Hi Jenny, I new to Taobao and have made my 1st order. However, there are a few things I'm not too sure about how taobao works.
1. Does taobao not email you an order confirmation / recipe ?
2. Are you only allowed to track your package from your taobao acct?
3. Do i get nonfiction on each stage of the delivery?
4. Am I allowed to change the shipping address after placing the order / paying ?

When I first ordered from taobao I tested by ordering $1.00 tape. And I didn’t know that they are going to ask for shipping after order delivered to the cargo warehouse. And they asked for shipping to the USA CA $14.00. I was confused and didn’t pay for that and I just wasted $1.00 for nothing. And Im not gonna regret because that was just test.

Hi Jenny, thanks for this video. It explained about a lot about international postage and assisted me in receiving the goods, as I found it difficult to understand when the seller said the goods were placed in the warehouse. All good now and paid for shipping and goods on their way.😀

Awesome guide @Jennyjzhou but for 3:19 timestamp , it seems the shipping wording has changed now (especially on the Taobao app) :(
It's mostly the same, but there's a lot more options now. I'll try to explain them (I'm Chinese so hopefully you'll trust me)
There's still 空运 (air shipping) and 海运 (sea shipping). You might see 菜鸟 (usually first two characters, at least for me), which is the shipping company.
There's also 直邮 and 集运. 直邮 is the shop/seller sending the package directly to you (I don't really recommend this option since not all the sellers are willing to do this for international, and it's a lot more expensive). 集运 is when all your packages are first sent to the warehouse, then to your address.
Then there's 经济 vs 标准. 标准 is a bit faster than 经济. According to Taobao, it's 10-13 business days for 经济 and 8-10 business days for 标准.
I'll give an example: 菜鸟直邮空运经济. 菜鸟 (characters 1&2) is the company, 直邮 (3&4) is from seller directly to you, 空运 (5&6) is air shipping, and 经济 (7&8) is the slower option. The order of the shipping options are usually (top left to right, bottom left to right): direct/air/slower, direct/air/faster, warehouse/air/slower, warehouse/air/faster, sea shipping (only one option for sea shipping).

Not Jenny but I live in China and shop form taobao! No, you don’t need to know any warehouse or shipping company to order from China. Since it will be sent by plane you will get a number and a link to track your order

hiya! there is usually a list on taobao detailing the prohibited items. Off the top of my head it is liquids (including makeup), perishables, branded items, flammable, wood, etc.!

That simply means 'waiting for buyer to combine'- you need to select the items which you're planning to ship to your address from the warehouse as explained at 6:37

a lot of people use shopping services but recently, it is possible to order directly from taobao. Though I think there is a list of countries/areas that they can ship to? I'm not sure, you have to check if they can ship to your place.

This video was so helpful, thank you! I have a question: I accidentally consolidated a single item into a shipment order before my other items had arrived at the warehouse. I haven't paid for international shipping so I don't think they have actioned it yet. It gives me the option to 取消集运, will this allow me to redo the consolidation with the other items, or will it cancel that entire order? I don't know any Chinese, so it's a bit unclear to me! :)
update: it's all good now, looks like they automatically cancelled the international shipment since I hadn't paid yet

yes you can order separately! i think the items can stay at the warehouse for maximum 15 days before you have to pay extra. it will display next to your item how much longer :)

yeah you usually have to bear the cost of the returns
one thing I could tell, most Chinese are probably like the process of shopping to that extent, that taobao intentionally make it a long, game-like process, so you have to spend quite a bit of time on the website. for me personally, it could be made Much more simple and efficient, if the interface were minimalistic!
