This is an older video but I’ve gotta say that even if you don’t get a highly detailed mesh out of some of the scans, you could always import them into a 3D software and model over them to create a new and clean mesh based off of the high detailed one. Shrink wrap is a modifier you can use in Blender for example.

Hijacking this comment to let people know that Blender's Quadriflow remesher is all you need to optimize the models from this app (unless you are animating it of course). Just duplicate the object, remesh it, then smart UV unwrap and bake the texture from the high res mesh to the optimized mesh. The video showed Blender's "Decimate" modifier as the method but that outputs bad topology so I wouldn't recommend it.

this sort of technology could change everything about the way models are created, a digital model creator might struggle to add realistic level detail quickly to for example a table, but a real world carpenter could make an actual physical table, and have it scanned into being a model, or for fantasy genre game having a genuine blacksmith creating the weapons.

I think in the future you will be able to request any type of asset from cloud libraries, and machine learning (deep learning?) will modify the asset to whatever you want. For example, you desire a table, but you want it decorated with a cloth from the time of Henry VIII and also featuring goblets from Viking times. No problem, the algorithm "knows" these features or can find out, or can even create them from scratch after researching all available literature on Tudor cloths and Viking goblets. Et voila! just click to download. After paying a small fee of course :-)

I've been playing with photogrammetry since like 3 years , infact I suggest this video on an email like 2 years ago ,
It could be improved through the new unity delight tool and other aspects it is great for large scale projects but there's some trade there i.e time ,for reflected materials I suggest using laser scanning or model it yourself, there's a budget laser scans but mostly you don't need them ...depends on your game
ways to improve your scan :
    -Use high resolution camera .
-Try to place your scaned object under good lighting conditions
-try to avoid auto focused mode use manual and adjust the settings as you need .
    -remove blurry shots
-the respective distance should be the same with each angel
-remove lighting using Unity delight tool.
there's other things but for kow I think these are the most important for beginners, have fun .
I'm trying to develop tool to bring this to unity with some improvement I've learned through my experience.. and to make it easier.

      @@ghost_in_the_robot hi there,
There's always an alternative solution , I suggest you look at agisoft which provides the best textures quality & accurate mapping ( they also have really good delighting tool)
      There's also open source applications
but the problem with photogrammetry is that you can't capture anything i.e repetitive pattern & reflected materials,
Unity actually acquired a company that specialized for material authoring using ai&ml .
But it's expansive licensing fees .
the tool I want to make isn't yet ready but it's on the list ( perhaps it's not competitive at all) tho
I'm learning AI&ML now with other projects .
whenever it's ready to use I will publish it into the assets store and my instagram account .

Honestly as cool as an app for this is, I wish it was a more general "Upload a video file" service, because then you could use whatever cameras you have lying around which could be higher quality than a cellphone camera. For example I have a decent DSLR that I could then use, and higher res video would likely produce cleaner looking results. The app makes things easier a little because phones have sensor data like rotation and momentum data, but these are only aids to photogrammetry and are not required, it's a similar technology to how camera tracking can work in various programs, based on an image alone and enough tracking points software can determine with good accuracy where the camera was, which provides the same info as the rotation and momentum data of the phone. So personally I prefer to use MeshRoom.

There's free desktop software that lets you upload videos or photo sets and do photogrammetry with it.
This program is cool because of the convenience, but if you want the higher quality you will probably want the extra control from doing it yourself as well.

@@thelegendofme7520 A single paragraph is hardly an essay. All I was doing was expressing how I felt it'd be more useful if it was made more general. I said nothing about no thanks, and I never said it wasn't interesting or cool, simply that it was limiting its potential by being tied to a phone app. That's all. If you wish to read farther into what I said than I meant feel free, but what you find won't represent my thoughts.

I Just want to know one thing: If I use their app to create my own models, render them in Unity (Like you did), make and sell a game using those models... Do I owe any money to displayland for using their application to do that? I just went to their site and tried to understand their policy, and I think the answer is "no" due to the "Intellectual Property" laws/classification/definition... but those policies are always so long and convoluted and dense that only a lawyer could possibly find the loopholes and absolutes.

    • @alyssonrod

Don't would make sense they put the app free and ask for your project money, but its a very good question

    • @Zhiar
      @Zhiar 3 роки тому +12

I think the reason the app is free in the first place is because they collect the models and will probably built a large asset library off of user scans, and this is where the profit would come in. Never used the app or read their terms of use but it really does sound like they aim for this.
