El aynoui was a warrior... Karim alami great player too but hicham arazi was my favourite maroccan player. He had some talent and sweet lefty touch and hand skills
You are 100% correct. There's various factors that create a mature athletic player (parents, support network, the right mentors, lifestyle balance) and Nadal has it all.
Love seeing his video. The 2003 USOpen was the 6th consecutive one I attended, and I went to Grandstand to see one of my favorites, Moroccan Younes El Aynoui -- and was introduced to a future GREAT.
@@masters.1000 On what basis are you making this judgement 😂 It's not fair to compare today's young talent to Nadal and then complain when they don't stack up; as I said the man is one of a kind
Id like Rafa to win 2 more US Opens so he can break Roger's record for most US Opens... And that would also be a slap in the face for the guys that call Rafa a Clay Courter.
Crazy the following year what he looked like at Roland Garros 😳 incredible how he involved into a beast at such a young age.. Definitely a good team and good training and good genes

bogdan Petrovic . Being fast when you are in the 20’s like de minaur is not a big deal honestly..Nole is more flexible than ultra fast 💨 like Rafa..And Gael who I like a lot, is Allways out of gas after 1 set and some games..
El Aynaoui a gentleman who was a bus driver who could play tennis super well I miss these days and a young Nadal who I never thought would have the career that he did 🤙🏻
You can tell he idolised Carlos Moya growing up. Exact same serve and forehand technique, albeit a bit more topspin. Interesting how it developed overtime to what it is now
Spoiler alert- go to 3:18 to avoid seeing the quick finish. So this appears to be 3 min short highlights and then 20 more minutes of extended highlights starting at 3:18.
While I like Carlos, I am shocked at the ignorance of a lot of people when they praise him without realising that Rafa at 16 was playing spectacular tennis. Fortunately Carlos is humble
1:39 this point sums up Rafa Nadal completely. He just doesn't give up...he tries till the very end...i mean 8/10 plauers would just leave this point and consider it lost but not Rafa. There's no guarantee that he'd win the point after all that effort but he doesn't care.
I almost forgot that Rafa used to regularly hit THROUGH the ball, and not just try and over-top it on every shot. I think Rafa should take Nalbandian on as a coaching consultant.
17 yr old Rafa...the other guy is 34...what a mis-match... Rafa...can only shake my head at your super sportsmanship... nobody like him...there wont be anyone like him... If that were clay Rafa would have won :-)
Old Nadal needs to learn from young Nadal how to end points quickly. He just keeps rallying till Djokovic hits winners. Also taking to 3 sets and making matches very long. He needs to be strategic to avoid injuries playing for long time.

so true
What a great player El Aynaoui was; with Harazi and Karim Alami, they had a great generation!!!

Fun fact: Nadal now at 36 has spent most of his life as a pro
Alcaraz did imo
Federer did.
Alcaraz
1:41 he failed to catch the lob, but managed to chase the ball and hit another lob. then won the point 😅
At 17 Nadal already had great defense, offense, and a solid net game.

His foot speed was incredible back then.
Still has great speed
If not faster, the same speed
@@fireballdude7368 not true. His foot speed is miles below in the present than in this video. But his footwork has dramatically improved now.
StarRayet He is a more efficient mover now, but he has a lot of miles on those legs, so It is a fact that his overall speed is going to be slower.
Tell me HOW MANY 16-17-year old teenagers nowadays are that athletic, determined and fierce like he was?
Nobody... Not even the desire to win like he had.
That's why he was such a prodigy, Top 50 with just 17 years old, unbelievable.
@@masters.1000 yep, and the muscles too, now the tennis teenagers look like Zverev and Tsitsipas, thick as hell 😂

El Aynaoui´s smile after Rafa ran down those lobs seems to say "Who is this guy?" Rafa be like: "The name is Nadal, Rafael Nadal."
My two favorite players of the modern era.
His serve has really improved, used to be very vulnerable. Maybe because he's not a natural lefty but he really improved it over the years.
Although I know it is true, I still have trouble reconciling the fact he is not a lefty. It's just not fair LOL!
You can tell he idolised Carlos Moya growing up. Exact same serve and forehand technique, albeit a bit more topspin. Interesting how it developed overtime to what it is now

We wanted to see more of El Aynaoui but thanks
even then he was fun and exciting to watch ,just different to the rest
Why not the full match???
El Aynaoui knew this kid was something special.
Younes was a beautiful player to watch. Unfortunately we now have slow courts and long baseline rallies.
This guy really didn’t want to hit to rafas forehand lol. Even back then it was scary.
The kid has potential. Whatever became of him?
maybe he could challenge for a grand slam someday
I see a version of this comment every time there is a video about star players when they were young. It's so unoriginal.
@mikeisu ? Okay mikeisu. I was never talking to you, but keep getting offended, lmao
@mikeisu yeah, I agree. The comment is stupid. I see it on every video with a young athlete
Might've cracked top 10 in the rankings and nick a grand slam or 2.

In those days, Rafa was not yet a GOAT grunter. I guess it's a skill developed over time.
