Given that I bought this album as soon as the record store opened on day of release, I agree 100% with Geoff's last minute decision to have Layne rip the solo on violin. I cannot imagine *any* human voice getting close to doing justice to this iconic solo- it *must* be a string instrument of some kind. I was very tense leading up to the solo when I first watched this.... but when the violin was thrown in from stage left, I smiled widely & relaxed!! In this case it was a #GreatChoice, & Mike is correct in saying it's a *bonus* ;)
Of course you get the occasional reactor complaining about instruments in what is described as a capella. I try to point out that most of the song is unacompanied. :)
I appreciated the Mike’s reaction - he got it! Although you are entitle to your opinion and reaction, Ginger, I was also disappointed by the lack of engagement and negativity (now THAT was strange). This rendition was incredible, and you were distracted by your goats, which made this reaction really hard to watch. These musicians work so hard to bring joy to our lives, and they should have the respect they deserve.
Cheating? On a cover? Which had the instrumental there? It was only a few measures but needed to be there. Geoff did the arrangement for this and had designed in a guitar passage for Layne and at the last minute he asked Layne if he'd do it with the violin and the end of the passage was hitting the high notes of Eli, J None and Cesar. It's only the 2nd time VP has used an instrument - the other time was 3 yrs ago in Warriors (Imagine Dragons). J None played a few short lines in it as well. Right now J None whose voice you liked is currently serving in the US Navy and when he's on leave he comes back home and does a video, short and or mini to keep his hand in. Those voices together are amazing.
I'm with Mike, it was acapella with a bonus. We love VioLayne! This cover has broken almost every reactor. I'm a little disappointed that you didn't seem to like it; but to each his own. In the meantime I'm going to binge this song a dozen more times. ✌️❤️🥕🎻
Do we care if it’s cheating if it’s VioLayne? No, we do not! At all. Not even a little bit. More, please!!! As I understand it Geoff’s arrangement originally called for the guitar solo to be sung, but shortly before recording day Geoff asked Layne to see what he could do with his violin. To me the violin took an already amazing cover to the next level.
Mike, you slay me! You KNOW what Ginger DOESN'T KNOW and play Joe Cool on the right so we mostly watch her react. It's a fantastic arrangement, IMO. The more the group swaps participants, especially since Earle's departure, Layne's talents, and brilliance shines. I've always appreciated his beatboxing alongside Geoff's vocal capabilities, but, DANG!!! Hands down, one of my fave aca groups!
Watch Geoff's latest: Sound of Slince and you'll know he isn't human. He's an angel. :) If I hear one more person complain that having an instrumental break in an otherwise a capella piece is cheating I might just explode.
Ginger, both Pentatonix and Home Free have also used instruments in a few of their covers, so stop the whining. Mike is right; certain songs can benefit from such flourishes of instrumention, For the very most part, it's acapella. I have listened to 20 other reactors to this Voiceplay cover, and not ONE said anything about cheating. How petty can you be?
The term "a cappella" , like damn near all music terms, is loose and fluid and subject to interpretation. Originally, it had nothing to do with its current connotations. VioLayne Rules!
Hi Mike and Ginger. Please react to more Avi Kaplan. I would like to suggest a fan favorite called Change on the Rise. Words do not do this song justice and the first time I heard and watched the video I was a little dumbstruck. Avi's lyrics and his voice go straight to the soul. I saw him in concert last Summer and the fans get pumped up when he performs it. The song has also been on a few television shows. I think its inspirational, emotional and pertinent to many things today.
Meh. Sorry, but this sounds a bit soulless to me. The appeal of this song for me was always how it sounded like it was being ripped from the depths of his soul. This song should be rough. Don’t get me wrong, the vocals are fantastic, it’s just not right for this song imho. This song belongs in a revival, not a church.
that was a poor version of a magnificent song, to be honest. and then the violin. no, thanks. when i decide to do acappella, then no instruments please.

Twice. Exactly twice Layne has pulled out his violin. almost 3 years ago for Warriors, and now this. It's not enough. I LOVE Layne's violin playing.

Absolutely #Violayne. Perfect. Thank you Geoff for this arrangement.
Mike is right, Ginger you’re wrong. That was a capella with the bonus of a VioLayne.

I was joking. The violin was great - G
@@MikeandGinger I’m glad you enjoyed it. Just agreeing that it might be cheating-and that it’s OK with me if they cheat. LOL

These guys are just sooooo good. Loved everything about this one 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I believe you are trawling the algorithm.
Technically VioLayne is cheating but so is every time Pentatonix beatboxer Kevin breaks out his cello.
Cheating or bonus, I'm all in for VioLayne!!
I don’t care if you think it was cheating it was amazing
Please do a reaction video of Geoff's new solo cover ( Till Then ) . It is amazing.

That's a lot of bananas. How long will they last hanging???? Oh yeah REN. HI REN. ITS A MASTERPIECE
We’ll be getting to that one soon. The bananas usually take about 2 weeks to ripen
Great reaction
"open mind for a different view" - perhaps you should look at it differently if you feel it's cheating... #VioLayneForever
It was a joke- G

Cheat or cut out the guitar solo completely. 🤔 Cheat.

Enjoyed your reaction except for Ginger repetitively looking off to the side. I can't know what was going on of camera, but it was off-putting.
Ginger.... maybe focus on the video and not what's distracting you to your right. Then you might appreciate it better
