@@tekamer6566He means dot snapshotting. Meaning the dots tick rate is affected upon application instead of dynamically updating based on your current haste at all times. Meaning you can pool all your haste effects in one dot application round and then I think with pain and suffering you can refresh your dots with Mind Flay and extend that hasted dot application and really pump your dot damage when you time things right. I may be off from the pain and suffering bit as it’s been a while for me. But the snapshotting definitely is a big aspect of proper dot damage upkeep.
With 4 pieces of dragon soul pve set your shadow fiend gives you 3 shadow orbs on every melee hit. it was kinda fun burst build for bg's, when you could just spam spikes and instant crit mblast with 3 orbs. I missed cata sp so much
Don't forget the dagger from Madness of Deathwing that would apply a really strong poison DoT to enemies, or the shadowbolt volley trinket. I remember flying past an SP out in the world and he applied one dot to me, which applied that poison, which also sent a shadowbolt and I died and fell out of the sky.
Shadow Priests were OP this expansion. I remember constantly dueling, and there was a black rule of which you don't duel shadow priests because of how stupid OP they were. Only in 1v1's, though, but in 2's and 3's it was a little bit different... though, the class combo with a SP was like sought after. Same with Blood DKs, though, their peak was during Wrath. Cata - MOP are the best versions of shadow priest. I prefer the mop version with MB giving orbs for fat DP...felt like more controllable burst in PVP, but Cata is still a huge upgrade compared to other iterations.
@@Br34kdownI very much enjoyed Shadow during Cata. But I also really enjoyed Shadow in WoD more than in MoP mainly due to Clarity of Power granting that massive instant cast burst builds.
Which xpac was it where dots gave you instant mind spike procs? Good memories of dotting everyone and then instant mind spike and mb into a healer and just annihilating them instantly. That might have been wod?
@@crimsonrhoads91 In MoP we got the talent... From Darkness, Comes Light which granted Surge of Darkness for Shadow, allowing instant cast Mind Spike procs for an additional +50% damage. In WoD, that talent just became Surge of Darkness for shadow in naming and we got Clarity of Power which granted +40% damage to Mind Spike, Mind Sear and Shadow Word: Death to targets without Shadow Word: Pain or Vampiric Touch on them and Mind Blast became instant cast with a 3 second reduced cooldown. So Surge of Darkness + Clarity of Power granted that massive burst window of damage. The strategy in PvP would be to dot up everyone one first to fish for procs but then focus on a target without dots on it and load everything you have into that target. Because Mind Spike, Mind Blast, Shadow Word: Death and Devouring Plague all have ZERO travel animation and are instant damage the second you press the button, you can nuke someone real quick and they cant react fast enough because they got no visual indicator aside from their health pool dropping fast. You can also mix in spells like Cascade for extra instant burst, Twists of fate for extra +damage/healing when healing or damaging target at low health and Spectral Guise to sneak behind enemy lines to surprise them or to escape or juke people. WoD was the best moment in time for Shadow imo.
I'm surprised it's not MoP with the ability to stealth and fade making you untargetable by ranged for like 3 seconds, plus the devo plague on demand Burst.
Surrender to madness was it. Thematically I think it was the best, and add the order hall + the dagger and it was pinnacle for me. Legion was the best shadow priest.

The only part of MoP Shadow PvE that's missing is "From Darkness Comes Light", the talent that used to give VT a chance to proc instant Mind Spikes that did like 200% extra dmg. It was there in season 1 of DF, but it was removed because of the button bloat it caused, which ironically is the same as what happened in MoP. This talent was never picked again after the introduction of MFI in the 2nd patch, since they were on the same talent row and competed with eachother. On top of this, we have Void Torrent from the Legion/BFA era, and Void Form as a 2 min Dps CD from the Cata/SL era (it serves the same purpose as Dark Archangel in Cata). It's just like WotLK vs Cata Shadow,. They are the exact same specs with the same buttons, except that Cata has a few mechanical changes/additions that make it objectively superior to the WotLK version. This is a big deal in WoD as the only issue Shadow had in MoP was really lacking single target damage as Mind Sear and Cascade or Halo alongside multi-dotting just wreaked groups of targets. But it was the single target damage limitation of Mind Flay just not able to compete as we did not have the Insanity mechanic and we did not have a damage cooldown like Dark Archangel as that was removed going into MoP. Other than all that, it was similar gameplay.
@@jakekinzly5162 My point was that From Darkness Comes Light worked the same as the talent in Dragonflight did. They both procced instant Mind Spikes with increased dmg, the actual % is irrelevant. It's really easy to just look for any Shadow Priest PvE video from ToT or SoO to confirm this, or just go dig up the ToT patchnotes, which was 5.2 I believe...
