    I used to play this on the SNES back in the 90s and it was pretty good translation from the arcade to a home system all things considered. The graphic and music were close to the arcade and the game play intensity was spot on. The only thing missing was the scaling effect and I really did not miss it that much.

    I remember playing this on the SNES. But unlike the original, most ports of this game, including the AES version of this game, had the fatalities removed and blood changed to a different color or none at all. The reason that SNK did this is because they don't want any controversies similar to Mortal Kombat over here in the U.S. It is still a good version of the game despite it doesn't have the cut in half fatalities and blood in it.

    SNK, the Holy Grail of 2-D fighters. Samauri Shodown, World Heroes, Fatal Fury, and so many others were some of the best times I had playing fighters. Sure the SNK bosses were cheap and unbeatable, but two player games kept the fun going when the game became unbalanced, and it did quite often. Takara's home port wasn't half bad either.

      The 16 bit consoles weren't arcade hardware, and no way could retain all the frames that the arcade version had. There's even more animation frames cut out of the Genesis version, even win poses there have less frames in them. Some like Haohmaru's aren't even complete win poses, he doesn't even bow to his opponent after a win like you see in this version, and the arcade version.

    Considered the "small" size of 32megs, it's a well done port with good, colorful graphics, also the majority of the sounds and overall game content is still included (the Neo Geo original has 118megs, so it's no contest). You have the outzoomed view all the time, some missing animations and cutscenes and some censoring, but the typical feeling and gameplay of the original is still there. The 24megs Genesis port on the other hand has the inzoomed view all the time, which I would prefer, but Earthquake and even some moves are missing, also the gameplay isn't as good and responsive like the SNES version. Takara did a good job with the convertion, just like most of the time.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 Рік тому +1

      There's a lot more missing to the Genesis version than Earthquake and his stage, trust me. Those zoomed in sprites came in at a hefty price, a dear price that involved removing a LOT of content.

    While the NEO GEO version was made for this game, it was way to expensive during that time. So it was either the SNES or Genesis. The SNES version is miles better mostly because it’s a complete game with all characters and movesets. I could care less about the graphics, no blood, and no zooming cause this game already looks pretty great on it’s own.
    Gameplay and features is all it matters to me. And since Genesis is missing a character and stages, there is no reason to get that version unless you’re a graphics maniac.
    SEGA fanboys will always say that their graphics are the best and that Earthquake is boring or not needed. Which is not a really good excuse to have cut content from the Arcade.
    SNES wins.

      You won't believe it but once I got labeled as a "clown" in a Spanish videogame forum by the administrator because he got enraged when I decided to end the stupid debate about what version was better by listing all the pros and contras of the two versions. I did it honestly and the Snes version won by far.
      He was a huge Sega fanboy and he couldn't bear the "check mate". That ended with me leaving the forum due to the cult-like environment. Nobody likes getting labeled as a "clown" in the profile just for arguing logically. That's insane. I knew that the next step was banning me so I decided to leave before that to not let him feel the pleasure of kicking me out. But the truth had been written down and proved: the Snes version was better.
      That was around 2005. And now one only has to come to these videos to see the Sega fanboys still trying to convince themselves about the impossible.
      It's a common trait in the Sega fanboys: they don't follow logic. They just keep saying "Sega version is better" without looking the evidence against that, which is obvious.
      They do so with all the ports of all games. I don't know why Sega attracts that bigotry. Specially when it comes to the Megadrive/Genesis they get specially fanatical and mind-blind. Maybe they need that attitude to compensate the shortcomings of their favourite console, like a man with sexual complexes about his private parts usually tries to compensate them with a boastful attitude.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 3 роки тому +3

      @@asamiyashin444 It's because their favorite company got waxed by Nintendo, and Sony, in every console generation. Sega could never get the generation victory in any generation of consoles they were involved in. They still think the console war is alive, and that one day Sega will surpass Nintendo in console sales. For them, they are bitter, very bitter that once the SNES started hitting full gear, the Genesis could no longer compete with it (and hence why the 32X and Sega CD, both failures, came to be). SNES worldwide sold over 9 million units more than the Genesis, with Europe helping Sega to close the gap somewhat after Sega got their asses handed to them in America, and got destroyed in Japan. Without Europe, that sales gap would've been far, far wider.
      I too have made a list somewhere on UA-cam on the shortcomings of the Genesis version compared to the SNES and arcade versions, people want to call me a fanboy for it. But they don't know that I also collect Genesis games alongside SNES games, that would ruin their labeling of me seriously if they saw the games I own in person overall, especially for the SNES, Genesis, GB, and NES.
      To be honest the Genesis version is alright, but seems to not feel quite like the arcade version, while this SNES version is tons more faithful to the Neo Geo arcade original. The Japanese SFC version surprisingly has even more animation in the backgrounds than the US SNES version, and waaaaay more than the Genesis version has. They try to convince themselves that their version is better, and it's hard to find anyone that has studied both versions enough to actually tell the truth like you did. the SNES was a powerhouse, and you have sites like Sega Retro, who did a comparison, and absolutely pulled fake numbers out of their asses to give Sega a fake advantage in every area between the consoles.

Her comments section is a regular cesspool, so once got a plugin that allowed me to permanently block her channel on UA-cam from appearing in my feed, it was all good as I'd not have to ever see her trash content ever again. A lot of console know-nothings stay in her comments section, a regular assortment of idiots who still post Sega wins, when Sega games aren't even being compared. They complain about the Nintendo half of the console fanbase, yet I see nothing but class from that side of the spectrum, it's the Sega fanboys that are toxic as hell, what they claim the Nintendo fanboys to be.
      Of course if we are looking at the modern times, at Nintendo still in the console and games business, while Sega has become the bitch of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, making games for all 3.

So me owning a super nintendo get the super nintendo port and boy was I disappointed the sprites were small there was no a
    Scaling in-and-out but I wasn't surprized that because the superintendentt couldn't do that although arch of fighting was able to do that just barely it was limited to its color plate with samurai showdown was a big left down for the super nintendo believe it or not the Genesis version is much better and I'm sorry I didn't get it

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 Рік тому

      You sure about that with the Genesis version being better?
      Because boy oh boy when you realize how much content was cut from the Genesis version to get those bigger sprites, then you'd be heavily disappointed. The Genesis version is the second worst port, only to the disappointing Sega CD version, and maybe, MAYBE a hair ahead of the FM Towns version, which required a TON of RAM to get the game running at decent speed.
      Those who say the Genesis version is the better one, really don't bother to look at the things missing under the hood. It's the sports car that has no engine, no transmission, nothing. The SNES version is the economy car that has everything intact under the hood, and actually runs. A lot of people are absolutely blind to the things wrong with the Genesis, and there is a LOT wrong with it, just many stick their fingers in the ears, close their eyes, and go "nyah nyah nyah can't hear you" when you explain it to them.
      SNES version isn't perfect no (far from it), but does not bear the issues that plague the Genesis version.
      And LOL yes, the SNES can do scaling, look at the 2 Art of Fighting games to see it zoom in and out on sprites. I tell you, fanboys are blind as a bat.

      If you like a game with only 50% of the arcade content.
      Background detail, lost in a lot of stages, look at Hanzo's stage, the clouds do not move, nor does the fiery background
      Winposes for each character, limited to 1 when they have up to 3 in arcades, and 2 on SNES
      Character animation cut down considerably
      Everyone's ending chopped in half
      Amakusa in flame form after the 4th fight, GONE
      Amakusa transformation after beating him 1 round, GONE
      Character names not spoken when they win
      Ref/announcer speaks even less than the SNES version
      Medium attacks, GONE
      Earthquake, GONE
      Earthquake's stage, GONE
      SNES version:
      Bonus rounds don't change
      Ref/announcer has missing speech, but has more than the Genesis
      1 of each characters winposes got cut, but has more than the Genesis version
      I swear a lot of you are blind as shit to things like this. The small sprites can be less detailed sure, but thanks to them, a lot of the content is intact. Someone else mentioned the AoF games, but you must realize the details and animation in those games are not as numerous as Sam Sho, which has a LOT of animation in the game.

      The Mega/Sega CD was pitiful on this game, missing voices, more so than the SNES and Genesis versions, no ref to moderate the matches either. No thanks. You also forgot to mention one, the 3DO version. Fatal Fury Special on the MCD/SCD also suffered from lack of voices, plus Jubei's stage contained no paintings to smash, something the SNES versions of 2 and Special, and the version of 2 on the Genesis had. Plus atrocious load times, something people loved to complain about with fighting games and CD systems (unless it was Saturn and 4 MB carts, where loading was non-existent for the games that took advantage of it).
      These days the series can be played via Sam Sho Anthology on PS2, Wii, and PSP, which are the top versions due to being emulations of the AES versions. Plus the load times are quite minimal.

    • @Bloodreign1
      @Bloodreign1 6 років тому +2

      Neither Genesis nor SNES port were anything to write home about. You wanted to play Sam Sho in those days, you hunted down the arcade version, these days you hunt down the Anthology on PS2 or Wii (or you could import Sam Spirits Fencing Pack for PS1, with 1 and 2 on it). Genesis version was far from perfect, there's no defense for either 16 bit port, it came down to developers, Saurus did the Genesis port, and the company was a sister company to SNK (Art of Fighting 2 was done on SFC by Saurus as well, and it's splendid).Both 16 bit versions are fun to play, bias be damned, but neither will ever hold a candle to the MVS/AES. NGCD, PS1, or Anthology versions (which are AES versions emulated). I happen to own all ports save for the PS1 version (SFC, Genesis, Gameboy, PS2), and to say one 16 bit port is better than the other is blasphemy (other than World Heroes, but that one falls on Sega for having a 1 man team rush it out).
      Trust me, the Genesis version is no better off than the SNES version, missing attacks, less background detail, no intro, no win portraits for the characters, only 1 win pose per character with weapon in hand, like Nakoruru, who doesn't twirl her blade and have Mamahaha land on it during the first round, Haohmaru has 2 win poses (one is unique to this game, but could be an incomplete animation as he doesn't bow to his fallen opponent like he should
      ), but should have 3, plus a weaponless one (and one without, SNES had two to three win poses per character, plus one without weapon in hand) no Earthquake (the Sega CD has the same issue, plus more, like no announcer, no Kuroko to officiate the fights), music that restarted every round, a feature I disliked in Samurai Spirits 4 on the PS1 (yet I still bought it), it had it's shortcomings. It was also censored a bit as well, yeah it had the cut in half fatalities, but that doesn't make it superior. And the SNES had it's share of issues, censorship, and smaller sprites dampen, but don't destroy the mood. Both games maintain the most important aspect of the game, the atmosphere, and of course, the swordplay.

      Graphics matter none in a game, that's being small minded. Gameplay and replayability is what matters most. Kids today use the graphics thing, and it's annoying. I've literally named a bunch of things missing in the Genesis port, and you're telling me the graphics make something the winner? Hardly, the game could look beautiful, if it plays like shit, then the game is shit, if the game looks ugly, and it plays well, the game is good. Tell that to someone in their 20's, don't tell that to someone who grew up before the 16 bit era, who has watched games evolve, then de-evolve since the near beginning.
