Chris, congratulations on making the move to Malaysia. Come over to Penang and we will host you and show you around AND take you to eat all the great hawker food in Penang. ❤
Good thing abt Malaysia - since you are a digital nomad, if you want to live an even cheaper lifestyle, consider living outside of KL. perhaps move to different states every few months. Internet is nationwide coverage and hv 5G. You'd be surprised the diversity of food and culture here. Don't worry abt safety (just don't wear expensive shit & act normal), most Malaysians are friendly and helpful, esp if you could speak Malay, it would help you tremendously.
KL city center better la. Rm2500 can get you a super luxury condo, nearby your SG embassy, much safer than JB. Short distance to Genting, Penang, Cameron Highlands. Huge digital nomad and professional networks.
Agree..I rather be a Malaysian but work in SG to earn the 3.44 , if I work hard in SG for 10 yrs... I definitely can go back to Malaysia n set up a small business, but can Singaporean do that in their own country??? 😲🤔🤭
They spend their whole life paying off a tiny flat but think they’re richer just because 3.44. When in reality they live mundane, tiny flat and public transport lives.
Welcome to Malaysia. As a Msian residing in JB, I look forward to visits to Singapore. You have lovely parks, great 1st world facilities and things work much better than Msia putting aside cost of living. But Malaysia is still home.
It’s always good to have a financial plan. Or move to a location were you can excel better….I work with a licensed planner and fixed-income strategist in LA. The fixed income portion of your portfolio won’t simply serve as a buffer to the volatility of the equity portion of your portfolio, but will provide legitimate income
Nice. Rent out your HDB and stay in Malaysia. A few of my ex-colleagues are doing that as well. A Malaysian colleague has even accrued a property portfolio of 6 apartments, 3 cars, 3 motorbikes just using his income from SG.
It Ok, he is young, can take that nomadic lifestyle, won't die wan! it better to challenge oneself and move out of one's comfort zone, that the beauty when one is young, they can take the risk and falls. That why both of my sons ventured out of Singapore. You now why KIWI BIRDS cannot fly cos New Zealand was such a safe haven for KIwi birds, they never have take flights since there is no danger, as times goes by, they lose the ability to fly. So soar high my dear Chris when you are young, go experience life and enrich your heart and mind in other untangible ways. You will always be welcome back to Singapore. You are a son of Singapore.
where should you go? if you stay in JB, it's easier to run back to SG regularly but what's the point if you WFH. you only do that if your daily job is in SG. KL has better infra but crowded and jam. property prices higher aso. but can take train, no need car. penang? more chinese. less trains. need cars but also small land space. of course, food is 'better'. some older folks even suggest ipoh. that is more suited for old people who don't go out often.
I recall he got a sizable portfolio.. by scaling back. And retire in Malaysia it much easier to achieve then in sg.. just base on rental/food cost etc Also a good testing ground to see if his portfolio can support his retirement.. I’m sure everyone want to “test water” He could ram up his portfolio 20-30% and then with his experience in Malaysia , find a better place or a different country like Thailand or Vietnam With 3-4k sgd is doable
@@AlphaMaleMy you can find great food at every price range in Malaysia. 😉 For the Malaysian experience Michelin-starred fine dining, try Dewakan at KLCC.
I am very happy for you, When I was young, I lived in several countries and it already open my heart, mind and soul as well as critical thinking. You don't have a child yet so your move right now to move out of your comfort zone and explore new territory is correct. Be bold to venture out, not every gain is countable in dollars and cents, an enriched life will open up to more new ideas and an ability to see things from different angle. I will be moving out of Singapore soon, my children have all moved out of Singapore to experience life and to grow their mind and soul. That why it important to save and start investing as young as possible, although I did not start investing as young as you, I was able to generate passive income from rentals. I look forward to your videos and do take care of yourself and don't forget your parents. God will bless all those who do things right. Life is about experiencing and growing and developing into a better person as well. Thank you for your contribution on financial matters. It really helpful.
Looks like it’s inevitable. The cost of living in Sg is driving people nuts and as time goes by, it seems not working (no pun intended) as we found that we actually have a limited lifespan 😢. Do let us know how you intend to live in malaysia while holding a tourist visa (travel in-out Sg frequently?)
Great move esp while you’re young. A lot of the naysayers tend to be making comments out of self reflection fear and never lived as a local overseas. The crab mentality of those who “can’t” must be pushed aside. Living overseas as a local changes you in a very positive way. In addition, the way many commenters talk about safety and stuff show how much of a bubble nanny state babies they are and how skewed their mindsets have developed because of the very high standard in sg. Go do what’s best for you and wish you all the best. It’s be good to talk about visa stuff in the future as well as have a collab with great non finance UA-camrs who retired in Malaysia like Taylor, the retire American.
Your term 'bubble nanny state babies' is so apt in every way. Young people, even girls, of other countries want to have some adventure and go live in and explore foreign countries. But these people dare not even venture out and spend a few years in the nearest country that has a culture most similar to Singapore.
that i disagree. singapore actually gets the premium agricultural products from malaysia because the SGD is higher. if the agri products can be sent to JB from hundreds of miles away, they would prefer to drive a few more miles to earn a whole lot more.
This guy maybe among of many Japanese & Korean or other expat in Malaysia. Who earning USD or currency from own countries & leaving in lower currency in Malaysia. Plus this time he may in advantage due to the next king will be from Johore. Which the king has a better relationship towards Singapore gov for years.
In my long term dream, I'll semi-retire there as well. However, can you share more about how tax will be handled if you'll be doing your digital nomad there? How about the visa?
Happy for you Chris :) But just curious, you gonna move there on tourist visa? I also hope to move to Penang when I could but have no idea how. Maybe you could do a video on the various visas or perm resident schemes in M'sia. All the best!

Good for you. Explore the world while you’re still young and energetic. To have some idea about Malaysia checkout: UA-camr e.g. Andrew Taylor, American expat from Florida who has lived in Penang for about 7 years and 1 year in KL. A lot of experience on Malaysian culture. Another youtuber is the Corporate Breakout Couple, a Singaporean man married to Malaysian and based in Penang. Both retired early in Singapore and decided to venture the world and become fulltime UA-camrs. The wife is the tour guide for husband on Malaysian food and culture. Both have already accustomed to driving around Penang and Malaysia.
Malaysia boleh mm2h is too stringent and doesn't appeal to foreigners. Policy always flip flop out of a sudden. This Vlogger should have gratitude to Singapore, gives him a lifeline to prosper here. I envy you can get a Singapore bto subsided flat. I am a Singaporean served national service and yet unable to qualify to buy a new bto flat.
Thinking of going to Msia too once I've accumulated some decent amount of assets. I think it's just a happier place for children to grow up in, and they still have 华校 education system that we abolished in the 80s.
It is an exaggeration. No robbery at all in where I live. Singapore is too safe and very convenient, where the government takes very very good care of its citizens. Because of this, it can be unsettling for Singaporeans to explore the world outside, where not everything is taken care of by the government.
Earn in ringgit in Malaysia still a better life than earning SGD in Singapore lmao. Unless you want to live in a tiny flat and take the bus until you’re 90 years old.
Congrats on embarking on your geo-arbitraging journey👍. Do be more alert in Malaysia... in terms of safety/crime it can be... a much "upper tier" than Yishun😅. Jokingly, dont buy all the property and leave some for us🤣. Good tidings and fortune ahead.
Chris, I have no good words for you. Yes, each one writes its own path, and there is no right or wrong And you have an advantage than most of your audience as you are young. If today, you are in your fifties, then, I will congratulate you for your retirement in Malaysia. But you are young, and being a Singaporean (if I'm not wrong), you should be able to stand the heat, pressure or whatever things throw to you. You are lucky, you are doing what you like with passion, unlike most the others. You look and sound thrifty, if you stand firm with your feet on the ground, I'm sure success will come. To me, now, you are quitting. Quitting to the pressure of the high cost of living, owning a car, owning a condo etc. Well, to each his own. Good luck for relocation to Malaysia.
Why take the easy route and retire in another country or Malaysia per se?! A human being is supposed to work (smart) and GROW his/her wealth to live a comfortable life in your own native country because your family/friends/relatives are to be found! Per Mr Goh Chok Tong’s saying when he was PM: quitters or stayers???!!!
When we separated from Malaysia, we lost our countryside. I don't think it's unreasonable for someone who wants a quieter lifestyle to move back to the countryside.
Yah…you are typical hater (loser)…must be feeling so jealous of Chris who is able to make this choice for his life and you cannot (or would not) becoz die die also you must stay and fight (not sure what you are fighting for but certainly not in your best interest) so you are the real loser.
Rent is more expensive than KL, crime rate, especially murder rate is double than KL. Yet Singaporeans are too delusional to realise the facts, they rather say KL is worse because it suits their agenda of jealousy when the facts say otherwise.
Chris, nd Ur loubang there. Please set up match mate agency for like-minded youths. Daughter in laws despite been graduates the girls hands on alot helping at home and in family businesses.
