"In the end, the world didn't really need a Superman, just a brave one."
That line still gets me.
I like the DC animated movies far more than any live action.
Mask of the Phantasm for the win.
@Private Bubba Ah I believe we may be thinking about different genres of animated programming.
Same here, the shows are even better than the live-action projects
@PrivateBubba Cartoon Porn? Whatever floats ur boat. Phantasm was good but It’s not the best..
My fav is Under the Red Hood 😁
Conroy and Hamill are best Batman and Joker. I’m calling it
When I read the comics, those are the voices I hear.
@@linkaran512 Me too. I can especially hear Hamil’s laugh.
Obviously
Why are you calling on something that's already fact? That's like me saying water is wet.
And Tim Daly is Supes
I really wish their live action films were treated with enough creative care as their animated outings
If those Jack Kirby character cameos were removed due to Marvel, that was definitely not cool. Very disrespectful.
Copywrite/trademark law is kind of weird. I'm wondering if they *had* to charge for it. Not "defending" their property can result in things becoming effectively public domain. That's an oversimplified way to put it - I'm not a lawyer - but you get the idea. Considering Kirby worked on both sides, I can imagine one side apologetically calling the other on the matter.
The BTAS series is always a blast to watch. It gave us Mark Hamil and Kevin Conroy!
Star Wars gave us Mark Hamill
@@jasonjo1993 talking about the Iconic roles of Hamil's Joker and Conroy's Batman
Yes
Still consider BTAS as the "definitive" Batman continuity
Saddly Mark Hamil will always be seen as Luke Skywalker and not the Joker or well known for it. Which is sad because he did a really good job with that role.
The most mind-blowing fact about the DCAU is that Warner didn't pick Timm & Dini to run the DC cinematic universe.
When I think of my favorite Batman and Joker I think of the DCAU....
Defined my childhood and obsession with Batman ...
...would you say the experience was spectacular?
Nice
Wally West over Barry any day
John Stewart over Hal any day
Hawk Girl over Aquaman any day
They got the Justice League perfect in DCAU
Aqua Man did become more involved later on especially in Unlimited where he feels like a part of the original members
I freakin' love the DCAU, it's a monumental achievement for comics based animated adaptations - There's such strong maturity and character work to the storytelling, and the continuity is impressive, extremely impressive when Justice League Unlimited enters the picture.
Just breaks my heart to hear about all the canceled projects.
Why teen titans was great ?? I think it's all for the best.
I wonder what the DCAU versions of the Titans would look like?
By which; I mean what would Cyborg, Raven, Starfire and Beast Boy look like in Bruce Timm's art style
Well if young justice, teen titans and teen titans Go! Are connected to the other shows and movies technically we do. But I agree
DC'S animated films are better than Marvel's animated films.
TRUE
Only good animated marvel movies I can think of are hulk vs & spiderverse
I like marvel more than dc but you aren’t wrong
DC animated movies are better than most of Marvel live action movies
By a landslide only planet hulk and into the spider verse are any good
It's awesome that Dan Turpin was modelled after Jack Kirby, gotta love the appreciation and reverence being given.
The choice to have John be the Green Lantern for Justice League was the best they could have made.
Why? He's the most boring Green Lantern. Force bubbles and laser blasts from his ring 24/7 when all the other lanterns are making interesting constructs.
Jove Joved There’s more to him than the constructs he makes, he’s a cool character and I like his personality. Plus if he makes boring constructs that’s an issue with how the writers portrayed him, he’s an architect who from my memory designed the Watch Tower. Him having boring constructs isn’t due to being a boring character.
@@CometX-ing That's the thing. He doesn't make constructs outside of bubbles and that's how he was in the comics as well. There's literally an entire episode in the series surrounding his old teacher giving him shit over it. You give the impression he's the only lantern you've really known. Hell, even anyone who managed to watch the "First Flight" Green Lantern animated movie would know better.
@Ricardo Santos his marine background was never a part of his character in the comics prior to the animated justice league. So they basically changed his background to make him more bad ads than the flash.
It’s because Hal Jordan was dead. Just like Wally being the Flash since Barry died too
Fact #11. The DCAU Timm Dini verse is still far better than its live action counterpart. After nearly 15 years...it still holds up!
"Savor your moment of triumph, Superman. But remember: Victory has its price".- Darkseid
Darkseid was a sore loser.
Why can’t the dceu be like these
ThatHalfLatino it is
james howe no tf it ain’t
Because Warner suck...
StooleNad then you never seen a single dceu movie
@@jameshowe8688 He was talking in general. Because few recent movies were decent, it doesn't change fact that DCEU was a dud.
Paul Levitz Owes us all a apology for that stupid Bat Embargo.
I'm glad to see you gave Watchtower Database a subtle shout-out there. Also, this actually taught me some things that I didn't know, so good job!
We were glad to see it too!
Oh wow, this is an unexpected honour! 😅 Keep up the great work guys, I love your channel!
Thanks Ashley!
So much love, character development, world building and nuance goes into the DCAU. Sadly, the same can’t be said about the DCEU
Yep XD

If someone told me Stan Lee's Ghost is still continuing to make cameos... I'd believe it.
Batman Subzero is a masterpiece. While Batman and Robin was a horror show until the end.
SomeMook ah subzero that’s a movie that takes me back and I’m only 18
Jack Kerby was truly a legend of his time and beyond it.
We, the internet people. 🤙
It me. It you. It US.
you guys need more spotlight
Don't let Jericho hear you repeating that bad creative, guys!
But, glad to see your comments!
...bad creative?
even though they made Kyle look just like Hal.
AGREED THE ANIMATED DC FILMS HAVE BETTER STORY LINES THAN THE LIVE ONES FILMS
It's kind of ridiculous that the producers hadn't committed to The Flash's secret identity, because that character is *obviously* Wally from day one.
Very much so. The style of the lightning bolt at his waist gives it away by itself, and that's not even taking into consideration the personality.
Not from the DCAU, but there was a one-shot comic where Superman crossed over into the Fantastic Four and ended up as Galactus's herald. I don't own the book itself, but I hear it's a wild one.
I don’t care what anyone says freakazoid is part of this universe
There's certainly some connective tissue!
Only because he was created by Warner Brothers.
Thanks for the subtle shout out Ewan! Love ya 😘
♥️♥️♥️
I'm surprised this comment thread isn't filled with gushing fans from all 3 accounts...
Given the costume, and the style of the lightning bolt around his waist, it was Always Wally. Barry's lightning bolt is different.
Great research job Ewan 👍🏾
So I bought the entirety of BTAS and watched it over the summer. It's time to buy the Justice League cartoon (that is if I can find it ;-;).

DCAU: adding diversity to a superhero team before it was cool
And thus Jon Stewart is still my favorite Green Lantern.
@@dinosoid2000 And I really want a John Stewart Green Lantern movie. Make it happen DC, make it happen.
And they had to FIGHT for it. The same racism you hear when people don't want diversity in films and comics happened then too, possibly worse.
Creators say stuff like that today and they get yelled at for "pandering" and trying to be "woke" and "why you gotta replace the classic Green Lantern with the more obscure black one?!"
@@bluecanine3374 Well that's because unlike today their entire character didn't rely on their race or gender, they were well written characters who just happened to be African-American or Female, the diversity thing wasn't the entire selling-point of the characters, that and the team proved their point that the characters were great by having them be brilliantly written rather than just shouting "Like these characters because they're African-American or Female!" and insulting anyone who didn't like them for calling out poor writing by calling them racist and sexist for it, but we didn't need to worry about it because the DCAU creators knew how to write great characters where their race and gender were secondary aspects to the characters they wrote!
Batman TAS is my favorite thing from DC. Injustice is a close tie/second.
happy to see the watchtower database/ 12th level intellect getting a shoutout :)
That episode with Darkseid and Turpin was amazing. It was incredibly moving. Thank you for reminding me of it.
I'm sure he's happy you're happy 🙂
Nice to see a reference to the guy's at the Watchtower Database.
Almost as nice as it is to see you saying it's nice to see!
WOOP
DC animated universe > DC live action
No shit 0-0
Superman Animated Series could be the most underated cartoon. Yes it is not good as JLU or Batman TAS. But it is a really really great show.
I think this is likely a showcase of the mythology of Superman just not being as interesting and expansive as Batman's and the Justice League's, as the show was very well done itself. Regarding the villains, Batman in particular, tends to have villains with more depth, with them possessing rather fascinating and tragic cases of insanity.
Watching all of these on DC streaming. Also, auto playing comics on my big screen is awesome.
Kyle Rayner deserves to be in a main DCAU project. He needs the recognition and appreciation he deserves
And now since Superman TAS was ported onto HBO Max, they've restored the cameos!
Conroy’s Fucking Badass as Batman Especially When he Goes Against Mark Hamill’s Badass Joker
I do actually remember the first broadcast of "Apocalypse Now", I was just a kid and wouldn't have known Jack or Stan if I fell over them. I remember that my mom was really impressed by the funeral scene, though. Very impressed, indeed.
If someone doesn't know DC and Marvel Universes are in fact canonically connected (what include also Hasbro and Toei Universe) so Stan Lee camos in DC are totally canon :D
here's one more for you Mad-Lads at What-Culture:
When Batman: The Animated Series was in development, Bruce Timm received a letter from Standards and Practices listing 10 things that could NOT be in the show, so for fun, he drew a crude sketch with all ten things featured in it.
I will happily die on this hill, Mark Hamill as The Joker is more iconic than his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.
The DCAU Batman looks a lot like the Arkham games. I guess I should watch the series now
I'm surprised Ted Kord didn't get a mention when talking about properties and characters that couldn't appear in the DCAU. It was weird the other Charlton Comic characters showed up sans the Blue Beetle.
1:32 GASP 😦
Oh Kevin, how could you ?!
Always wondered why they made so many weird decisions in the DCAU, like axing Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, and never having Aquaman as one of the main JL members. I'd say it still has life in it though, they could do more prequel series for characters they never fully explored like Wonder Woman and Green Lantern, they could even take another crack at that Lobo animated series, it'd be easier to pull off nowadays.
In short. Werner was screwing everyone even back then...
@Kev Walthall The fuck's your problem, asswipe? Who said I had a problem with it? My point WAS, not only was Hal Jordan not the main Green Lantern in the animated series, he was never a Green Lantern in the DCAU period, they gave Kyle Rayner his origin as the "first earth lantern" and made Jon Stewart his successor, Hal Jordan was pretty much erased from continuity. Which IMO was a bloody weird decision considering he's meant to be Earth's premier Green Lantern.
And it's ironic you go at someone for a spelling error when your follow-up sentence is littered with spelling and grammatical errors like you typed it in a drunken rage, go do one, fucking clown. 😂
The best and definitive DC universe!
That last one got me.
7:30 - Which movie is that clip from?
"Wally West, Clark Kent...Bruce Wayne."
"Show off..."
I wish we got another season of Batman Beyond
The DCAU is amazing
Dozens? More like thousands if not hundreds of thousands. This show influenced the comics in a profound way from the creation of Harley Quinn to the backstory of Mr. Freeze. It was the best adaptation of Batman of it's time and in my opinion still holds up as one of best if not the best of the adaptations. Some of the first comics I read were spin offs of Batman the animated series. They were all great shows (the DCAU) and a huge part of my childhood. They should use some those series as inspiration for future movies imo.
No joke, I would KILL for a DCAU Arkham movie, Teen Titans series, and 99% of those other concepts that never came to fruition.
Kev Walthall yep but I heard there will be a new season
oh yeah, when Batman guest starred in the Static Shock cartoon he asked where Robin was and Batman said "With the Titans. You'll meet them someday." or something
I always thought Wally was a better Flash. My memories of Barry Allen were that he was your typical Silver Age, goody-goody stiff. Wally was flawed, made lots of mistakes, and was thus more relatable to me and a lot of fun.
makes sense they chose Wally in the mid 2000s bc at the time Barry Allen was technically "dead" from crisis on infinite earths
Did you know that before the DC Animated Universe’s Harley Quinn, in the Flash 90’s TV show, there was already a crazy clown girl named Prank who loved her Trickster played by Mark Hamill by the way.
I really want them to adopt the Batman Who Laughs...just to hear Kevin Conroy do his version of the Joker.
Daniel Smith I’d still rather see Mark Hamill’s joker
Mark Hammill also did a Flash villain in the 90s TV show.
Just the way Flash was acting, it was clear it was Wally from day one. He's the arrogant and obnoxious one. :)
dumb question but is batman the animated series the same batman in justice league , same thing with superman from superman animated series. Are those supposed to be continued stories pretty much or different interpretations
Bruce Timm confirmed that both new movies ARE DCAU cannon. Watch the Watchtower Database channel's videos on both movies
Dude,I Fucking Love The DCAU
I was kinda stoked to see the Thing somehow
Young Kevin Conroy was A stud.
The best times of broadcast DC.
I only knew tim curry from his acting in the rts game red alert 3 didnt know he might have voiced the joker
11:00 They should put those Marvel characters and Stan Lee back in, that's possibly the best, most touching tribute idea. Also, seeing those character models of Marvel characters makes me want a JLA vs. Avengers EMH crossover more.
Indeed
#1 WhatCulture tells us 10 common knowledge for any DCAU fan in a video called “10 Mind Blowing Facts about DCAU”.
Ok, I guess #8 and #7 is not as common as the other ones.
I guess “Mind-blowing” doesn’t equal “surprising”.
I Don’t Know About The Rest of You Guys,But I Prefer John Stewart as The Green Lantern,He’s so Cool
So in 'The Justice League vs The Fatal Five', Supergirl is still loving in the future in a relationship with Brainiac 5? Oooh cool.
Connroy is my Batman, Hamill is my Joker, everyone from Twoface to Wonder Woman these are my versions of the characters I see when I think of these characters
The 1993 Batman show is part of my childhood.
Olan Osul and Adam West did a great time to BATMAN and Casey Kasem did a great time as Robin and Aqualad Lucy Lawless was really great as Wonder Woman and Burt Ward was great as the Robin in the 3rd series
Robin looks dope next to the justice league 💯
0:17 you can't tell me he didn't just snap that man's neck
All the DC movies from the 2010's are all excellent... especially the New 52 ones
When it comes to Cat Woman stories, i think the D.C. A. U. has lover looked some fantastic story lines that are a bit complex for the entire universe.
I can see why they do, this write actually allows time to PASS for the characters, which would make the never ending existence be in danger for comics. They might be in danger tue to media evolution.
Look up Cat-Tales by Chris Dee.
This series allows for some character growth, with some in character writer responses to either Re-Boots, artist and writer graphic novel books, Movie releases and ongoing updates in comics and probably animation.
This FanFiction writer is straight out NOT writing for "adult erotica" but someone who is writing because their heroes and favorite characters are loved individuals and thus given the complexities that humans just have.
Granted, i would love for these stories to find themselves becoming past of the Batman D.C. universe because I do love stories that are people that started as fans as children and like we find out while growing up, life can get complicated and sometimes a bit dark.
So, maybe read a chapter about the other characters in Cat Woman's life, and that maybe like Comic fans, she's not happy with how things are going, and so, considers it no better than gossip rags.
Check it out and maybe get more than you're expecting from Batman's foes who have their own lives outside of a cape wearing butt-kicking member of the 'Round Table.'

If nothing else, i hope I've given a glance to an author and maybe authors you didn't know about.

What show is at 7:30?
superman voiced sephiroth. that IS mindblowing!
Kevin Conroy's the best Batman, ever!
Mark Hamill's the best Joker, ever!
Anthony DiNocco animated wise? Yes
Troy Baker isn't bad either.
The DCEU wishes it can be the DCAU. This is what an interconnected universe should be like; great characters and stories with the crossover as an icing on top of the cake.
What makes the DCAU so much better than live action DC films not named Wonder Woman, Aquaman or the Dark Knight is that they get closer to the characters actual powers and abilities w/o looking or sounding corny or ridiculous. When your dealing with godlike characters it's hard to make them relatable to the Average Joe/Jane....
Shazam also was good...
Make the new Harley Quinn show part of the DCAU!
Crisis Among Infinite Darths AC it in dc streaming service
Please say it more often: DCAU
DC animated universe vs Marvel cinematic universe i want a good debate about that in a video
This is way better than watchtower database. He’s very specific
And he gets to the point
Lesson to take from this: The rule that characters can't be in a movie, a tv series &/or cartoon at the same time hurts all projects 100x more than it helps. CUT IT OUT! Their totally different mediums of course we can tell the difference.
Would have loved a DCAU Teen Titans, but at least we got Young Justice after a while.
2021: "look how we should have seen WB coming..."
Its just now dawning on me that the flash is the 52 reboot flash
