I don’t think you can understate the importance of Max Fried to the braves. As good as Strider is, I think most people would agree when healthy, Max is the Ace. One of the few players with little team control left, and an extension getting more expensive by the day.
@@lavs8696lmao what so Max Fried who has a career era of 3 isn’t the ace but Kyle Wright, who has had one great season and the rest have been bad, is the ace of the rotation, even if Fried has been mid in the playoffs doesn’t mean he isn’t the clear ace
A good amount of teams have been adopting this strategy for a while now. It is hard enough to hit the jackpot with just one player, but almost unheard of to have developed and signed as many young stars as the Braves have over the last few years.
As a White Sox fan, I couldn’t agree more. It’s really a coin flip when it comes to this type of stuff. The Braves have great scouting and the results are showing now. The front office is gonna get paid big time, and they’ll continue this trend until they turn into the Dodgers winning their division year after year after year.
I miss Alex Anthopoulos in Toronto… He was doing a great job with the Blue Jays and was regarded as one of the best young GM’s around the league -- So, the team doesn’t offer him a contract extension and just lets him walk for nothing… I’m still pissed off at them for doing that. As an older fan of the braves, don't count your championships before they're won. I'm almost 50 and we've had 2 championships in my lifetime. With the teams they've had, it could've been 10 but it's not even close
@@Lance-Stroll Oh I'm aware. I'm 5 years younger so I was born just in time to suffer the misery of the 80s. Thankfully I was a little kid and had other things to distract me, otherwise it would have been rough going if I were older at the time. Still love Dale Murphy though. My all-time fave.
I know how you feel but this team is different. we will win at least 2 more with this squad. reason being why is team chemistry and our front office knows how to negotiate. our only issue is mid relief. we won the chip recently we are more relaxed and we are ready.
Don't forget to mention how the Braves got max fried from the Padres for a contract dump of justin Upton who didn't do much with the Padres. Dansby Swanson from the Diamondbacks for a struggling Shelby Miller. Also how they dumped The BJ Upton contract and Craig kimbrell who they were never going to re-sign for a ton of these draft picks including one that turned into Austin Riley
Rosario and Ozuna have been carrying the offense the past two weeks. That's how good this line-up is. They never slump. There is too much production. It has been a masterclass to watch Anthopoulos build this franchise. You could see the talent forming, just waiting for it all to come together. It's so satisfying to know he built this team without ridiculous big money free agent signings, or throwing away good prospects for nothing. We have been really lucky over the past 30 years with great GM's. John Schuerholz built a dynasty in the 90's. The same way.
This build was done so well. They got lucky on contracts with guys who grew up Braves fans, they drafted almost perfectly, and they have developed really quick. Strider was a 4th round pick out of Clemson, but touched the majors in his draft season. That's almost unheard of for a 4th rounder. Replaced Freeman with Olson. Replaced a number 1 pick with a viable replacement at shortstop immediately. Imagine losing an MVP caliber player and a number 1 pick, and getting better. It's possibly the best franchise build ever.
Braves fan here. The scary thing that no one is talking about, is that the Braves excel at drafting, developing, and rebuilding pitching; it's an organizational cornerstone. So by locking up a really good infield and outfield for 5+ years without spending a ton.... More arms are coming. An army of them. Edit: 😉
@@RealBatmanz If AJSS can improve his command, particularly with his fastball, he'll be really good with his arsenal. All of his offspeed stuff is good-to-great and I particularly like his changeup. Then they would have to beat the American League champion and I'm not quite fully informed on them yet.
@@yateswebb Braves could have sent a blind, armless monkey to the mound against the mets and yankees and still won. I do think those two series will help with the confidence level of each pitcher.
Well, the Braves players are not really underpaid because most would be in pre-arb/arb years still. The Braves salary total is actually a lot larger than it would be if they didn't sign them. Other teams take a different approach, they prefer to use the money saved during the pre-arb/arb years on young players and sign free agents and go for a win a world series at all costs approach. However, eventually those teams have to cough up the money or lose those young players to free agency. That's why it's so hard to build dynasties. The Braves took a different approach, signing those young players to longer term years (which only look team friendly after the players continue performing, hindsight is 20/20) and buy out their first 2-3 years of free agency. The main downside of this approach is that the salary total is distributed evenly and they are unable to sign any prominent free agents during these players pre-arb/arb years. The upside is that they will have these players for 3-4 years longer than most other orgs would, which increases their competitive window, albeit sacrifices their current free agent signings. IF the Braves never signed these players to long term deals, they could have had an extra 30-40 mill to spend on this season and next, and could have been that much better. Again, it's all a trade off, Alex Anthopolous has decided that he would rather build a dynasty and be competitive every year than to maximize their chances in a short window. As a fan, I like this approach much better, plus you get attached to certain players and it makes it that much better.
The playoffs are such a crapshoot that I really don’t use that as a metric for a successful organization/season/dynasty; it’s just such a small sample size when 3-5 games can end or prolong your season. The regular season “dynasties” the past several years have basically been Atl, Tampa Bay, LAD, and Hou. That’s pretty much it. All those organizations have been very shrewd at drafting/developing and to some extent free agency
There might be some truth to that. What's the difference between 20 and 15 million dollars a year when you might go home to some Caribbean or Latin American country you could live like a king or an emperor. Hell even if you're smart with your money and save and invest some of it properly you could still live like a king here in the US. Plus there could be advertising income coming in even if it's on a local level. So when you make a certain amount of money you can put your money to work to making more money for you.
Ive been telling people this was THE TEAM before they won the WS. Before strider was a starter i knew he was gonna be one of the best pitchers in the league. Seeing everything come together now against all the scrutiny of my friends has been amazing. Go BRAVES, lets get us another one ☝🏻

A huge Braves fan. I believe they have potential to become a dynasty but I think shouldn't be titled that just yet I think they have to reach the playoffs, keep winning NL East and win at least 2 more WS rings in the next 5-6 yrs or 3 by 2030 to be called a dynasty Of course we don't know what the future holds for the team but the core group of this roster is locked up through at least 2027 and in their prime yrs. Plus, some could get (Acuna and Ozzie) their 2nd extensions a few yrs down road. As long as AA is running things in ATL I'm confident this team will succeed for many yrs to come
I would like to see the Braves win multiple World Series in the next decade. It would really be disappointing if it’s the same scenario as the 90’s Braves who could only manage to win 1 championship in a decade they pretty much dominated.
Grew up a Braves fan as a kid in the 90s and have waited years for a team like this. It's so weird to be that team that OTHERS recognize as a dynasty! Exciting time to be a Braves fan!
Bro, this is an inaccurate title. Look up dynasty. Y’all haven’t even got out of the divisional round with this team. Go Phillies. Harper owns y’all. It’s so weird that so many fair weather fans don’t know what dynasty is
With the old playoff format, they’d probably win 2 or 3 within the next 5 seasons, EASILY. This sport just seems to get harder and harder every year, it’s harder to see ANY team build a dynasty of old.
@@donaldmackerer9032 What is making it harder to be a playoff dynasty is the number of games it takes to get to and win the World Series. Now, you have 4 teams getting about a week off after the season, which can (doesn't always) disrupt a teams winning rhythm. I do agree Free Agency is also a big factor. Does a team go all in one major piece, or find multiple pieces at a discount price. Both methods have worked to win. But both methods have shown difficult to sustain. The Dodgers and the Braves are the outliers (Rays too to an extent-they have kind of mixed up both concepts the last few years). Dodgers spend and win (regular season at least) and Braves find ways to convince players to take the hometown discount and win (again, at least regular season).

A dynasty by definition is two or more championships in a row. Until that happens,(in any sport),they are NOT a dynasty. That said, the Braves do have a viable opportunity for one here. They have been smart and have offset the hegemony of big market clubs in signing free agents by preemptively enticing players to take more up front, and thus foregoing a bigger free agency pay day down the road where they clearly would not be able to compete with the likes of the METS,YANKEES,DODGERS,RED SOX,or CUBS (if they were to decide to spend like a big market club),and the like. It’s a great template to follow if you are not on the level of those aforementioned clubs financially and or are simply not willing or not prepared to do so. Well played Braves. Well played 👍🏾.

Just look at Strasberg and Rendon, getting all that money just to do nothing for their team, I’d easily take a smaller contract to help my team out. The way the Braves make their contracts out to players is how every team should, if one doesn’t work out well, it might sting but it’s something you can easily manage
the braves are just so solid, not mentioned is there other pitchers and bullpen iglesias and soroka are some of the best in the bullpen while bryce elder and charlie morton are super solid too
Ozuna is okaiy but not much more than that. Rosario is a guy who you hate being in the lineup most of the time, but then he does things to briefly make you forget why he stinks. Dude's got a 0.2 bWAR and 0.6 fWAR, yet he does things like drive in the only runs in a 2-0 shutout win last night.

Before anyone goes "why doesn't every team just sign their big stars when they're early into their rookie contract" just look at the White Sox
A good amount of teams have been adopting this strategy for a while now. It is hard enough to hit the jackpot with just one player, but almost unheard of to have developed and signed as many young stars as the Braves have over the last few years.
It's a risky proposition, but the Braves found their right guys. The White Sox found some great guys themselves, but their team is still incomplete.

I’m not a Braves fan, but I am a big AA fan, so I’m glad he was able to win a World Series ring (I think everyone would have preferred it to happen in Toronto, but I guess we can settle for Atlanta).
AA is fantastic. Arguably the best GM in the game.

As an older fan of the braves, don't count your championships before they're won. I'm almost 50 and we've had 2 championships in my lifetime. With the teams they've had, it could've been 10 but it's not even close

Don't forget to mention how the Braves got max fried from the Padres for a contract dump of justin Upton who didn't do much with the Padres. Dansby Swanson from the Diamondbacks for a struggling Shelby Miller. Also how they dumped The BJ Upton contract and Craig kimbrell who they were never going to re-sign for a ton of these draft picks including one that turned into Austin Riley
nobody talks about the wizard of ozzie, dude is beast mode
They been blessed to stay healthy, that’s for sure. Good stuff man.
You didn't mention D'Arnaud, who is just as important as anyone else on the roster. Who is also under a very team friendly contract.

With the old playoff format, they’d probably win 2 or 3 within the next 5 seasons, EASILY. This sport just seems to get harder and harder every year, it’s harder to see ANY team build a dynasty of old.
Yeah I agree. Free agency changed everything. Plus there's no money cap on how much an organization can spend on certain players.
