Worked at both of them as cooks. Both are “microwaved restaurants” (especially the pasta.) I prefer Chili’s mostly. The Chili’s restaurant I worked at was overall more cleaner,organized and the food tasted better to me at least.
Then your locations are not doing things properly and are cutting corners. I work at Applebee's and we have a boiling pot for our pasta's, and we cook most food to order.

Chili's is more of a real restaurant for the simple fact that they get more raw ingredients and make them into something. All their proteins come in raw (except whole breaded chicken breast for fried chicken topped salad, and turkey burgers) guacamole is made fresh daily from whole avacados, pico de gallo is made fresh from whole veggies, raw chicken fingers are breaded (in wet batter) to order... All around better food. Source: I was a chili's cook for 2 years
