Superman Never Say Yes to a Cigarette - Richard Williams Ad

- Animated by Eric Goldberg. British Animated Advertisements by the Richard Williams Animation Studio, London.
Richard Williams is best known as the triple Oscar winning animation director of The Thief and the Cobbler and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, as well as A Christmas Carol and Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure. He was born in Canada and is UK based. His book and DVD set The Animator's Survival Kit is considered the premier textbook on how to animate. - Фільми й анімація
You have to admire how smooth the animation is.
StokedTrout it was always some Richard was known for. Most animators during this time would often cut back Movement to say time and money. Richard went full out, having a drawing per second, something most animators didn’t have time for. It’s also the reason his film The Thief and the Cobbler(an animated film which took 30 years to make) was taken from him halfway through.
he always draws on ones (24 drawings per second)
No, he doesn't. In his survival kit book, he says he uses 2s,4s, and 8s.
........and ones.
the anatomy and posing are weird
I'm certain drug abuse crimes would reach an all-time low if the threat of being yeeted out of orbit by Superman was real.
Say what you like about Injustice Superman, but numbers of smoking-related health incidents _plummeted_ after the press report where he revealed he could smell tobacco from ten miles away and liked to use smoker guts as a jump rope.

Seriously this animation. This is every animator's wet dream.
Too bad most animators don't get the chance to work with the kind of time and budgets needed for that kind of animation. It's very unfortunate.
Apexone Bascially nothing swims it’s nearly perfect. They probably “took breaks” which may make the lines look frayed but I don’t see any errors in this.
@@DevinMillarDM I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding you but when I said "it's unfortunate," I'm talking about how it's sad that most animators don't get the chance to get the time and budget needed to craft such top notch animation. The animation is as good as the Fleicher Superman cartoons.
"C'mon kids,if you want to grow up fast take one of *t e e e e s* "
The animation was actually REALLY good. Why can't we do this today?
ZdkDzk Because the general public doesn’t want hand drawn animation because it looks to cartoony. 🙄
because it's a manual animation drawn frame by frame. takes a long time to animate like this i guess.
We barely had this back then XD
Too expensive. That's why only movies or short commercials had this kind of animation.
sonikku956 It’s not really expensive, it just takes a long time. Most of the current CG animated films cost double to triple or even quadruple the amount of older animated films. They just take less time to make, so the profits and recuperating costs are more likely. Hand drawn and 2D animation is simply too time consuming and not as profitable to current studios and producers, at least in the US. Europe, Japan and other countries still do major hand drawn productions, while most 2D and hand drawn stuff is stuck in the indie market or the internet for the US, sometimes television or streaming.
What boggles my mind is how smoking didn't just completely stop after this ad was shown.
