  • Quincy Olivari is having a career year at Rice.
He has been named the Conference USA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week twice this year and also became the 39th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. However, the senior sport management major is more focused on the Rice Owls basketball program as a whole instead of his personal accomplishments.
"I was a wide-eyed freshman, but I thought I could turn the program around my freshman year. And that was a goal," he said. "I always told my mom I want to leave a legacy here. And I tell Coach (Scott) Pera, ‘I want to leave this place better than I found it.’"
After Rice, Olivari has dreams of playing in the NBA, but he also already has plans to perform under the lights post-basketball.
"I want to be on TV when I'm done. My mom used to make custom cakes for the ‘Inside the NBA’ crew. And so I used to see them film those TV shows," he said. "My dad used to do high school sports for Georgia Public Broadcasting. Sport management has allowed me to investigate how serious it is and if I really want to do it.”
