The episode Epilogue was a masterpiece, Batman's interaction with Ace still gets me teary eyed.
I wish we would get another JL show as good as this was.
Jake Elderkin Impossible. No JL show could ever be as good.
Well, how about the Junior Version of the Justice League? Young Justice is incredible.
We got a movie recently thou.
Or Justice League Action
@@AshrakTeriel Young Justice is amazinggggg, not even about the League mainly but its still the best version of the league in a TV show since JL/JLU
7:13
You left out the best line in the entire series which resulted from Wally being in Lex's body.
"Aren't you going to wash your hands?"
"No. 'cause I'm *evil.* "
"I have no idea who this is." - Lex Luthor in Wally West's body.
"The Great Brain Robbery" is the greatest mind/body-swapping story of all time.
Dylan Ogg
It really was.
Gosh people still remember that :D
@@alihaider5190 Hell yeah we do.
I absolutely LOVED this show. Batman, Superman, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, JLA, and JLAU...loved them all. DCs animated universe is and will always be, amazing.
Tim Cotrell don’t forger about the zeta project
Tim Cotrell as someone who read the Milestone comics, Static Shock was a bit of a letdown. That said, it was cool to see some of those characters on-screen.
@ULGROTHA yeah, they're hard to find. Definitely worth it, though. Good luck!
It's a little strange that Static, despite having his own cartoon in the same universe, wasn't a member or even mentioned in the JLU until the one episode where they did a time traveling Batman Beyond crossover.
Yes
Honestly, Batman not being so prominent in the first few series wasn’t a bad thing. He does prefer his solo(/duo) work and does a lot of the behind the scene work for the league like funding and investigating. PLUS he already had the Batman animated series so I am glad we got to see so much of the other heroes instead. It worked out so well.
Yh I agree and when I finally see him it’s more rewarding then seeing him all the time
My favorite line from the Question: The plastic tips at the end of shoelaces are called 'aglets'. Their true purpose is sinister.
I was gonna type it, lol but i only remembered the second half of what he said! Good on ya mate!!
Chills that line gives chills 🥶🥶🥶
Mark Latture or the fact that he used brobdingnagian in a sentence
What IS their purpose? Is it maybe the government uses the plastic on them to track people's whereabouts?
I know I still remember that line and I quote it constantly. I try to work it into conversations with my conspiracy theory friends and a few of them actually believe me.
There's some real nuggets from the commentary if you own the box set too. A couple of my favorites:
- JLU was supposed to feature significantly more single episode stories with a smaller hero pool... they ignored that and gave us this instead (GREAT call!)
- The episode where Wonder Woman is turned into a pig is supposed to feature Joker & his gang in the intro about to rob a bank. Batman walks by in the distance holding Wonder Pig trying to comfort her. Joker looks at them utterly confused and calls off the robbery on the spot.
I love how that implies that Joker took one look at Batman talking to a pig, and thought "well, he's finally gone insane - my work here is done." XD
Didn’t they also say in the commentary (for either Alive or Destroyer?) that while they’d kept writing most seasons expecting the story to end the actual cancellation caught them off guard and they had big plans for the next season (with Luther and Darkseid and Braniac and the anti-life equation?) that sadly never materialized? I can’t express how much I’d love to see them pick up where they left off with that series...
Todd Blackwood I'd have to rewatch that part, it's not ringing any bells offhand though.
epilogue was a master class in how much heart a show can have
What makes it so amazing it that it's not even the ONLY moment that shows that. Legends. The whole Solomon Grundy story arc. The people who did this show knew their shit, no doubt.
Was gonna say grundy was deep
Aquamans line is so savage "Point me in the direction of who did it, and dig more graves"
Your wrong. They did have an episode of child death. The one where the girl Ace dies with Batman waiting with her until she passes.
That's in Justice League. Not Justice League: Unlimited.
Javonte Morant no, he’s right. Ace returns and dies in a flashback during the Unlimited episode Epilogue
One of the saddest scenes EVER
So much bloody heart
For some reason, my eye kept leaking.
@Arch. RSL which is interesting considering robin(tim) was a kid at the time.
7:30 This part was hilarious, he pulls off the mask, give the perfect dramatic pause and says, "I have no idea who this is." :D :D
This was done in a time without massive internet surveillance. If it was today, he could have taken a selfie, send to his facilities to analyze and he would know instantly who Flash was.
@@robsonwaterkemper I'm 99% sure Tineye was already around way before this, in reality Lex would easily be able to figure out his identity, the line is just a joke.
Imagine lex bumping into
Barry (or is it Wally i can't remember) and realizing
Who the flash is since we
All know lex wouldn't forget a secret like that
@@kurtlindner It was something that happened in the comics, previously. Flash is one of the very few heroes that doesn't have a known, or semi celbrity identity behind his mask.
@@technounionrepresentative4274 a year late but it's wally
Whoever was in charge of the justice league cartoon the people that wrote the scripts the stories they should be in charge of doing the movies. JL and JLU was an excellent cartoon I miss it.
Yeah but sadly DC doesn't realise it..
This show is the reason why I always ship batman with wonderwoman
You and me both
To be fair back when this was being made wonder woman was human and got her powers from the tiara, gauntlets, clothes, and laso of truth. And if she fell in love or married a man she would lose her powers.
Lockon stratos not true for the dcau. comics yes but not in this universe at the time
@@Captain_Chaz86 comic are cannon animated isnt so there's that
Lockon stratos canon to it’s own universe
One of my favorite cartoons in general. I feel like most superhero media should strive to be like this show.
Dwebly II Yup.
WB should hire Timm/Dini to assist with live action movies. The animated writers and directors really understand the characters
That whole entire Cadmus story that started with The Question was one of the greatest storylines EVER! I enjoyed every single storyline that The Question and Huntress were featured in. Man, JLU was simply the best cartoon EVER created! So many epic moments, like the battle between Superman & Captain Atom, Superman & Captain Marvel...
I think it's time for me to breakout my JLU DVD set!
Having that feeling too, I also have the Justice League seasons as well as Unlimited. I guess what I loved the most about JLU was the Batman Beyond episodes. The way that series ended just felt like whiplash, it was too fast and too sudden. I always wondered what Terry would do after Bruce finally died at like 102 or something. When I saw he asked Dana to marry him AND she knew he was Batman, it was just awesome. I was 16 in 1999 when Batman Beyond came out and I loved the 16 year old Batman. I wish it was longer than three seasons. Sometimes I miss the early 2000's.
Superman v. Captain Marvel was pretty cringeworthy to me (and my wife and daughter can stand it even less) but otherwise, yes, the Cadmus arc was magnificent.
It was a political story in a superhero animated show. Even my late father loves it even if he hates watching cartoons when we watched it together
Superman v Captain Marvel was clearly a reference/homage to their battle at the end of Kingdom Come.
Actually, the best line of the Lex-Flash body swap is:
Dr. Polaris: “You gonna wash your hands?”
Flash (in Lex’s body): “No! ...Cause I’m evil.”
In the age of the Coronavirus, that question from Dr. Polaris becomes a case of "harsher in hindsight."
I find the scene where flash is inside lex's and the woman said he was a better lover than usual.
@@arivazquez4669 the woman was tala
@@NobleRaider2747 "....That's not restful."
@@2097Pyros lol
The police officer who said “Did you see that” was voiced by Kevin Conroy. He voiced both police officers.
On Number 1: Unlimited also gave Arthur a better reason for why he lost his hand. This time it wasn't due to otherwise normal piranha (as a recall) being mind controlled to do so, but him making a difficult decision to save the life of his son (yes, someone tying down Aquaman would use some kind of metal that would resist his strength).
Some of these I knew but the Nightwing one blew me away.
Dwayne McDuffie is still missed.
Wish he was still alive
Fun fact DC made a brand new character named Naomi McDuffie, created by Bendis, who had her own comic before becoming a official member of the new Young Justice which is also written by Bendis, and it’s meant to be a nice tribute to Dwayne McDuffie.
Though hopefully, when DC finally claim the rights for the Milestone characters from his widow so they can finally use them and stop letting these characters fade to obscurity
True, that.
@ULGROTHA probably will never happen.
Yes
John Stewart is the most interesting and BEST Green Lantern!! Thanks Justice League Unlimited!!
John Stewart is a Chump, as is the rest of the Green Lanterns!
*insert evil laugh.
@@disposable_hero1725 Your name is fitting and your response is amusing!!

Nah. Stewart is a miserable stick in the mud.
There should be a better live action movie of Justice League.
🙄nnnNOOOOOOOOOOO
@@NotUrBlkCrschnAntiGayMissile... Why?
@@NotUrBlkCrschnAntiGayMissile why not they're awesome
Denvor's Point of View agree as well as the members
WB and their writers should have based it on the Justice League DCAU overall.
The first movie can be based on the Alien invasion of the first season. The sequel be based on Hawkgirl (or a member) betraying the league and invading the world with her/his people. With an epilogue showing the expansion of the league. While the third movie should take years later and be based on Darkseid trying to take over the world with the whole league trying to stop him.
That would probably worked a lot better, and they could have expanded from there with the league members having their own movies (Green Arrow, Booster Gold, Black Canary, etc).
The DCAU is the best representation of the characters besides the comics.
True, that man. The DCEU wishes it can be anywhere as good of a superhero interconnected universe as the Dini/Timmverse was.
And comic based animated shows* although they are yhe same as the comics so ill give you that lol
@Wade Wilson The Batman: Hush Animated movie isn't part of the DCAU though.
It really isn't though
@Wade Wilson Oh sorry, my bad. Yes I agree with you.
I'm glad this show was apart of my childhood 🔥🙌🏾
I’m surprised that WB hasn’t brought in Bruce Tim and other writers from the DCAU to work on the Live Action Justice League movies.
They damn well should, considering the bar is pretty fuckin' low right now.
@@PrincessMatrix Smh, why you gotta remind me about that?, can't stand Batnan being with Batgirl
Batman and Wonder Woman was
better.
@@PrincessMatrix No, the creative team was clear that that pairing was messed up. Just because you show a relationship occur in your show (or make known that it occurred off-camera) doesn't mean you think the characters are doing the right thing. It's a dramatic choice.
Nah what we need is Kingdom Come animated movie in two parts and third part of Dark Knight movie.
Maybe it's Nostalgia, but I always like John Stewart over the other green lanterns, simply because he wasn't such a clown like Jordan or Ryner.
Nightwing made another cameo in Justice League, s1 ep24 The Savage Time pt1. Literally 7 mins in the ep he is one of the soldiers in Batman's army kissing Barbara. Its like a quick 2 seconds but they are both clearly draw to be them.
That's the cameo I thought he was going to mention.
Oh yeah! It’s brief but it’s there!
I met Michael Rosenbaum at a con once and asked him did he pull any of the Luthor he played on Smallville into playing Luthor in Flash's body. Sadly he said he had not, but still a nifty tidbit.
Brian Shell I met him too. . . He’s a Raging Smartass. . . Big fan.
I remember him saying he pulled mostly from Clancy Brown’s performance.
I'd add that it's also great that The Terror Beyond and Wake the Dead being direct riffs on Marvel's "The Defenders" (Dr. Fate stands in for Dr. Strange, Aquaman for Namor, Solomon Grundy for Hulk, Hawkgirl for Nighthawk, and eventually Amazo for Silver Surfer) is a really fun bit of JL/JLU trivia.
I totally agree about DC not taking advantage of John Stewart's popularity as Green Lantern from the cartoons, into the comics themselves. It was a missed opportunity indeed that made absolutely no sense to me then or now tbh.
I like the fact that the JLAU just didn't surrounded the series around the core members. But showcase other members of the league.
Wickedthtz the League is always best when the B-listers get attention
@@stvp68 They could do Batman and The JLAU series too.
Ewan, the fact you give props to the Question, makes me wish we can be friends XD
DC's most underappreciated character.
Lol true.
bob bobbybob honestly
@@bobbobbybob940 He was arguably Z-tier before the show, he definitely shot up quite a few ranks after.
Not gonna lie, when I saw the Aquaman episodes as a kid (I did not read comics and had no references to anything) that was probably one of the most intense things I had watched at the time. Namely the scene where Aquaman cuts off his own hand. Granted, all of JL struck me as way more intense than most kids shows I watched. I absolutely loved it. And I cannot believe that I felt the need to sneak into the basement when everyone was asleep because I was too ashamed to watch it in front of my parents.
Wonder how many people know the flash in the justice league series was actually kid flash Wally west, now as the flash
They cover it in the series.

Me
Anyone who watched Justice League
Wally West was the flash in the comics since COIE...
Que
This show was legendary. And when they changed to the guitar into it WAS LIFE. *air guitars tf out of it*
The only thing from the show that didn’t age well Was the CGI from the opening
It's a good feeling seeing The Question getting the love he deserves, one of my favourite DC characters...
Honorable mention: The robotic Justice Lord Flash created by Brainiac/Luthor in "Divided We Fall" is based on Professor Zoom, Flash's arch-enemy from the comics.
Okay.... I am beyond disappointed in myself for missing or not remembering the nightwing cameo
JLU is a fantastic show. The animation still holds up after all this time, especially proven when they brought that style back for Justice League Vs. The Fatal Five. Makes you wish they'd bring the show back altogether.
The Enemy Below actually did a better explanation of how Aquaman lost his hand compared to the comics. Aquaman was seen as both noble and a badass in this story.
My favorite part was the continuation of Supergirl's story which began on "Superman the Animated Series." We see Kara grow and blossom as both a young woman & a super heroine. This is arguably the best non-comic portrayal of Supergirl & that includes the current WB series.
So basically, I owe JLA/U a great thanks for the return of Hal Jordan and the GL Corps because of their decision to include John Stewart in the show instead of the already debuted Kyle (from Superman Animated), who was the only GL in comics during this time period. Thank you so much.
Thank you for also making Stewart a fellow Marine, and fleshing our his character further in this show.
There was also an Aquaman embargo due to the life action pilot featuring the guy who went on to play Green Arrow on Smallville. Aquaman disappeared from the show during JLU, and Black Manta was replaced in one episode by the suspiciously similar Devil Ray.
One of the best things about the show was all the else-world episodes where they focused on lesser known characters and pockets of the DCU, I didn't like them much at first but after becoming a huge DCU nerd absolutely loved them.
Booster gold had an awesome episode. I also liked hawk and doves, and the one where shining knight and a couple other guys( cant remember their names) fought a mutated general eiling.
@@deeday763 Shining Knight, Vigilante, Green Arrow, Speedy, Crimson Avenger, Star Girl (Star Spangled Kid) and S.T.R.I.P.E. (Stripesy). They're actually a very unknown DC team called the Seven Soldiers of Victory, specifically, their first lineup.
Kids today can't handle these kind of animations... They prefer JL Action or TT Go or Oggy..
Mista Jay nope i can handle them in fact it wasn’t enough violence for me
I think it's more the blame of the generation making the shows. They're trying to baby the new generation instead of creating good more serious shows like the creators did 10-20 years ago
Karan B yep
I kind of liked JL Action, granted it was a bit more kiddified but we did get the best version of Firestorm on screen so I was ok with it
Douglas Buirley not really
When Aquaman sacrificed his hand for his baby that's the moment she stopped being a joke I became a f****** legend.
There is no opening that is as awesome as the Justice league unlimited opening theme!
Never watched this as a kid, but watched it during my second year at uni - loved it, definitely one to appreciate with age
I liked how the show was able to slip in some adult humor like when they had to visit a guy who was obviously supposed to be Hugh Hefner.
The night wing fact blew my mind
John Stewart is Lynn Stewart's brother. Which makes his Thunder and Lightning's uncle
really?
Literally watching the series right now. XD I watched the series before but forgot a bunch of it. I love it!
Cassandra Cain, possibly the greatest Batgirl, had a brief cameo during that time-travel storyline where Batman meets old Bruce
HOLY CRAP! Grudge Match is one of my favorites and I watched it repeatedly, and I've never seen Nightwing in that shot!
easily one of the best dc show ever made
My absolute favorite animated super hero series - I loved it more than my kids did!

“The Dark Mullet Rises”...Coming to theaters summer 2020.
Dr. Polaris: Aren't you going to wash your hands?
Flash/Luthor: "No... cause I'm evil!"
I used to binge watch Justice League one weekend a month on Netflix. I miss both shows.😢
I always thought that the Enemy Below was the better story on how Aquaman lost his hand/gained the hook, far better than the comic version. Doing what he had to in order to save his son ... powerful stuff.
7:02 John Stewart does appear as part of the "Green Lantern Marine corps" in "Superman: Red Son." He's even got the same VA as JL and JLU.
WHY HAVE I NEVER NOTICED THAT NIGHTWING CAMEO!? 🤯
If you never know Nightwing is there, he's doing his job properly
@@spiritofthewolf15x Good point! 😂
It's one of those " Didn't you notice" things you didn't notice from watching the show.
Even though they never got to make the Justice League film that was going to be based on this series, I have to say that the Justice League: The New Frontier movie that came out a couple years later had more than enough cool things about it to suit me.
"You gonna wash your hands?"
"No. Cuz I'm EVIL."
That Nightwing moment.... that is AWSOME!!!
Yea, I didn’t know about different green lanterns till I got into comics because of the show. God we had a great childhood with cartoons
I remember watcher the old skool DC cartoons on Saturday mornings back in the 70's. "Wonder twin power's activate."
Seriously, i still can't believe The Question didn't got any more attention after JLU. I was SURE he would appear on Arrow at some point, he was perfect for that show.
There are reasons I watched the DCAU from almost the time I moved to Texas in the early 90s and all the way thru to the end. It was some great story telling and compelling characters.
Watching your videos really make me feel like I’m actually kicking back watching tv 📺 😂👌
BTAS, the two Justice League shows, STAS, Batman Beyond and Static Shock were the shows that have made me a DC over Marvel guy since as early as I can remember.
The DCAU was perfection! It was THE superhero connected universe before their were superhero connected universes.
The original Justice League theme song is so iconic, I cant listen to it without a shiver down my spine. That show along with other DC animated shows really entertained me all those years ago.
The show that brought us Batman's scene with Ace, which I consider Batman's finest moment in any medium.
The DCAU was something special. It was a great way to get an amateur into the expansive DC universe.
It’s still one of my all time favourite telly shows
As the heroes race out of the Hall of Justice for the last time (on screen), they do in groups representing the generations of DC super hero teams.
Fun Fact: Justice League Season 2, Episodes 15 &16, "The Terror Beyond," is a direct Homage to the early 70's Avengers / Defenders War story, with the core of the original Defenders, Doc Strange, the Sub-Mariner, and The Hulk, replaced by Doc Fate, Aquaman, and Solomon Grundy.
Such a great show. Great video -- please do more on JLU!
Thanks for making this. Now I have to re-watch all of Justice League.
Weird that Huntress' appearance was OK'd since she's usually seen as a Batman-related character.
She wasn't at the time. That happened more during the N52 I believe. Don't quote me on that though.
Favorite green arrow line. I’m paraphrasing here but he basically says I’m an old school lefty I believe the government should do for people what they can’t do for themselves. I love it.
Justice League Unlimited needed at least 1-2 more seasons to cover and introduce us to the other heroes of the League.
Some of the new introduced characters in Unlimited had more screen time and storyline while others were shown about 2 times and never said anything.
4:47 that’s the first thing I thought when I saw him he looks like J Jonah Jamison
I miss the DCAU. I watched everything from the start and it is my second favorite universe in all of fiction.
Whats the first?
@@deeday763 The Star Trek universe. Before Star Trek 2009
Sadly, the Bat Embargo had an episode in Bludhaven only have a brief cameo of Nightwing.
HAH! Got me on Nightwing! Clever! 😆
Wally is a better Flash than Barry....There I said It!
I kinda want Michael Rosenbaum to play Wally West/Flash live action. Maybe an older version just before Bart Allen takes over.
@@Paulafan5 I agree. Wish he did it then. I think he could of fit the live action if production was ready for it at the time...this might be a stretch but i think Ryan Reynolds would make a great modern adult in his late 20s early 30s Wally
As a 90’s I agree whole heartedly. I miss Kyle Rayner too!
During the scene where Luthor tries to learn flash's secret identity, the flash is mid coitus with Tala in Luthor's body. They are barely subtle about it.
It was the best of both worlds as they didn't have a problem with using ideas from the Comics. There's some Alan Moore in there I never thought I would see as a cartoon.
As per a SDCC panel three characters they didn't have rights to use Plastic Man, Blue Beetle, and Firestorm. That is why in the episode with Booster Gold they reference Plastic Man but never show him.
Did...anyone seriously miss Nightwing in that shot? The frame stops, he's framed, and he moves. I can test this when it is safe to see friends again.
How about the random appearances by other team iterations?
For instance, the Detroit team defending the Satellite or the Seven Soldiers of Victory against the General.
I’ll never forgive the Bat embargo for preventing a JLU Birds of Prey with Batgirl, Black Canary, and Huntress
The Aquaman arch was really good. It was surprising and serious at the time. It set a new bar for the show.
Actually, the Batman animated series' first episode was "The Cat and the Claw", which premiered on a Saturday morning, where as "On Leather Wings" premiered the next day, which was a Sunday evening, intended to see how the series would do at a time slot watched by mature audiences🤓🤓🤓🤓.
On leather wings was the first episode produced, but Fox aired them out of order
"Fearful Symmetry" is my favorite episode, Question is so good he needs a live action movie.
Gail is a complete see you next tuesday.
I actually have that issue where Aquababy dies. Same issue Black Manta reveals his identity. It’s a key issue, so it’s definitely on my wall.💪🏼
Like many shows that have rebroadcasts, now, tiny parts were removed from some, if not all, of the episodes of Justice League Unlimited when rebroadcast on Cartoon Network. The most noticeable of these, to me, at least, was in the Luthor/Flash brain swap episode. When Tala took Luthor (Flash) behind doors to his bedroom, saying he needed to rest, originally, the response you hear him say is, "Hey! That's not restful!".
