The most incredible thing that happened to me in the last years might be meeting Wim Wenders in Istanbul and getting him to sign my Paris & Texas DVD and a few days later Mubi sent me a poster for Perfect Days signed by Wim Wenders. It still feels like a dream. By the way: Wim Wenders is an incredibly humble person.
Im 25, born 15 years after Paris, Texas was released. Cant believe what journey ive been on the last 2 years, this will stick with me. One of the best films I've seen!
My No.1 film of all time. This is what happens when you have multiple geniuses in their own profession, collaborate. Sam Shepherd's and Wim Wenders brilliant script, Ry cooders' incredible score, Robby Muller's masterful cinematography, and Wim Wenders direction that captures the most beautiful performances from Harry, Dean, Natasha and young Hunter Carson!
Interesting that Wim views the ending as Travis doing the right thing. It’s undeniably moving in the moment, but I can’t help but feel that it’s again Travis shattering another family (his brother and sister in law with Hunter) in a reckless attempt to reunite one that was wrecked already. His intentions are noble but he’s making the same mistake. To me, that tension is what makes the movie a masterpiece

that ending is fantastic. absolutely heart breaking but fantastic
Love, love, love this movie. Recently saw a 35mm print in a packed theater. The ending produced tears, funereal whispers, lovers' hands clasped, sighs, and breaths held until the lights came on. This is why we go to the movies.
I disagree with Wim that Travis leaving at the end is an unequivocal "act of heroism". I think it can be viewed through many lenses, including cowardice, which makes it such a good ending. Having him make the U-Turn would have crystallized his intentions in a way that wouldn't have felt true to rest of the film's ethos. So kudos for sticking to his guns even if it was a shame for Harry Dean :/
agreed and i know harry was older and still probs respected the oscars but we all know the oscars are a joke lol and this movie and his performance is iconic and transcends the oscars, the u turn would've been corny!
ONE of the BEST endings in cinema. I'm with Wim on that decision. Sad about Harry not getting his due, but he's undeniably an iconoclast. People fan boy over him, including myself, and will until the earth is no more.
I saw it I think as a teen ( 90s) and it has remained with me ever since. Maybe it is because I saw it so relatively young which means I had seen many but not that many films to impress me yet? But for sure one of my forever faves. And it always strikes me that Wim, Sam Shepard, Stanton and Kinski made a movie that feels somewhat quintessential American yet also .... not? Maybe a stupid question as...duh. And it is obviously time to see it again :) it s been a while.

There were three films in the early 80's that made me decide to become a writer. Tender Mercies, Local Hero and Paris, Texas. I never turned back.

Can’t wait to see the movie with Wim next month in India.
Even 40 years later, people are still talking about this movie. Ethan Hawke mentioned it being one of his favorites

an all-time favorite film of mine as i own a copy of the film on blu-ray.

Wow, the movie studio wanted him to change the ending? Madness.
from the thumbnail i really thought it was david lynch
Ich liebe diesen Mann!😊
Win could be David Lynch’s brother!
Dean Stockwell brought me to this movie
I thought that was David Lynch
Curious why so many people love this film? I thought it was just fine.
Could be the time you saw it. Meeting a piece of art at various points in life could really color your perception of it. For better or worse lol
@AfterSimone yeah that's very true. Maybe I have to rewatch it. I think it looks beautiful, but I just don't feel it like so many others seem to
@lilnutty6821 I know that the first time I watched it wasn't alone. Maybe throw someone else in the mix too!
@AfterSimone I'll give that a go. Might be a good date night movie
@lilnutty6821 you got a letterboxd? I'll keep an eye out for your review!
