When officers are involved in a shooting like this. I assume they get put on administrative leave but I’m curious how this process works. Are you placed on that for a set amount of time, do you need to pass any mental evaluation, perhaps desk duty for a short while. Always was curious what the next steps are for officers in this type of situation.
I'm pretty sure its just Intel the investigation is over to make sure the officer did everything correctly, and I think he would just fully be off work not on desk duty but I don't know for sure
Administrative leave lasts usually until the DA makes a case determination. A lot of larger departments the Officer has to be cleared by the department shrink.. not sure about smaller departments.
My dad is retired Captain with Abq police and it historically was a Standard 3 days paid leave, then a light duty return with several counseling/training sessions before being put back on patrol. He retired in 11 before the dept had bodycams
Question: How would you, as a police officer, ever get over the fear of having to pursue someone with a gun who is already (or who might start) shooting at you? I would be frozen in my tracks or running away for sure. So is it that the type of personalities that go into policing are courageous types already, or does it happen with training? Or is it both? I don’t think I would ever be able to do the work our LE professionals do- training or not.
Not sure it's training. To my knowledge police training is nowhere near military training, and in the military, it's definitely training. I would think it's experience from what I've seen and been told. I've seen plenty of officers in their first gunfights on these channels, some have the ability to keep their cool, others lose it a little afterwards. Mostly it all happens pretty fast, not just gun fights, but any serious accident or things like that. No time to really think about it, and if you've done it before it's not so shocking. Humans can get used to anything. Know a couple of guys that were police as well as ex military and they pretty much put it that way too. They would say that attitude definitely plays a part as well. I've never been either police or military, so take that for what it's worth. Had some experience with workplace accidents that seems about a rough parity though, they were life threatening.

Administrative leave lasts usually until the DA makes a case determination. A lot of larger departments the Officer has to be cleared by the department shrink.. not sure about smaller departments.
They make them repeat "Cells within cells interlinked" (sorry, litlle Bladerunner 2049 joke there).
My dad is retired Captain with Abq police and it historically was a Standard 3 days paid leave, then a light duty return with several counseling/training sessions before being put back on patrol. He retired in 11 before the dept had bodycams
Is there another “Albuquerque” somewhere that I’m unaware of?
Solid work. Glad you're all safe.
Charged with negligent use of a weapon. 😂
That area looks like a dangerous place to live.
What a nice place to live. I bet its safe to live there. sarc.
Did anyone see the red balloon in the sewer drain at 2:55 ??
The way that one officer said oh sh*t he must've felt the air pressure of a round whizzing past his face or something I bet.
that was extremely close. good thing that officer knew not to bum rush a hot zone
I was surprised to find that Albuquerque is one of the most dangerous cities in the country, right in there with Detroit and Memphis.
So glad hes ok. Much love good work
I like this channel very much, but I am disappointed that it cannot translate Chinese subtitles
I want to see the rest of that!
Knowing Albuquerque he’ll be out on house arrest if he isn’t already.
That dude got lucky for now... He just disappeared in thin air
No he didn't. Did you read the dropdown description
Reading is fundamental.
