This is a legendary performance. I've probably listened to it all the way through 50 times!
I can't believe I have only just found this. Thank you.
lil piece of music gold hidden in the youtube depths!
Why is it only in 240p...why not in 1080p ?...
Why does pat Metheny plays the same licks all the time
Because it sounds good
Because he’s channeling Gary Burton.
@@scottstruif3939 ? Does Gary burton also play the same licks all the time? Or do pat play Gary licks or what?
@@svensvensson6705 He stole his shtick from Burton. ua-cam.com/video/hYEBRAyi7-c/v-deo.htmlsi=AauBGmfNi-nEFbbp
@@svensvensson6705 - Gary was Pat's mentor, so I can understand seeing some commonalities between their playing styles. For me, the real key to Pat's playing, and what appeals to me most in his work, is what he's achieving harmonically and at the level of composition. It's not so much about phrasing or the individual notes of licks, although those things are identifiable contributors to his style. It's about the through lines and the pathways to harmonic resolution. Some of that harmonic and compositional strength was no doubt drawn from Lyle Mays as well. These things may be more challenging to find in the music for those who are not musicians. Do you play? Brecker can play only single-note lines given the nature of the saxophone, but he, too, builds an incredible harmonic sensibility into his performance.
