As someone who coaches speakers, I love listening to your videos. You speak exceptionally well - very clearly, crisply, packing a lot of actionable information into a short window. Plus, you smuggle a lot of style and helpful high-end b-roll to visually supplement your scripting, keeping things dynamic, hip, engaging. And finally, you get beyond the specs and focus on the pleasure of photography! Keep it up!

Wow, thank you for your kind words! 🙏🏼
Actually, I find it difficult to sit down and speak to a camera, have to do a lot of reading and research before I make a video, But I guess I'm just trying to give useful information that I would have liked to have earlier, while trying to promote critical thinking skills, and crossing my fingers and hoping that people respond well to it 😂

All this recent love I've seen for the X-Trans1 sensor recently has made me appreciate the images I'm getting from my XE1 so much more and has largely eliminated my desire to 'upgrade.' The thing about those early Fujis is that they were very well segmented. Each camera had major pros and cons. The X100 line has (to me) the enviable ability to synch the flash up to high shutter speeds. The XPro1 has the hybrid viewfinder combined with interchangeable lenses. And while the XE1 loses the hybrid finder, its reduced size makes it as portable as the X100 but with interchangeable lenses.

hey there ! I wanted to share my opinion about the X-Pro 1 for starting photography.
The X Pro 1 is a legendary camera, for obvious reasons that you stated in your video. However, that affects it's price, and sice there's a sort of a cult following this camera, the price tends to creep up a bit too much for someone on a budget. (The cheapest X-Pro 1 I could find in France (where I live) was about 450€, which is not cheap for a camera this old, especially comparing the other Fuji cameras of that time).
Also, the X-Pro 1 isn't a safe choice at all. It is very specific : you need to like using the OVF from time to time, which isn't something that everybody enjoy. You also need to be right eye dominant, otherwise shooting might be a bit difficult (I'm left eye dominant, therefore rangefinder style cameras are a no-go for me if I want to shoot quickly, I'm way more keen to SLR style bodies, with the view finder more towards the middle of the camera, allowing the use of both eyes)
Also, if you specifically want the X-Trans 1 sensor for its look, well know that the X-Trans 2 is very very close to the first when it comes to color processing and other specs. It only have a bit of refinement when it comes to autofocus and readout speeds, so don't limit yourself to X Trans 1 cameras.
If you want a rangefinder style body, you can get a X-E1 with the same sensor and CPU as the X-Pro 1 for like a 4th of the price. Not mentionning it is smaller, has a diopter correction. The X-E2 is basically the same but with the X-Trans 2 for about 250€.
For SLR style bodies, well there's the X-T10 and X-T1 for about 200 and 300 respectively those are very good options with the X-Trans 2 as well, they also have more film simulations out of the box, and sometimes a bit more control.
that said, the X Pro 1 is a hell of a sexy camera to start with.
Very nice video, you've earned yourself a sub.
(Edit : I've just watched your review of the X Pro 1, and if I recall correctly, there is an electronic shutter up to 1/32000th of a second in all X-Trans 2 cameras for silent shooting and when you need an ND filter. There is also a "hybrid mode" where it uses the mechanical shutter up to 1/4000th of a second and uses the Electronic shutter when you go faster without the need to change it in the parameters)

    • @Jorge-Perez
      @Jorge-Perez  2 роки тому +4

I think your comments are thoughts are very valid! and will apply to some people out there. However, I will stand my ground and disagree. 😂 The X-Pro1 is a great camera for people starting out, that truly love their craft, and want to get good.
Cameras like this make people shoot with intentionality, and very quickly weed out the people that just want to "be famous" or "look cool" vs the people that genuinely just want to get good and improve their craft, because they love their craft.
It's like learning how to drive, learning with a manual car is always better. It does require more effort, it can be frustrating, and is not for everyone, but it does end up being better for you in the long run.
I also agree with you that rangefinder style designs are not for everyone, I'm sure there's people out there that don't like the design, the same way I dislike the SLR designs. The viewfinder placement on DSLR cameras made complete sense because of the mirror. It had to be there. It was the only way.
However that is not the case for digital/mirrorless cameras, and cameras like the GFX100 prove it. The viewfinder can be anywhere. So it becomes a game of aesthetics and personal preference. But for me, the rangefinder style viewfinder is critical to immerse myself in the moment and in my craft. There's nothing worse than forcing a camera against your face and pressing your nose down, just because old cameras were shaped that way. Makes no sense. (For example, I can't fathom how people use LCD screen to take photos instead of a viewfinder, but if that is their preference and what makes them happy, then who am I to tell them "No")
I do agree with you about the limited shutter speeds on the X-Pro1, it's kind of a bummer. But here in Canada I can find X-PRO1 under $400 CAD, (I bought mine for $300) and a used X-PRO2 is around $1100-1200, And although I'm sure the X-PRO2 is better, the value to cost ratio is NOT there.
Last but not least, I encourage people to be smart about their finances, If they can't afford the X-Pro1, then they shouldn’t be pushing themselves out of their range. However, I have seen many many times how people buy something really entry level and cheap (like you said, the x-t10 for example) and very quickly end up upgrading to something else, therefore spending even more money than if they just started their journey right, with something like the X-PRO1. So it's just a matter of experiences and preferences.
Thanks you for joining the small community, for watching my videos and taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences, I'm sure it can be helpful to people out there as well, I appreciate it! 🙌🏼✨

I went the XPro3 as I couldnt get the 1 in Australia. Very happy. I own 3 canon bodies and 2 sony that I use for work. I wanted something personal that also didn't stand out among people, something discreet and yet delivers a great quality image. I stopped taking my other bodies on holidays for many years as for me they are work tools and live in their bags until needed for a paid job. The other bodies when paired with lenses were just far too awkward and heavy to lug around when on holidays and in some cases would restrict access to certain venues or create issues. The XPro comes with me everywhere. I never get a second look by anyone when in public and the only people who do stop me for a chat are fellow XPro users who know the body. People really bagged the 3 for the lack of easy accessible rear lcd but to be honest, this design was what also intrigued me as I dont want to use the rear screen, I want to concentrate on taking the shot and trusting my settings and not chimping. To date, the photos I have produced with this little powerhouse are superb and it is so easy to take anywhere. Thanks for the video. Cheers from Australia

I find it interesting that most videos on old Fuji bodies and all Leica bodies... It's all about "back to basics" and ditching the "bells and whistles," etc. All of that is a mindset. It's totally disconnected from the body. Like I'm on an A7c... and have the exact same experience. Manual glass, manual mode, ignore all advanced features, shoot single shots in the streets of NYC. I could easily use the super advanced autofocus, clinically amazing GM glass, and rifle off 10 shots a second or whatever. To not do so is simply a choice.
Totally agree about the aesthetic appeals, though. Fuji color science is a bit magical. The lookfeel of the bodies is inspiring. There is definitely something to feeling a connection with a camera. Feels separate from the ideology of approach, though.

I also used a Fuji 90mm wide-angle lens on my 4x5 inch view camera. In my digital days, I used Fuji S5 dSLR cameras and Fuji X-Pro1 digital mirrorless cameras.

If you have the option, then the X-Pro2 is a more future proof choice, the updated diopter, weather sealing, built-in wireless, and higher ISO can make a difference.
Not sure where are you located, but here in Canada the X-Pro2 sells for about $1200 CAD, whereas you can find the X-Pro1 for $350-$500. So it really depends on how much you're willing to spend and your range.
If budget is an issue, then get the X-Pro1 and invest your money in good glass, the glass will carry over when you upgrade to the X-PRO4 or X-PRO5 in years from now.

Nice Video, I have commented previously on your post,s , but repeat certain aspects for anyone else who may be reading, I have had my X100 & XPro 1 from new and quite frankly was so impressed with both that i simply did not feel any urge to upgrade , simply for the sake of "chasing technology" ( which incidentally i could not previously afford to do) In example, i love my ( by now) old Fuji,s . Conversely, I could by now, afford say a Leica M10, I respect this manufacturer , it would be churlish to deny that. But if i bought one would it make me an instant super star photographer overnight ? no !. I agree with your Challenge about " the best camera is the one you have with you". I would declare " The best camera is the one you that you have totally mastered and therefore will get maximum benefit from " longer maxim but maybe you catch my drift? Cheers.

    Each camera is flawed.
The user has to adapt to and accept those flaws/limitations.
Its clearly evidenced by the huge number of pages of “options” you need to specify in its menu. And these are basic operational matters (eg: AF and metering).
Eg: if the AF is great, you wont see any AF stuff in menu asking you to choose what AF options you want. You just 1/2 press the shutter, and the AF instantly locks on…no confusion, no issues..and you just snap.
    Look at White Balance.
It should not even appear on the camera body or its menu. On such expensive cameras loaded with bells and whistles, it should know exactly what WB to set in all situations instead of asking you many silly questions (masqueraded as WB options/modes) as though its so extensively well-featured, which means the system is not really clever.
But because the device is highly flawed, the easiest way out is to split the function (eg AF) into many separate parts by asking you many silly questions (many modes)..single, continuous, eye tracking, animal eye tracking, specify focus spot area, specify size of focusing area etc😂😂 Silly.
Same goes for metering…spot, centre weighted, zone and other mumbo jumbo. All these are UNNECESSARY if the device is unflawed and the technology is honestly effective.
Anyway, we just need the same old 3 things to capture an image…speed, aperture, focus. In modern cameras, ISO is not even part of that equation as each camera’s ISO is not standardized. So, just leave it on Auto ISO. Hence, a camera doesnt need loads of buttons and dials.
Those loads of buttons etc are only necessary because the mftr had no choice but to offer many “modes” caused by the inevitable splitting up of a main task resulting in loads of sub-tasks in the menu (look at the Sonys).
C’’mon…AF and Metering options totally do not need to appear in the menu if technology was that great in today’s expensive cameras where every image would be well exposed and focused.
Whats the use of using a dishwashing machine when you need to spent time to key in “shape of plates” “round” “rectangular” “oblong”, “averagely dirty” “very dirty” “extra round of wash” “turbo hot air drying” That would be so silly.
Look at the AF and Metering “modes” in the menu of each camera😂😂😂
    Silly😂😂😂

Agree.... My Google Pixel phone takes great photos with no adjustments needed. Backlit subject? - no problem... Blown highlights on the viewing screen? - Take the photo and they're gone... I know all about DOF, shutter speed, ISO and can overcome most situations using Manual on my full-frame Sony A7c, although it spends most of it's time in aperture priority. It does annoy me a bit (not annoy, but I can't think of the correct word), that I spent a lot of time reading photography books and practising - when now, a teenager with an iPhone can take very good photos without even trying. My Sony A7c photos still easily beat my Pixel (now a 6a), but the gap is closing, and I think camera manufacturers will have to do something if they want to stay in business. I can't see them improving the hardware much more, so it's got to be software.

I'd really like to get this camera but no one in my country wants to sell it. guess there's a good reason for it.

I completely understand, it can be frustrating, but once you do get one you'll see that it was worth it!
Don't let it discourage you, and you'll find one, alternatively you can subscribe and join the small community because I will be giving the X-Pro1 away in the future. Can't hurt joining and having a small change to win it!
Thanks for watching and sharing a comment as well! I appreciate it! 🙏🏼✨

1 reason to not get the x-pro 1: the preponderance of x-pro 1 videos like this has made it impossible to get a decent copy for under $500.
All the points presented in this video have merit, but when the current price of these cameras is considered, people have to start realizing that at the end of the day you’re throwing hundreds of dollars at very old cameras with aging technology inside them. Right now, the x-pro 1 is a terrible place to start your journey. X-T1 and X-T10 maybe, so long as people don’t make too many videos about them.

Cheaper than a xt1 or xt10, the xe1 has the sale sensor than xpro1.

That is %100 the wrong way to look at life, knowledge and experiences should be shared with those who want to listen. Your focus at the moment seems to be that many people buy it, therefore the price goes up. Have you considered that the camera is worth the 300-500 dollars it cost?
That mentality of "If I can't have it, no one else can" is not a very helpful way to live. But we can agree to disagree.
Good luck in your journey, and thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

The X-Pro1 have gone up in price on eBay for sure, but that is more to do with eBay massively hiking up seller fees. And I mean massively. Sellers are now upping prices to cover these costs. There’s also far fewer being sold as a result, which also affects price due to demand. Without bragging, I bagged a mint copy for £65! That’s about $100? The camera was listed as faulty, but as I suspected the seller had bought it in a bulk buy and didn’t know the camera wasn’t set to shoot without lens turned on. The camera works perfect,y. The key is to be patient and search for unusual listings with bad spellings or mislisted in the wrong categories etc. You can still grab a bargain if you’re prepared to look.

Aging technology/very old makes it sound like the camera is breaking down and losing capabilities like an old person. Wrong. It’s older technology but still capable of taking photos. Photos that has a a film esthetic that later cameras lack. I have a Nikon D810 for shots that call for a DSLR but I still use my D200 and D700 when I don’t need the high speed focusing/lowlight capabilities of the 810. They give a more film like look which what I prefer and why I still use film cameras. They’re “very old” but still work just fine.

@@Jorge-Perez I would absolutely consider it to be worth $300. But not >$500 lmao. The % goes after the 100 btw 👍
Have to say I didn’t expect such an accusatory and poorly thought-out reply (to a valid dissenting opinion) from someone who presents so well. I’ll go ahead and continue being a voice of reason instead of *encouraging* people to blow big portions of their newcomer camera budget on a ten year old camera.
