    I wish I had a time machine and could've watched this video when I first started shooting with my DSLR. You broke it down in such an easy to understand way. Thanks Jana

    This has got to be the most simplest way to explain ISO, APERTURE , & SHUTTER SPEED . Thank you !!! All of the other videos I watched as a beginner men make it so much more difficult lol thanks a bunch

    • @cooloox
      @cooloox 8 років тому

      Simple to the point of being useless. You need to understand properly what each control physically does and why you'd adjust it to understand photography properly. For example, if you understand what f-stops are and how they're named you don't have to "remember" that a large number equals a small opening and vice-versa. You will know because you understand what those numbers actually mean.

      But, you see, not all of us do. We're in the LEARNING process. We'll get there, with the help of people like Jana who actually try to help us. Great video, Jana! Thank you!

    This was so so so helpful I've always been afraid to shoot in Manual mode. Can't understand why this is getting so much hate. It seems like professionals have come here just to be hurtful. This is incredibly helpful for a beginner

    I am BEYOND thankful that I found you on youtube. You explained and demonstrated everything so clearly to me, I have given up my passion for photography because people told me it was a hard field, you can't get a job out of it and etc. It has to be my passion because I think about it everyday! I just want to continue to grow in photography. So thank you again for making videos, you're pictures and being such an inspiration to me. :)

    Shutterspeed is not about letting the light in faster (light always has the same speed), but how long you let the light fall on your sensor

    • @gabccy02

      or just simply how fast the shutter close.

    I started with an old k-1000 film camera given to me from a friend. I had other more point and shoot instamatic and auto focus cameras in the past, but was frustrated why there were looks that I saw in magazines that I could not get with those cameras, because I did not know much about photographic theory at the time.
    What I did through a lot of experimentation was to learn how to balance the meter at a chosen aperture, with the shutter speed. When I did that, and had the aperture of my lens at it widest, 2.8 on that particular lens, and I took a shot of one of my friends, and the picture came back after getting developed, I was blown away.
    A nice, sharp picture of my friends face, with the background wonderfully blurred. There was the look that I had been seeking, just like in the magazines. And that started me on my way, and have not looked back since.........

    Please take what I'm about to say as the sincerest compliment. The way you've just explained this makes it really easy for those of us who are learning to work with our DSLR's understand what the functions do and how they affect each other and being able to communicate that in a way that the layperson can understand it is just as important as what you're trying to convey. Thank you Jana. It made a lot more sense to me than when the "experts" just spout off all sorts of terms that I as a beginner can't possibly know. Great job.

It would be so helpful to talk about focusing but also refer to which modes (points, etc.) you use when you shoot formals, bride walking down the aisle, dance etc. Specific examples would be amazing.

    I think the problem with this video is not that its incoherent - it's actually incredibly insightful - but rather that she didn't edit out the pauses and the thinking that happens when most people film live. Jana, this video earned you a sub from me, but maybe either plan your script better, or edit out those umms and ahhs. To err is human afterall ;)

    Jana. Seems like I saw an absolutely unexplainable amount of snarky comments to this video, even considering how many brain-dead trollers there are on UA-cam. Obviously too many people just need to get a life, stop trying to raise themselves up by putting others down, etc. You're wonderful. You're inspired. You're talented. You're a breath of fresh air. So in the words of some ancient Roman: "non illegitimus carborundum". (Very roughly --- and facetiously --- translated: "don't let the bastards grind you down."). Keep doin' what you're doin'>
