I’m still wishing that gta 6 will have a small, detailed world like 4, but I know rockstar is making it 800 square miles or whatever so they can brag about it to the press
I agree - although the city does still feel sizeable, they definitely sacrificed rural areas that surround NYC to make Liberty City feel more like a metropolis. I think Los Santos in 5 was way too small, they should’ve cut that whole other part of the map out, it’s so uninteresting, there’s literally a trailer town and then some ass end town with next to nothing to do in it, then miles of greenery; but there’s no hunting to do or anything within this greenery. There’s only so many times I want to climb that mountain or break into the army base. No joke you can reach the airport from the Vinewood sign in like 3 to 4 minutes with a fast vehicle - if they’d just concentrated on making Los Santos huge it would’ve been a better choice overall.
@@maxpayneful4328 Los Santos literally takes up a quarter of the map! The only part of GTA IV that really felt unique was Broker and Algonquin. I agree, Paleto Bay was a little uninspired but Mount Chiliad, the Alamo Sea, Sandy Shores and the surrounding Blaine County is just brimming with things to see and do. Don’t get me wrong, I love both games but GTA IV really needed a couple of biomes like the Pine Barrens or Long Island.
The sound design in GTA IV is honestly amazing. I was completing the Francis McReary mission shooting the gang in the apartment buildings and I noticed the sounds of the indoor gunshots being echoed and having more bass. Honestly 10/10 game
GTA IV has loads of realistic and immersive features. When you shoot tyres they gradually deflate, police officers will spawn in raincoats when it rains and you can pick up cans, bricks, etc and throw them at things. It's a shame all these little things weren't in GTA V, I hope GTA VI returns to IVs realism.
I'm hopeful after RDR2 and the response that game got for it's realism that rockstar will add these features for publicity and PR alone. You couldn't escape the articles/videos about horse balls changing between warm and cold environments
Judging by how rockstar finally gave into the woke crowd and hired a bunch of diversity hires, I am willing to bet money GTA 6 will be the worst in the series.
The car wash fact is actually so cool, most people think that the writings on the walls are just there to add detail but sometimes they have actual gameplay mechanics. awesome
I finished this game probably 5 or 6 times, played hundrets of hours, but there, still stuff I've never seen. Crazy that a game from 2008 is more detailed than most of the games nowadays.
I love IV since I bought it back in high school, and there’re so many details that rockstar really put some efforts in it. For example, I’m a car guy, and I took so many times driving around the map, and man, I love the fact that you get to decide either leaving a car while the engine is running, or turning it off by holding the exit button, you could even heard the sound of hand brakes.

Wow Rob. You and the community have really suprised me with the stuff I REALLY DIDN"T KNOW about the game! And the editing is trully unique and very pleasant. Great job!
One of my favorite details is how easy it is to limit your body count. Unlike GTA V they don't just die instantly whehn you take their health to zero, if they can get up and wander around licking their wounds, they won't shoot at you, but they also don't get added to your body count. There's also pacifists in the game, which almost literally nobody mentions
Never knew about the buskers restoring health, I thought they only give a new ringtone for the player. Its awesome how GTA IV has that much level of attention-to-detail despite being an old game, goes to show that this game is very worthy of praise and appreciation. Welcome back, Rob! Quality content as always, keep it up! #keepGTA4alive #GTAIV
I had a car explode near Niko and knock me down with the flying tire, damaging health. Probly the most impressive and funniest moments of GTA4 gameplay.
I think what justifies the health increase when tipping the buskers might be that the health system in gta iv is not exclusively physical but mental aswell. So It's a fun way to look at it really.
When chased by the cops by car, if you stand in front of a pedestrian (kinda using it as a human shield) the cops in their car will not slam the pedestrian just to hit you, instead they get behind you (getting the ped out of their way) , trying not to hit the pedestrian and potentially save a civilian life.
These types of things always make me think: "Man, some person coded that. And probably most players don't even notice it." Imagine spending countless hours making the electrician kick the light into submission, just for that remarkable piece of animation to not be seen by many...
I've been waiting for your next video and didn't disappoint, it still blows me away how detailed and immersive GTA IV was for a 7th Generation 2008 game. Tremendous work!
there are things about GTA SA that i really loved. the setting, the variety, the world seeming so grand, the humor. then came IV and EfLC and they completely redefined what an open world game could feel like. they were the absolute pinnacle of GTA. V could have been the best of both worlds - but unfortunately it was just a step back. since then, RDR2 and the leaked VI material have given me some hope for the next installment, but R* / T2 will probably make many mistakes out of greed again (see GTAO). let's hope for the best.
Yes GTA4 is best in series overall imo. 2008 was a great year for gaming in general they had nice immersion and attention to details like Far Cry 2, MGS4, F3, DMC4, Dead Space etc etc and ofcourse GTA4.
Yes! Finally! Another banger from Internet Rob in years. I already know it's gonna be a banger. Pls make GTA TBOGT with mods. I've been waiting for that video for 200+ years and it's about time
This was an excellent lil video Rob. I’ve been playing this game since I was 13 years old and was surprised how much of this info was brand new to me. Very glad I found your channel recently. Easily one of the most creative and dedicated folks in the GTA community
Owned every GTA since 3 and this was the first I ever fully completed - I’ve found myself never really wanting to revisit it as I always felt I had already had the fullest experience of that game I was going to get, but this video has made me really want to commit to replaying it all these years later
So cool. This was always my favorite GTA, maybe because it really does the diversity of NY (Liberty) city so well, or because they got the lighting perfect at dusk and dawn. Going to boot it up and try to see some the details you mentioned. Thanks!
Rob you have a really special channel here my dude! I have done countless playthroughs and never noticed most of these! I guess things like the radio weather and time of day acknowledgements is so immersive that one doesn't even notice. A testament to how well crafted GTA IV is! Love your videos man, we can only hope for a remaster of this game one day with improved PC performance however that is unlikely.
Welcome back, Rob x Gah damn, I actually learned something new. Usually videos like these just say the same things over and over again, but I should've guessed that you'd actually put some real effort in, as you always do. Good work, my friend
I seriously dislike those videos that just copy from the findings of other people. But catsmackaroo, whatever57010, Alexander PolyAK, and BadgerGoodger are reliable for showcasing many genuine findings.
If they combined the small details of GTA IV, with the other small details of GTA V. Then added the physics of GTA IV & the hustle and bustle atmosphere of GTA V, it would be an absolutely perfect game.
The room at the top of the highrise that you use in a mission is also a great representation of destructible environments. I remember blowing off the sides of the pillars during the mission and always came back to wreak havoc. I don't remember the location exactly, but it's on the edge of Central Park towards Time Square, think it starts with an "M". On the roof there's a sitting area with a glass cover and a stairway down into the penthouse
GTAIV will never be surpassed in environmental immersion. Walking down the street in this game is like walking down a real street it's incredible. When it released, it absolutely blew everything else at the time out of the water in the open world shooter genre. The shooting is nearly terrible, but the driving and fighting are top notch in my opinion.
Great video! Reading the comments it's amazing to realize there's still so many GTA IV fans out there. One thing I have been wondering about myself since the release is the following. When driving around LC with the voice navigation on, occasionally the "pim-pom" turn signal given by the navigation is substituted with a vocal version. In your thousands of hours of playing this game have you gotten close to figuring out what is the reason behind this seemingly random behaviour? Seems like an easter egg to me, but I'm still wondering is there any more depth to the pattern of occurence?
Actually for most gta games, propane tanks are a good way to eliminate a lot of enemies at once, if you are lucky enough to find one in the correct spot.
I've seen the telephone repair guy only once and I honestly thought I just made it up in my head cause I've never seen them again even after years of playing the game.
This is still the most immersive open world I have ever been in. Every detail made it feel so lived in. You can browse the internet and watch actual tv shows in this thing for fuck sake
I’ve been playing this game since release, on multiple platforms. I never once saw the electrical repair man. Never even knew that was implemented. I’ve seen the delivery drivers, also when they’re unloading. To me this game just has the most detailed open world (next to RDR2) and considering its age just makes it all the more incredible.
I’m just replaying GTA IV now and this video makes me appreciate it even more. I don’t know what it is about GTA IV but it just feels more atmospheric and immersive.
This is by far the best “things you didn’t know” type videos ever, especially for a game I played a LOT. Don’t recall ever seeing the workers; never tried taking a convertible through a car wash; thought I knew everything about the ice cream van but certainly didn’t know about the cheat! I think I’ve donated to buskers but never knew about the ringtone; I did however have the pager ringtone from GTA III I believe, but I don’t recall how that was unlocked.
Actually there is a news report on the radio that talks about the seagulls. It says something to the effect of Burger Shot taking credit for there being more or less no seagulls in the city due to their introduction of mystery meat a couple of months ago. Found that out today while just cruising and listening to the radio in game.
GtaIV is the best gta, the car chases were realistic as opposed to arcadey. We used to get baked and do car chases in cinematic mode with the Dark Knight soundtrack Introduce a Little Anarchy in the background, lobbing grenades out the window at squads of cop cars. Good times

Yep. I and the blokes had a lot of fun driving a Huntley on that well-secluded skatepark
It's crazy after over a decade of playing the game I found skate parks that I had never known about. I remember knowing about that one under the bridge, but I found another one. I assumed there were only three but now I think there's upwards of 5 or so.
@@Blahsheep Damn, you all are making me want to play the game again, it's been a few years. I only remember 2 or 3, but I'm not surprised to hear there's more. I've always loved how Rockstar manages to hide so many things in their maps. To me, exploring and discovering new things is as much fun as the core gameplay.
That was one of the spots everybody went to with motorcycles back in the days online, it was so fun
Wow Rob. You and the community have really suprised me with the stuff I REALLY DIDN"T KNOW about the game!
And the editing is trully unique and very pleasant.
Great job!
I want more
Thanks Danio, it's nice to see you're still around btw.
Unbelievable how much attention to detail GTA 4 has... a game that's released in 2008 is still being further discovered! Great video, my man 😃
The more time goes by the more you appreciate stuff like this.
One of my favorite details is how easy it is to limit your body count. Unlike GTA V they don't just die instantly whehn you take their health to zero, if they can get up and wander around licking their wounds, they won't shoot at you, but they also don't get added to your body count. There's also pacifists in the game, which almost literally nobody mentions
you clowns just can't help yourselves but to bring up GTA V when this game comes up lol. GTA V was objectively a superior game by every metric

The amount of beauty and serenity in the game is amazing I’m downloading project birds right now. It’s such a subtle change to the game but I love it.
#keepGTA4alive
#GTAIV
I had a car explode near Niko and knock me down with the flying tire, damaging health.
Probly the most impressive and funniest moments of GTA4 gameplay.
Happened all the time in the first 2 Saints Row games lmao
I think what justifies the health increase when tipping the buskers might be that the health system in gta iv is not exclusively physical but mental aswell. So It's a fun way to look at it really.
to this date, GTA4 managed to capture the most realistic setting, scenery, story and overall unique experience. GTA5 did not do the same.
1 year and no comment? lemme fix that.
3:22 The Ice Cream truck playing the game's theme reminds me of those self-aware indie horror games when something isn't right
When chased by the cops by car, if you stand in front of a pedestrian (kinda using it as a human shield) the cops in their car will not slam the pedestrian just to hit you, instead they get behind you (getting the ped out of their way) , trying not to hit the pedestrian and potentially save a civilian life.
Dude that was actually amazing! I had no idea it had so many hidden details!
These types of things always make me think: "Man, some person coded that. And probably most players don't even notice it." Imagine spending countless hours making the electrician kick the light into submission, just for that remarkable piece of animation to not be seen by many...
0:21 When I first saw this npc I was surprised by level of detail and subtle storytelling which this game provides.
I've been waiting for your next video and didn't disappoint, it still blows me away how detailed and immersive GTA IV was for a 7th Generation 2008 game. Tremendous work!
thanks a bunch mate
Got this recommended randomly, glad I got it.
Really interesting how much details Rockstar packed into this game
welcome, thanks for giving it a watch mate.
there are things about GTA SA that i really loved. the setting, the variety, the world seeming so grand, the humor.
then came IV and EfLC and they completely redefined what an open world game could feel like. they were the absolute pinnacle of GTA.
3:00 I love that people are STILL making mods to help improve immersion in this game. L.O.V.E IT!
even after 400 hours of GTA 4, i learned something new today. thanks Rob!
perfect, it was my pleasure mate.
Yes!
Thanks!
7:02 spat my coffee out 😂
Rob you have a really special channel here my dude!
GTA IV's immersion levels are off the chart, you just have to allow yourself to sink into that world... thanks for all the kind words.
GTA IV is the most realistic. Honestly feels like real life - Hanging with Jacob, Roman & Packie!
Wow, I never seen those delivery drivers, thought that this scenario is broken or unused, but damn, cool stuff!
6:40 funfact: you can hear the radio saying that jay norris died. (After you complete friend request in gta v)
GTA IV is the best game in the last 20 years change my mind
I agree
Need to play more games
Damn this shocks me😳..the amount of work they put into this game is insane.✨
Excellent work Rob ❤️
0:36 this line aged perfectly 🤣
Virus virus virus🤣
Welcome back, Rob x
Gah damn, I actually learned something new.
Don't forget the details and features only GTA SA had too.
This game hides so many secrets and details... it's fascinating the good care they took for
4:16 ah yes, cyberpunk 2077 cars
7:20 the mental state of the average londoner
6:30 this rain had to pass through 3rd world countries to get here lmfao. The humor never gets old.
4:45 I laughed on this part haha
7:08 Vsauce be like
Trip Michael here
GTAIV will never be surpassed in environmental immersion.
GTA IV will never die, it is too good 🌺
Yeah, it happens all the time. It’s just a little detail to make you go “huh? did I hear that right?” and it’s so funny.
Actually for most gta games, propane tanks are a good way to eliminate a lot of enemies at once, if you are lucky enough to find one in the correct spot.
So you basically means that IV removing the tanks was a good idea because it was hard to find in the other games.
1:49 Fun fact: A lot of the bones in displayed dinosaur skeletons are fake. They are however made from the real ones.
Fossilized bones or just straight up replica?
Shows Rockstar doesn't joke about their effort in adding details
I've seen the telephone repair guy only once and I honestly thought I just made it up in my head cause I've never seen them again even after years of playing the game.
damn thats insane
This is still the most immersive open world I have ever been in. Every detail made it feel so lived in. You can browse the internet and watch actual tv shows in this thing for fuck sake
I’ve been playing this game since release, on multiple platforms. I never once saw the electrical repair man. Never even knew that was implemented. I’ve seen the delivery drivers, also when they’re unloading. To me this game just has the most detailed open world (next to RDR2) and considering its age just makes it all the more incredible.
Why this game will always be in my opinion the best gta. Details to the world, destruction of the world, and the npcs were the best
This guy's videos just never dissapoint
5:52 Finally at least some honest morning show radio hosts. 😉
1:36 not the damn balls i always respected that thing since i got gta 4 lol
2:35 that boat called the Octopus can also be found in Los Santos in GTA 5
0:53 Made my day hahahahahaha
And 7:00 "Lots of sun but you don't need a dumb bitch to tell you that" 🤣
Now I love this game even more…My favourite gta by far
editing is immaculate youve got a new subscriber!
GTA 5 having my favorite driving and playing mechanics have made it hard to go back to iv
The Best Gta ever made... so far
7:40 damn Lester was a lot different back then....
4:35 lol, even these placeholders in GTA 4 were done better than in Cyberpunk.
Actually there is a news report on the radio that talks about the seagulls. It says something to the effect of Burger Shot taking credit for there being more or less no seagulls in the city due to their introduction of mystery meat a couple of months ago. Found that out today while just cruising and listening to the radio in game.
How did no one notice that it’s laslow from gta v talking at 3:38
Lazlow isn't from V, he's been in grand theft auto for 20 years.
4:06 Classic Film!
GTA 4 is and will always be way better than GTA 5 in terms of realism.
Best GTA to date and no one will convince me otherwise
GtaIV is the best gta, the car chases were realistic as opposed to arcadey. We used to get baked and do car chases in cinematic mode with the Dark Knight soundtrack Introduce a Little Anarchy in the background, lobbing grenades out the window at squads of cop cars. Good times
2:55 MUSIC?!
2:30 song ?
i want to know as well
