Your video on the re-released AMT 1955 Chevy makes me want to get this kit again. I love your purple and white paint scheme. I will use the chrome plated Centerline wheels that came with the AMT 1959 Chevrolet El Camino. Your videos of cars, trucks, military vehicles, boats and aircraft remind me of the modeling fun I had as a youngster in the 1950s and 1960s. Thanks for taking us back in your time machine!
Two-tone looks sweet.... perfect street rod ✌😎 Nice work on the build ! Love the tri-5's... my cousin had a 57' with a tilt fiberglass nose decked out with a full flame paint job, 4 speed, 12 bolt w/ 4:56's and one wicked built 283, dual quad tunnel ram set-up, he went with a Hilborn Injection unit later and the car ran 12's @ 110 not bad the car was still pretty heavy even with the glass nose ! As a young teenager it was a blast roaming the streets in that wild ride.... a real head tuner everywhere we went ! My favorite story: My cousin did engine screaming launch and he went from 1st to 2nd the bolts snapped the were holding down my front seat 😲 I ended up flying around in the back bouncing off the roll cage 😃😂😁 I never forgot that and the Mr. Gasket V-gate inline shifter he was using.... about 6 years later I bought on for my 66' SS ( I should've paid more attention to the " for off road use only " line on the box ! It turned out to be a awesome shifter for the strip but a real pain in city driving well till it was broken in that is 😉
This is awesome. I had been trying to get my hands on this kit for awhile and found out AMT pulled it to re-do the molds. Looks like they did a great job. Thanks again Chris!!
Hi mate I'm from Australia, just watching your videos. I'm a modeller myself and like building trucks cars from time to time, at the moment I'm building a Peterbilt 377 ae..... Don't mind your utube videos picked up some tips along the way.... Cheers matey.
As always, great looking kit!!!!! Never thought about using a silver Sharpie for the trim. I’ve been using Bare-Metal foil for years, which is a pain in the ass to work with!!
I love watching you build because you talk. A friend in 1988 had an 81 Camaro, brown, V8, and had the Cragar SST wheels, which appear the inspiration for the Centerline wheels you mentioned. I really liked the black and purple interior, contrasted by the white and purple exterior! The backseat armrests even had ashtrays molded in...attention to detail
LOL....a little late to the party here (catching up on older builds I missed) you had me rolling at the end of the build, I watch Home Improvement while I unwind at night with my models as well!!!! (Great show....and hobby)
Hey! A little masking tip( this I found years ago.. use SCOTCH frost tape, especially in the tough areas!)( Just make sure you burnish the edges down for a well masked area!( I did that to my 57' Chevy when " chrome spray came out and mine looks like real chrome!
I have the original 1955 HOT ROD magazine version that has opening doors, hood and trunk lid. It has a multiple piece interior which is easier to paint. The detail on your seats is bold where as the detail lines on the seats in my kit are soft. I was on the fence about buying this but I guess that I won't since the chrome is moulded in. Thank you for posting this.
I’m really loving your videos and inspired to build some cars. Being a novice in this area of modelling is live to see how you put the kit together just before your final reveal. It seems to me this is where some of the big headaches may occur. Thanks for all the work you do I’m hooked on the channel now!
Thanks for watching! Filming that kind of stuff can be pretty difficult without a second set of hands or upper camera mounts and it's just me running a camera, so that's why I mention any issues with final fit to the chassis etc and show it as needed.
I just bought myself this same kit I wish you would show how you take that up and get to work I used to paint model cars and build them when I was a kid and I'm starting to do it again now I appreciate any feedback you have it looks beautiful great job
Hey Chris! A funny fact: those decals are coming right out from the woody 29 ford pick up, aren't they? I have those intact and in front of me right now 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Beautiful build man! Have a great time guys!!!
Nice job love it I belive I will build one as well. I've been building models for years gives me the opportunity to just tune out . It takes me back to simpler time . When stores were closed on sundays. Most people had weekends off some of my friends older brothers drove cars like that 55 chevy as an every day driver to school those were the days. Garage bands cool cars were the norm. Love it keep up the good work god bless.
I love how simple this kit is going to be to build as I really did get it to do my first 2 tone and to learn airbrushing. But the molded in exhaust I have to do something about that crap. I just.. Can't. Lol
Super nice and very clean job! I ordered a set of rims because i didn't like the fact of 2 being on the chrome tree and none to match. The one and only thing i would have done was used the Molotow on the trim work. Overall, in my opinion that build is a 9+ out of 10! You knocked it out of the ballpark!
Have watched many of your videos. Enjoyed them all. What type of masking tape do you use when you paint different colors on your bodies. Also subbed you. TYIA- JC’S Garage
I have really enjoyed your model kit review videos and appreciate your modeling tips. I discovered a neat way to black with chrome grills and make lug nut detail on chrome wheels pop. I use Testors graphite metallic enamel paint. It is so translucent that it does not hide delicate detail. I use it to darken panel lines. It is very good for the ribs on valve covers. It is self leveling. I apply it with a paint brush and remove any excess with a cotton swab dipped in paint thinner. Recently I discovered Tamiya panel line accent color. It comes in black and brown. I now prefer it for doing vehicle panel lines. The Testors graphite metallic is still my first choice for accenting chrome wheels, valve covers and many chrome engine parts or dashboard details. Keep up the excellent modeling reviews and inspiring models young and old!
Very nice build. I received mine last week. The purple is very cool. I’m going to do a white/blue paint scheme. I really like the 2 tone look on the Bel Air.
Beautiful car love the purple and white two tone look! I've never built this kit but after watching your build video I'm going to have to get it lol. More power! Lol
Awesome looking 55 Chris!!! I love this kit too. I built several of these and just picked up one of the 80's issues. I'll have to get at least one of this issue too.
Very very nicely done, and loved the two tone paint scheme. If someday you decide to foil the trim, I think it will improve the model a lot, compared to silver paint, or even Molotow chrome. I know there is no definitive way of doing things in model building, but foil is one of those things that really add realism to a model car. Lot's of modelers hate dealing with the stuff, I'm one of the crazy few who actually like foiling, and look forward to this part of the build. Also agree 100% on your comment on foosed up cars. That guy has the Midas Touch backwards, all he touches turn into crap. A lot of people are into his stuff, what proves beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
I've never built this 55 Chevy. I have an old Hot Rod series Revell 55 Chevy sedan custom from 1985 I am working on. It has a lot of detail. Has some flash, but can be easily cleaned off. Think it's a re-pop of an early 70's version. It's the one with opening doors, and trunk.
You had me at "Two Tone" - dang. I like the front seat purple accent and the dash looks so real, BTW, I think you left the radio tuned between stations. Thanks again for sharing...
I got my 55 Kit today, and I'm planning on replicating the 55 Chevy 150 from American Graffiti, using chrome steel wheels and a roll bar from an older 63 Ford Galaxie kit.
Thanks for the nice words, we love all our cool viewers and their friendly support! We'e on Facebook if you don't already follow us, search for hpiguys Workshop
Just a heads up ! as you know this is an older kit and has some issues with flashing. I was aware of that when I bought it. But the kit I got for what ever reason had a lot of flash on the part trees. And even more annoying was the fact that a number of parts were warped ; the engine block, the rear end assembly , steering parts . The engine halves had to be glued and clamped together to get them to line up..Same goes for the rear end as well . The interior assembly rocks on the tunnel of the chassis and I'm not sure if that is by design or not and will be addressed when I get that far in the build. I hope no one else has had the same issues as these . Maybe someone just having a bad day.
I'm pretty new to your channel that's why I'm commenting on late videos. You knocked it out the park on this one. I'm building this one as we speak, 55 bel air was always my favorite car because my father had one when I was little. I thought they called it a "55" because that's how fast it was and when you're 6/7 years old that's fast 😂 anyways I'm a big fan of the AMT models because they always seem to be of great quality. This one disappointed me because of the exhaust pipe being molded into the bottom chassis and if you use the pipes that come out behind the front wheels its 1 of them details when you turn it over it sticks out like a soar thumb. Always great videos on your channel. My favorite go to channel for model building and for great hints. I'm thinking of starting my own UA-cam channel building models , not to be big and famous lol just to add some fun to my life long hobby that I was big into when I was young. I huge on building models starting at the age of 7 or so but then when I hit 16 and found real cars and girls lol I somehow let it slid away until recently when I stumbled onto 1 of your videos and right away I was hooked and needed to start building again. When I was little I remember paying @5 to10 bucks a model so you could imagine how I was when I seen the prices if them today. They're worth it though. I'm a truck driver so I dont get much time working on them and with being a father of the best 9yr old daughter on the planet it kinda limits my time with them. As I started looking into them again though my daughter seems to have an interested in doing them with me so that made me happy as can be. But as the girl she wants the newer sport cars and wants to paint it hot pink and add the girls touch which I think is gonna add to my love of the hobby, think it'll be fun to have her ideas and mine sorta mesh together on a couple builds and I think it'll add a little something into the model building videos that you dont see on UA-cam. Anyways enough of mt babbling and sorry for chewing your ear off . Love the channel and I've learn some new tips from you so thank you.
all ways love watching your vids man! Always upbeat and informative with plenty of entertainment. I build mostly Gundams and Macross kits, but i love to take a break and build classic cars. My favorite kit is kind of recent, the Moebius Chrysler 300B (56 i think..) Thanks again for sharing these awesome vids!
Thanks Rob, it's all about fun! The other guys can have their drama and complaining. We build models here and have fun doing it. :) That Moebius kit is a peach.
This kit can be built as a 4 door with the right modifications. Filling in existing door lines and cutting new ones as well as adding in the posts and extra door handles.
Thanks, yeah, not a personal fan of those cars dropped into the weeds with 4 inch roof and wheels as big as a hula hoop. But lots of people do like them. Not cutting them down.
I'm having a bit of trouble assembling the front end. It's been a long time since I've built a model. What's the best way to align the front end conponents? MY front end isn't as close together as yours.
Great video. I just bought this model. I am having an issue with the Rustoleum Clear coat, It wrinkles when I apply it. Suggestions..???.Thanks again for all of your videos.
I haven't used Rustoleum clear over their color paints in some time now. I started to get adverse reactions too. Not sure what changed that so many have issues now, but I use Pledge Revive It Gloss as my clear over all colors for years now and it works very well and doesn't harm a thing.
Great job I have learned a lot from you and I have built 100s of models starting around age 10 or so iam 59 now hey where can you get those turn tables or did you build them? Anyway great job
Hello! Just got the joker getaway car kit for Christmas... no experience whatsoever on model kits. I tried to paint it and failed miserably. I will have to buy a new shell if I want to finish the project so I started looking for paint brush kits and tutorials/videos on model kits and ran across your channel... been binging on your videos, I love all the detail & effort that goes in every single one of your models. You are an awesome hobbyist! Any pointers for a beginner like what type of glue and acrylic paint to get? I really don't want to give up on this hobby. Thank you in advance.
I like Tamiya Thin Cement and Plastruct Bondene Cement. For paints, craft store acrylics work just fine. Watch my video on painting with spray cans that came out last week.
I love this channel and have learned a lot, but I have to tell you I take exception to your point about how easy the the interior goes in, not in my case. I am still struggling with it after a couple of hours and once things gone wrong it seems to get worse. I must have somehow got the glass in wrong, but for the life of me I cannot get the interior to fit up, what a mess. Any suggestions would be really welcomed, I am at a total loss on this one. .
Well I finally got the tub into the body, it turned out that it was warped and I had to heat it with a heat gun and twist it to semi-straight, straight enough to get it in the body. It was a struggle and took me hours. I removed the glass and re-installed it, but that was not the problem. The lesson I think is that my kit was probably five years older than the one in this video, I had lots of flash and of course this warpage. For me it was one of the worst kits I ever worked on, the end result was so-so. Do not take this as disaparaging this video, just take it as a warning that these kits do change over time and not for the better. Many thanks to hpiguys and these videos, I always learn something new from them.
I was reviewing this again for my '55 and the thought occurred to me too ask if you keep all these great kits? Have photos of them all? of How many have you reviewed and built and have you put an addition on? Keep building - I look forward to each one.
Great Job Super Nice Build up BTW this 2 Dr Post Body is a Newer Tool. Originally AMT had the 55 Nomad but not 2 Dr Post. The 57 was Available as Hardtop. The Drag Exhaust is the Racing/Custom from the 55 Nomad Issue love that it's here This is a Must Have/Mist Build one Thank you as Always Chris. Missed the Taillights Details this kit could be Kit Bashed W Tom.Daniel 55 to Fix the opening to Original Shape too
@@gumbysmodelcargarage4144 Chris (Hpi guy uses a Airbrush but might be Decaning from Spray can paint. There's tons of places for paint for Models. I personally have mostly only used Rattel cans over 41 years I've used Practa, Testors Dupli-Color (Real Auto paint) Krylon both Lacquers and Enamels but not at same time on same car except for TR ck paint effects Chris likely will weigh in later on your Question his tips here apply to all types paints too
Thanks. I am getting into the hobby and their are so many options for model paint. I even bought an airbrush, dont like it to much. It's hard to use to me.
Hello, I list or show the paints used during the final of each build as I use all different kinds of brands. On this one I used Rustoleum spray can purple. Right from the can. It works well for me. I do use an airbrush but only when I need to custom mix a color or get really fine lines that I can't mask, such as pre-shading tanks and other weathered vehicles. Airbrushes come in very handy weathering things because you can apply tiny amounts of paint and gloss, etc. to one small spot/area. For the vast majority of my reviews I use spray can paint, right from the can. To date I haven't taken paint from the spray can to use in the airbrush (decanting). The only real secret is not to put on such a thick coat. I shoot the color coat one time. I get the coverage I need and then I walk away and let it set overnight. Then I cover it with a clear coat from the same brand of paint to avoid any potential issues and let that sit until it dries. I don't buff, sand, wax, etc. The gloss you see is the gloss that comes from the can and the clear coat.
What is part 530 for? There are 4 of them on the tree and they are chrome but they don’t appear in the instructions. They look like dual shocks or possibly exhaust tips.
ARRR, ARRR, ARRR!!! This Purple People Eater looks great. Even Tim would've loved this one.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to watch the channel!
Picked this kit up today. Should be on the bench soon.
Your video on the re-released AMT 1955 Chevy makes me want to get this kit again. I love your purple and white paint scheme. I will use the chrome plated Centerline wheels that came with the AMT 1959 Chevrolet El Camino. Thanks!
I had passed this one up at hobby lobby but looking at this video I'm picking this one up! Thanks! You did it up beautifully!👍🥇💜👏👏👏
Sweet, enjoy!
‘55 Chevy = my all time favorite.
Awesome build. My Dad just passed away in October and his first car ever was a 55 Chevy “beater” as he called it, in 1962.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Two-tone looks sweet.... perfect street rod ✌😎
Nice work on the build !
My favorite story: My cousin did engine screaming launch and he went from 1st to 2nd the bolts snapped the were holding down my front seat 😲 I ended up flying around in the back bouncing off the roll cage 😃😂😁
I never forgot that and the Mr. Gasket V-gate inline shifter he was using.... about 6 years later I bought on for my 66' SS
( I should've paid more attention to the " for off road use only " line on the box ! It turned out to be a awesome shifter for the strip but a real pain in city driving well till it was broken in that is 😉
Thanks!
This is awesome. I had been trying to get my hands on this kit for awhile and found out AMT pulled it to re-do the molds. Looks like they did a great job. Thanks again Chris!!
Thank you Bryan, enjoy your kits!
They need to redo them again. My interior was warped and ultimately would not fit.
Chris, I did one of these in a tangerine color, and it is "sweeeeet"! Nice build!
Thanks!

Thanks a lot!
I really wish this kit had more instructions on how to use the extra parts.
I love it but I wish u did white interior with the purple
Yeah that would look nice.
You can get the kit and do a cool white and purple interior, send me a pic when done man!
all ways love watching your vids man!
That Moebius kit is a peach.
Awesome double nickel. My next build this weekend
Thanks for stopping by the channel and leaving a nice comment!
love it,,great review ,awesome build of my all time favorite car ,thanks buddy ,,take care
Thanks glue sniffer!
Great build. Personally I would have used a metallic purple such as Ford UK's Purple Velvet but that's just a matter of personal choice.
Thanks for watching!
Love that color nicely done
Thanks Philip!
This kit can be built as a 4 door with the right modifications. Filling in existing door lines and cutting new ones as well as adding in the posts and extra door handles.
Another great review and build, thanks Chris.
Thank you!
Awesome Build ! All Foosed Up ... LOL I like that
Thanks, yeah, not a personal fan of those cars dropped into the weeds with 4 inch roof and wheels as big as a hula hoop. But lots of people do like them. Not cutting them down.
I'm myself am a Mopar guy never really got into the tri 5s chevys , I get more heads turning cruising my 'Cuda than a 55 would lol
Hoping Round 2 reissues the old 55 nomad kit. The one that had all the cool gasser parts.
Would be cool!
Love it the 55 turned out sweet Chris
Thanks Jeff!
Nice job love the color combo.
Thanks Wayne!
I'm having a bit of trouble assembling the front end. It's been a long time since I've built a model. What's the best way to align the front end conponents? MY front end isn't as close together as yours.
looks very nice....
Oo man, I love those colors.
Thanks!
Beautiful build! Love that mild style!
Thanks, me too Shane. Nothing over the top.
Beautiful work as always
Thank you!
Nice Job
Great job I have learned a lot from you and I have built 100s of models starting around age 10 or so iam 59 now hey where can you get those turn tables or did you build them? Anyway great job
Thanks, right here!

Just don't let Tim drop a beam on it.
Haha, exactlly!
He'd have yanked the door handle off it or something on the show.
loved that episode he dropped the beam on his wifes car...lol
@@mightkilljacksome1487 it was just a regular wagon not a nomad that they crushed. It was painted to look like hers.
WaybackTECH I shit myself when I saw that at the time 😂 Reminded me of something out of Super Dave Osborne
Nice review and build Chris, thanks for sharing!....Bill
Thank you Bill!
Another beauty.... well done
Thanks Dwayne!
Beautiful brother keep up the awesome work love the color combo
Thanks Thomas!
Do a video of doing the trim one day please
Good idea Jeff!
I was reviewing this again for my '55 and the thought occurred to me too ask if you keep all these great kits? Have photos of them all? of How many have you reviewed and built and have you put an addition on? Keep building - I look forward to each one.
Store many of them, give some away, display a few for a bit.
Great video ! Thanks
Thanks!
@@hpiguy Thanks you
Great Job Super Nice Build up BTW this 2 Dr Post Body is a Newer Tool. Originally AMT had the 55 Nomad but not 2 Dr Post. The 57 was Available as Hardtop. The Drag Exhaust is the Racing/Custom from the 55 Nomad Issue love that it's here This is a Must Have/Mist Build one
Thank you as Always Chris. Missed the Taillights Details this kit could be Kit Bashed W Tom.Daniel 55 to Fix the opening to Original Shape too
What kind of paint you use? Is it always spray can?
Hello,
I list or show the paints used during the final of each build as I use all different kinds of brands.
Thanks Rick!
I've always preferred the 60s-70s muscle cars to the mid 50s Bel-Air style, but damned if this isn't changing my mind.
It's a sweet car.
Congratulations..Nice work on the build
What glue did you the chrome parts ?
I use super glue for chrome and painted parts.
Not a fan of Purple on my own cars but it looks cool on these oldies!!
Thanks!
What is part 530 for? There are 4 of them on the tree and they are chrome but they don’t appear in the instructions. They look like dual shocks or possibly exhaust tips.
Nice man. My favorite all time car
Thanks Danny!
Another great review, Chris.
Thank you!
Nice job
Beautiful !
Thank you! Cheers!
Another winner! 🏆
