cult classic
On the ring pound for pound list as no2 and no3 for years
Number 1 to me
Rip HBO 🥊
My fav fighter of my lifetime, his last few fights shouldnt of happened he couldnt even stand up against cotto
Man..... what a career.
Always wanted to watch a fight between Maravilla Martinez vs Pride of Wales Calzaghe. Would have been a banger, can't even say who is think would win.
If he was healthy against cotto would be a different story
He is a special fighter no doubt very competitive in any fighter in history
2nd Best of this era
