Hey, Oliver, I have watched all the videos from the mechatronics eng playlist, and it helped me a lot in choosing mechatronics as I was confused between software and electrical eng.
This is hilarious. I chose mechatronics because I couldnt decide on whether to pick mechanical or electrical. But now I'm stuck with having to take programming courses. I suck with computer software. lol
Hi, I am gonna be studying Mechatronis in UW next year. I see some people on the internet saying that Mechatronics might not be a good choice for Bachelor's degree because you learn little bit from everything and you are not specializing in anything. They think that it is a good option for Master's degree. This made me little concerned since I am gonna be getting Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics. Can you tell me your opinions about this? Thanks! Great video!
I think people who say that don’t understand mechatronics degrees. There are certain classes that you will take in Mechatronics that might be similar to other degrees, but mechatronics is a field on its own and not every engineer would be able to do what a mechatronics engineer can. I also think the obsession with specialization makes no sense, having an understanding of multiple ways of doing things or even multiple careers and getting a broad education can help you a lot more in the long run if you want to change careers or roles in a company. People who specialize too early often find they don’t like the field they’ve chosen and lack transferable knowledge so they end up stuck with no other skills to work with. Read ‘Range’ by David Epstein, and you’ll see what I mean. Undergrad is supposed to be a time for you to explore and find out what engineering field really interests you and what job you want. The degree you get doesn’t really matter that much.
@@OliverFoote That really makes sense. I agree with you. Your answer actually shows that I am on the right way because I am still not completely sure about which engineering field I am mkst interested in. Hopefully, Mechatrinics will allow me to find an answer for that just like you said. Thanks for the explanation. I will take a look at "Range".
I currently go to kennesaw state for, the pass 2 years, under a BS in Mechatronics. Love it so far. I'm not completely sure but KSU might have a Masters degree on it soon. Not sure if soon will be in the next 2 years or the next 10 - 20 years, but I have a good feeling that it will be available in the future.
I hope that by the time i graduate highschool a bachelor's in mechatronics is available in my city, im going to do my bacheor's in my current country and my masters in the us

What do you think are the best ways to improve or learn new engineering skills outside of the classroom? Ive been messing around with some Arduino components recently
Arduino is good. Anything that you can show on a resume or post on LinkedIn is a good start. I would say anything that involves coding, building or circuits is all great for building skills.

With reference to Canadian universities, what is the difference between mechatronics engineering and mechatronics systems engineering? And which one is better?
Yes, you can take pretty much any masters degree after your undergrad, as long as you are willing to learn and you have good enough grades you can be accepted to any masters program
