We were commenting here that we are surprised that ye don't wear work gloves around the farm. I started wearing them a number of years ago and managed to convince the boss man to do the same. Find that they save the hands a lot especially when doing the silage plastic, handling cattle and cleaning crap around the yard. I see that Adrian on Ifarmwefarm wears them all the time too.

When rolling the plastic up roll it under itself so the water can drain off the side, the way you rolled it, it will hold the water, and the plastic you have rolled will fall

Great content as always Phil, may i ask why the bulls haven't been de-horned, i would be concerned about horn damage to each other and even staff, plus looks like could be an issue with the feed barrier as they grow.

4 o`clock pm, so the most get filled up before they go to be milked . This gives the rest room to eat before milking, Once the last row is in parlour the first cows are released to eat some more , get a drink of water , and are mostly resting in their bedded cubicles by the time milking is finished, this gives plenty of space for the rest of the herd to eat their fill. Fed is available all night, at 6 o`clock the next morning I push up the silage and so the cycle begins again for milking . This allows me to do the milking , fed the calves etc, unrushed. The advantage is, I`m about mid morning and lunch time to push up silage , encouraging intake.
DMI enhances liveweight gain/ or milk yield.
Nutritioinist put me on to this system, works very well. Thank Phil.

Cows only sleep 4 hours a day and is mainly made up of “naps” that happens at both day and night. That being said they do mainly sleep at night, but not a big concern. So I wouldn’t worry too much about sleep.
Would be interesting if you put a time lapse of the cows at day and night. Just to see if it’s obvious that they move and eat more at day than night. Or maybe curtain times of day (maybe the hottest parts) they more more. Could be an interesting little experiment.
