Please Pin Overated doesn't mean bad but overpraised. I believe the godfather trilogy is overated and it doesn't mean it's bad, they're good movies but don't deserve the amount of praise they gets.
Okay, so I've seen you're entire list. I respect your opinion. Here's my take on all of these and some o my most overrated games: Your list: 20: GTA IV. I think it's all down to taste. I don't think it's overrated. As many people like it as people that don't. I think GTA V is way more overhyped. More of that on my own few games. 19: Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. At least they tried something new. I just don't like ship combat, so naturally it would not be for me. 18: Assassin's Creed Rogue. I'm not familiar with this game. Maybe Assassin's Creed was just not for me. I didn't play any of them and I'm ok with that. Too many games and ports to keep track of. 17: Arkham City. Gotta admit. Arkham Asylum had a lot more impact on me than Arkham City. That didn't make it overrated for me. I thought it was still an amazing game and the bosses were fun to fight. And then Clayface at the end. DAMN. That was a cool ending. 16: A Plague Tale. Not familiar with both games. Still, I don't like cinematic games. They all are about the same to me. 15: Beyond: Two Souls. Same thing with A Plague Tale. 14: Elden Ring. I didn't like Elden Ring. Not because there was too much yellow, but because the graphics felt flat to me. Modders actually fixed that minor issue for me, which made it more enjoyable. I do agree with the huge difficulty spikes. And the only way to counter losing health is either more armor or buffs. Having three quarters of an upgraded health bar melt away due to one hit was discouraging and discouraged experimentation for me. And the bosses only attacked with certain player movement. Which made it a frustrating thing to figure out. In my opinion this game is overrated due to the bossfights. 13: Black Myth: Wu Kong. I really gotta try this one sometime. Remember this is their first AAA release ever. Coming from mobile games of all things. I like character action games and soulslikes where stories are in the background. 12: Baldur's Gate 3. Not familiar with this one. I've played a little bit of Divinity: Original Sin. I didn't like the combat system there. Realtime movement with turn based tactical combat feels jarring to me, that's a me issue. I've played some JRPGs and real time with pure turn based combat felt more satisfying. I've played BG 1 & 2 and there I liked the real time with pause more. Felt more immersive and made me think on the spot. 11: The Last of Us Part 1. Also not for me because the story is more important than the gameplay. its story seems to be not innovative at all from what I've seen other people say. Infected is just a more politically correct way of saying zombies. It felt more like Uncharted in a post apocalyptic setting from what I've played. 10: Dark Souls 3. I think the souls formula is just not for you. That's okay. Many people don't even play it for the story, but for the challenge it provides. I still need to be good at this game and play it further. So far I liked the PC version more than the PS4 version. Mainly due to the framerate. 9: God of War (2018): Agreed, it's heavily overrated. Repeating Boss fights, difficulty = bullet sponges and Kratos needing armor while fighting the Greek pantheon shirtless. Also, hints galore. May I please have a chance at solving a puzzle myself? 8: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I thought the story was forgettable. I remembered no one at the end of the game. Just like end exams at middle school. I liked the metroidvania and soulslike combination as an experience. That kept me going. Not really overrated. There are many people praising this game, but also many critiquing its faults. 7: Bioshock Infinite. Bioshock purists hate it and people liking shooters also would love this one. Not overrated. More a matter of taste. 6: Overwatch. Dead game, why even talk about it? It's literally replaced with Overwatch 2, which many and many people critique. 5: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. I also love that there are multiple paths to completing the mission. It was rushed due to pressure from Konami and friction with Kojima. I just don't like unskippable cutscenes and literal baby steps with movement. Still fun though. Not overrated because people already criticized what could've been improved. 4: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It's great indeed as an RPG. I gotta admit the combat is not the best. But learning about monsters and weaknesses was very satisfying. I like how broken the potions are in this game. It makes you truly feel like a powerful Witcher. It also has a great soundtrack. Unfortunately Skelige went on my nerves after a while. Overrated? Yes it scored too high. Still one of the better RPG experiences with many sub stories ending dependent on how you approach them. Especially for one with a named protaganist. 3: Fallout 3: I think all Bethesda RPGs post Morrowind/Oblivion are overrated. Feel more like a sandbox than an actual RPG. More on that later. 2: No Man's Sky. Not familiar with that one. I can see why many people would like it, whereas other people won't. This again is all down to preference and most definitely not rated too high. People already pointed out why they don't like it and what could be improved. 1: Minecraft. This one again is all down to taste. I think it's just overexposure to this game. It's great for the people with a creative mind set and it's just not for me. It got spinoffs that failed, that's true. Still one of the better games for people feeling creative. And now comes my list in no particular order. One per franchise: Dragon Quest XI. I don't like how I had to travel the map 3 seperate times and how my upgrades didn't matter about 3 times. It also felt too much like a celebration than its own thing. The twist in act 1 was cool and it had a satisfying ending. I didn't like the Jade chapter. Final Fantasy VII. It's not that great of an RPG. It feels more like I'm being railroaded on a world map and the graphics are god awful. The combat and materia system in the vanilla game felt slow and didn't click with me. The open world traveling was even slower. It was like I was a snail. And the weapons and materia weren't well described. It was a dice roll whether they be useful or not. It's the most important one, but nowhere near the best. Elden Ring of course. Bethesda games post Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind modded is the better experience. Still quite fun as an RPG and eventually it's possible to be almighty. Oblivion also was one of the better ones. With Fallout 3 & 4, Skyrim and Starfield they focused on all the wrong things. They feel more like a sandbox, as I said, than a true RPG. The Last of Us. God of War 2018. Yes, story is decent, but as a game it's not that good. Sorry. DOOM 2016. The gameplay felt stiff and the game felt like a hallway simulator. But damn was the multiplayer ever as fun. Played it with my brother and was fun as hell. Ratchet and Clank 2. Gameplay improved, but the atmosphere, balance and bosses feel way lesser compared to the first game and deadlocked. I think it's in the bottom of my top 4 classic games. Sly 2. I liked Sly Cooper 1's level design more, sorry. It felt more polished and focused. Last but not least: Diablo 2. While the gameplay significantly improved and standerdized the Action RPG genre, the atmosphere didn't feel as impactful as the first one. The first is still my most favorite due to how ominous it was and that strategy was required to kill the enemies. I can name many more but this is it so far. Time's short as they say. I hope I didn't offend anyone with this list because this is purely my take on everything. No bash on anyone.
gta v, rdr 2, witcher 3, tlou, bio infinite, half life 2, titanfall 2, bully, metro exodus, wolfenstein 2, metroid prime, mgs series, god of war reboot, death stranding, horizon series
It's odd to say something is great but overrated, which is what this list was. I would have liked it more if you would have said, its great but here's one i liked better. Otherwise i left myself asking, what do you actually like? Or maybe video games just arent his jam?
i dont think it is weird, because i actually like most of these games, but when i hear people talk about them i feel like they make them much better then what i feel about them, because there is a lot of games like these that dont get so much love
