Even though this game doesn't look like an underrated classic or anything I'm still surprised I've never heard of it. Meanwhile you can find videos sh****** on Superman64 by the dozen. So thanks for shining a light on this - I might give it a try.
@@Pigsy255 probably worth a shot if you go the emulation route. Maybe if you get it for 15 dollars or under I’d go the physical copy route. But for what it was I had a pretty decent time. I will be replaying it in the future.

This is a two player game, with the second player controlling another Superman that is in Captain Marvel's color scheme. (This is the DC Captain Marvel that they now call Shazam.) For the time it was made it was OK. - There's a terrible NES game. - Sunsoft was working on a Superman game but it was never released. - An SNES game based on The Death and Return of Superman.
@@KasumiKenshirou there are definitely a lot of them, that’s not even counting the games he’s just a playable character. I did know about most of these but I decided to focus on the dcau ones for now. I may go back and play the nes title someday but as of right now the oldest I own is the game boy title.
@@harlannguyen4048They did do the process of changing it over to “Sunman,” but… no, they never released that version either! Luckily the finished ROM got leaked online years later, so it’s available for play today regardless :)
Good on you for going through the master piece of the DCAU. I just hope that once you run through it and move onto other Western Action shows made by a lot of the same people that you realize just how much they truly were slumming it when they got saddled with Ben 10 duty. And it's not that Ben 10 is bad, it's just that by that point everyone involved was clearly burned out and on corporate welfare and just trying to ride out their Twilight years at Warner's animation department without having to stress themselves dealing with DC's vetoes and suggestions and mandates and general meddling, good or bad.
It's awesome to see someone making content based on Superman games! There aren't many people doing it on UA-cam, and most of the ones that do just make fun of them without seeing their redeeming qualities. It would be great to see a video for some of the other good Superman games like Superman (AKA Sunman) on NES, Death and Return of Superman for SNES, and Superman Returns on 360.
You are wrong, but I was there too. Superman Returns is a second Great Superman game and with SoA they are like ying and yang of approach to Superman game, SoA treats him like a video game character with perfect balance, closed levels in false open world, while Returns treats Superman like most comics ie he really Is THAT tough nothing at all can stop him and only Real way badguys can hurt him is by hurting his ego ie by hurting civilians and the more fragile than him city (="world") and it shows the absolute MUNDANE and *ROUTINE* nature of Superman at his job just perfectly, you would really only enjoy your powers for 5 minutes (and also in case they either didn't kick in until certain age like post-Crisis or were slowly evolving like with original Superman just compare Superman #6 to #17 in case of just super speed alone) rest of the time it really is like any job or activity that you just do again and again and it makes Me (ME ME ME) at least appreciate Superman at least from that aspect alone, the same way I appreciate superMen in real life who driving this civilization and allow clean water, electricity, buildings that don't collapse, etc despite being often underpaid and definitely underappreciated for several reasons.
I own both of them, I haven’t played through returns since I was a kid and heroes I’ve never put in my console. Might have to make a video on them some day
naw man, Superman Returns on 360 is actually pretty incredible when it comes to control scheme and layout. it gives you ultimate control over big blue and feels amazing flying and floating around metropolis. if it wasnt a tie in game with shoe string budget and time there is a masterworks in there. really just needs high quality animations with frame rate and would be awesome.
I kind of feel bad for Superman 64, imagine having all that ambition only to end up one of the gaming history's biggest jokes. I wonder what it would've been like if it was actually good.
Incredible I’ve never heard of this game and it actually looks good. It’s like Superman 64 if it was given the time it needed. Superman has definitely had a worse track record with games then Batman. He has at least two pretty good DCAU console games. Vengeance and Rise of Tin Tzu
Hulk Ultimate Destruction had a similar issue with missiles being really annoying and getting knocked back to ridiculous degrees especially with heat seeking missiles. Superman and Hulk being super weak to missiles in their video games who would've thought. I also find it weird how this game seemingly came out after when Superman TAS got cancelled and Justice League started airing.
Superman on 2600 was LEGIT back in its day. But that’s like… it, until you get to Shadow of Apokolips. Which is peak Superman gaming. And… no, Superman on Game Boy got awful reviews on release, it was never passable. lol
I enjoyed superman returns for old xbox as a guilty pleasure. Im kinda wishing with dolphin capable of mods, i really wish for the dolphin version of shadow of Apokolips to be modded as much as possible as it has potential to have an excellent modding community. Undefeated and GTA 5 mods also shown us good potential for Superman game tho I'm not sure what the story should be like. Aside from beating bad guys (the fighting should be like dragon ball raging blast 2) Id also love there to be special tasks and puzzles to solve (like Zelda and the Lego DC games) Overall I think a Superman game is easier to make than people think. It's the story that's always the hardest part.
Let's not forget the Atari Superman game. It's one of my most memorable games. Couldn't really tell you why....but if you played it you'd know about the either really like it or really don't like respond it gives. 👌🏿for me.
I'm convinced DC sabotaged Superman 64, then commissioned a different company to make Shadow of Apokalips properly. Seen a few videos saying they didn't want Titus on the game. Did you mention the Atari and Commodore 64 games?
I did not but I am aware of their existence, I strayed away from those in this video because they weren’t based on a show but I do plan on making a follow up video to address more Superman games. Those might make the cut in that one
Tools of the trade and My Girl are two episodes that someone in my family had recorded in VHS in the 90's. So when I watch those two episodes I get an absolute heart warming feel of nostalgia.
Also Superman is the *only* video game (or fictional character in general) character that is "realistic" and doesn't force you to come up with headcanons. Examples : In Spider-Man games he often gets shot, now in some he is wearing armor suit but in most it is just average tight costume that is just there for aesthetic purposes. And some instead of starting bleeding and starting to having some permanent effects on your gameplay (like The Amazing Spider-Man 1 scene) he just loses some % of HP. Same with any non superhero characters too unless it is Tarkov or Day Z or something. Now, with Superman you *DON'T* need to close your eyes and gloss it over by gameplay convention. He is Superman, ofc he can take a gunshot without suffering anything long term in short term and to quickly recover. And then he comes back after death and "Game Over". At the same time it isn't The Spectre or Dr. Manhattan situation, you can always imagine that he is depowered, didn't take in enough yellow sun or is under effects of kryptonite or k-metal Or just *pretending* to be as weak as this for whatever reason. Superman is the ONLY character that is both making "sense" and flexible like that, and all it is by original character design, unlike for example Batman having automatic grappling gun, which only came from the 1989 Batman movie or having his cape as a glider which came up from 60s comics (and some very faint examples in original "Rob't" Kane comics) and especially after TDKR comics, or even being anti "guns" guy while at the same time using "not-guns" and having machine guns and rockets on batmobile which is also from TDKR (original Batman when he had machine gun on batplane he Wasn't anti-gun, and when he became non-gun user batplane didn't have machine guns anymore while before TDKR batmobile never had any weapon in the first place!) and now imagine Arkham games where you have to manually climb heights by the rope and where cape is at best to protect you from flames and to look cool and in order to drop from tall buildings you either need to have parachute or The Batman 2021-esque gliding suit (Detective Comics #33, Batman #31 for example). So when people say it is "impossible" to make Superman game it really isn't, it is almost impossible to make NON Superman game.
This game is literally what Superman 64 could AND should have been!😮
U mean should AND could
I loved this game growing up, always got stuck on the Dam level because I couldn’t mash circle fast enough
It is crazy how fast you have to mash for success in this game😂
For me Superman Doomsday SNES is the best while the chibi Superman nes version is also great.
superman tas is such an underrated masterpiece with a stacked cast
