He’s not royal or anything. He’s just a politician from a wealthy family with ‘good breeding’ and connections. The political party isn’t mentioned but he wears blue and his campaign materials are blue, blue tie etc which would suggest he’s an MP (Member of Parliament) for the Conservative Party which are definitely seen as a little more stuffy and traditional. A lot of upper class British families are VERY class conscious and snobby. The political aspect does play a part in the plot - it controls Henry’s entire life and personality! The ‘breeding always wins’ part and calling Ian a mixed race mongrel is VERY on point for an upper class British boy to say.
The whiplash from hearing them repeatedly say that they went out of their way to make sure that this man does not know that his daughter exists while also hearing them complain about how he never comes to see her or "steps up" in her life is like astronomically ridiculous
We're very lucky with how quick Daphne trusted a complete stranger in a foreign country this didnt turn into a Taken/Hostel situation. lol Great video!
"she notices a guy playing a poorly written song on the guitar" i love how casual your comedy is and it just hits every time. also, i'd love to see you review aquamarine if you've ever seen it, i think i watched it about a million times when i was younger
as a girly who grew up desperately wanting to see and spend time with their dad, and also one who has a lifelong crush on Colin Firth - yes, yes, and more yes! this is an absolute childhood favourite!
This and Amanda in She's The Man had an unbelievable chokehold on my young mind. Colin Firth dancing still lives in me rent free. But even as a child hearing she ends up going to Oxford of all places made me think "Ah yes, money truly does get you anywhere"
@@sassygrilledcheese I could have sworn she was 18, I draw this conclusion because that rando girl at the wedding asked her what college she was going to, mentioning the one she herself was going to in the fall. Plus at the end she was working on applications like there's a deadline even though it's still summer. I could be wrong, it's been a minute since I watched it and maybe this is what I claim as canon in my mind so I don't get hung up on it. 🤔 Either way, first video of yours I watched and I adore it, you got a new subscriber! 😀
@@letrailhall-nance9189 yay thank you! Yea idk! I’m looking online and I’m seeing mixed conclusions??? She def graduated high school. Oh well 🤷 THANK YOU SO MUCH!! more videos to come. I appreciate you watching and subbing! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ugh I am in love with your commentary style - but I think it’s your personality more than anything!!! I watched “The Sleepover” first, and have been on a binge of your vids!
Ian's reaction is annoying. He's there just to make this weird y2k how-you-changed comment. I liked that they didn't choose to go the route where she gives up all her changes for her father and makes a scene infront of those royals. She makes a scene, but kinda privately and cuz of different reasons. It was a nice thing imho.
Ian is on my list of top 10 most annoying love interests in the 2000s. I still think she could have just waited until after the party instead of making her dad feel bad during an obvious misunderstanding! Also no one was forcing her to be royal she was literally only supposed to be there for the summer lol. Thanks for watching!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Unapologetically love all the 00s Amanda movies, they’re just so silly and fun. This was one of my faves with Sydney White and of course She’s the Man 😂❤
First time viewer. I liked that you didnt blame the father for not knowing she existed! Some of us were abandoned by parents who were in our lives lol. I know they couldnt have us hating one of the parents through the movie but you pointing out where the mother kept saying crap is so true. Anyways loved the video and plan to watch another one right now
"Just send her back..." Hmmm I wonder how many stamps it would take to return 1 helpless child back to Sender📮 🧐 Oh and the award for movie mom that takes zero responsibility goes to the mom in 3 men & a baby.
I watched this in year 6 at school! One of my favourite teachers said she thinks I would really it and I did!. I swear it was such a formative part of my psyche. To this day I love this movie! I could recite most of it 😂 and it implanted the idea in my head that a young woman can do anything she wants, like travel alone to a foreign country and have a adventure. It's dreamy and funny and Daphne is great! I love Henry's mum too. Plus, Colin Firth 🙂👌

@@sassygrilledcheese She was enormously famous in the UK, particularly in the 70s, 80s and 90s, everywhere on TV - presenting loads of different talk shows and gameshows and stuff. But these days it's an increasingly obscure reference, even here, never mind from an American .
See this is why i still watch early to mid 2000's movies and late 90's movies. So camp, so ridiculous, so enjoyable and so horrendously awful at certain points. Questionable in many criticial areas but so darn good its bad. Im not ashamed to say that i dont consider myself a cinophile, i like movies that make me happy too much 😭

@@sassygrilledcheese as a Brit, it’s actually a good portrayal of a politician BUT he’s way to handsome and nice for a Tory 🤣
To be fair, there is a scene where they discuss their position in line for the Throne, so there's definitely some royal lineage.
@@mitchc.2660 ehhh I mean…. It’s very VERY far down the line. Not enough to be classed as actual royals.

Don't forget the sister called "Parsnip" who "doesn't go out much" 😂
Why didn’t we ever meet parsnip!
Because she doesn’t get out much! 😂
