    This is a Timeless Movie...So many funny part's, cool cameos, and Great writing. more movies like this need to be made. I am 42 now, but was 16 when this came out, saw it at the theater. I balled my eye's out like a baby when Bill Pullman's Angelic wife came to him, I loved the line, "French fries or pizza is not a breakfast food", adding a touch of humor. I admit she was beautiful and had a crush on her. The part where Casper showed up in his human form for his selfless deed, along with the music, truly made this a Masterpiece. This Movie deserved so much more than what it was given.

      That was a Phenomenally beautiful Song...the music video should've added the beginning piano sequence, to lead to the Crescendo. I had Jordan Hill's Album CD at the time, so many great song's on it. "How Many Times", "Too much Heaven" with the Bee Gees, and the Casper theme, "Remember Me this Way". I think Dianne Warren wrote the music for the song.

    • @brandonspain12345
      @brandonspain12345 2 роки тому +5

      The original 1940s cartoon hinted that he suffered depression and always was indelible that he was dead. He wanted to make friends so he can feel like he's alive again and when he's rejected, he tries harming himself, by lying in train tracks, drowning himself with a rope/rock, or jumping off a cliff. Only to be reminded he's already dead and is damned to suffer. I never got the sense that he was the ghost of Richie Rich considering he and Casper crossovered together in comics. But I am happy they went back to Casper originally being a human than being born as a ghost by magic or whatever.

    9:40 Friendship is a real town in Maine, even if it wasn't the one used in the film. Also, there's a lot more to Maine than just Stephen King; it's more likely the location scout picked Maine because of how beautiful it is in the fall, and it was cheaper to film here at that time (see also: Jumanji)

    I love the music for this movie, especially in the third act when Casper becomes human for a short time. I love that this movie adds subjects such as grieving and dealing with death. Those are mature things that a movie like this can do. It's really sad to hear that Casper died of pneumonia because I've had it three different times growing up and I could've very well lost my life during one of them.

    Bonus Fun fact: Christina Ricci had since disowned the movie, and said "Looking back, that film sucked. It made no sense, I'm supposed to fall in love with a ghost? How does that work? He's a cartoon and 50 years older than me." But she would later admit she was tired staring in kids movies and wanted more raw roles. (You can she her expression when she was asked if she would do more sequels on a ET interview and it shows.) This is one of if not the reason why Casper 2 never happened in the late 90s. Basically she became the Bill Murray of Ghostbusters 3, which is a damn shame.

    It wasn't live action. It was 100% animated. Even the setting was animated.

    I rewatched this for the first time in years the other day, and I think it holds up brilliantly. Casper's Lullaby is still one of the most haunting, beautiful songs I've ever heard. I also think it was a wise choice that after the sad scenes of seeing Kat's mom and Casper in human form, to end with a bang on such a fun outro song. So many great choices. And the cgi is honestly so good considering! I think it helps that they're allowed to be done in a cartoonish way b/c I think the hardest thing to pull off with cgi are realistic human characters.

    • @nicksorenson940
      @nicksorenson940 Рік тому

      Casper is probably one of those few cartoons turned live-action movies I grew up with that still kind of works for me apart from the nostalgia. Maybe because Casper and the trio are able to retain simple cartoonish designs while also looking like "real ghosts", and in the context of the movie you're still able to buy into the reality that they had been real people once and aren't just cartoons when you see live actors like Bill Pullman and Cathy Moriarty appear as ghosts themselves.
      Other times when they try to adapt other classic non-human cartoon characters to live-action that are more flesh and blood than Casper I'd often find the end result to be less appealing than the initial cartoons when translating them into CGI, with more realistic looking eyes and hair, making you question if they should have even been adapted into live-action in the first place. I may not have been hearing very good things about the new Tom & Jerry movie that came out about a year ago now, but I have to give them props for actually wanting them to still look like the same 2D cartoon characters in CGI for a change when they could have easily gone the realistic route again.

    There's a deleted scene where Kat looks through a photo album and see a picture of Casper's uncles in human form. also one of Zelda Rubinstein reprising her role as Tangina and the uncles shoot her up the chimney.

    • @brandonspain12345
      @brandonspain12345 2 роки тому +3

      The full script is online and there's SO many scenes taken out. One scene I wished was in the movie was near the end where Casper's about to bring Dr. Harvey back to life but the Trio stop him, not wanting him to be a human again and wants Casper to do his chores instead. Casper stands up to them, growing larger with a demonic voice shouting at them "AND DON'T CALL ME BULBHEAD!" With the Trio flying away in fear. This would've concluded Casper's sideplot of him finally standing up to himself and the uncles get what they deserve. Some scenes would also be reinforce into the 1996 animated series like the song "Fugedaboudit"

    As a kid growing up during the 90's who's always loved movies and going to the theater, there were a lot of movies during that time that either disappointed me or left me underwhelmed (either lackluster sequels or movies that I set my expectations too high for). This was NOT one of them. A 90's classic for sure, and a perfect example of taking an old property and modernizing it without making the characters the butt of the joke. Throughout the 90's there were WAAAYY TOO MANY movies based off old tv shows where they simply placed these characters into the present day (Brady Bunch, Beverly hillbillies, Leave it to Beaver, etc...) and the joke was always the same: Wouldn't it be funny if these old, outdated characters were living among us today and had no idea how to socialize in the modern world?
    It's a miracle the Flintstones movie actually took place in the time/setting the show was set in.

    You know, this movie actually fits in timeline wise with the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Why was Ray by himself? By this point, Venkman went into advertising and Winston went into financing with Egon going off to Summerville. Kinda creepy how well that works.

      I believe it was confirmed by Aykroyd or whoever that Casper (1995) is canon to the Ghostbusters universe. So this movie is a weird spinoff to the Ghostbusters movies along with Ghostbusters 2016. Let that sink in.

      The shorts from 1945 - 1949 Were really dark and had a gritty post WWII atmosphere. Even the house Casper stays when meeting his first friends looks broken down. It felt grounded and real at times. None of the animals he befriends talked either. I wish there was a new Casper movie that sticks more closer to what Seymour Riet originally intended for the character and the more realistic grounded world.

    Even when I was a kid, I thought it was stupid that Casper (as a ghost) was depicted as a child (maybe 7 or 8 yrs old) then when Casper turned human, he was made to be a teenager. That just made zero sense to me

    • @brandonspain12345
      @brandonspain12345 2 роки тому +2

      I hated the ending. It just feels in character for Casper to want to be a human. It seems like they were going with the message of giving up the things we want the most to make someone happy, and learn to appreciate who you really are like the cartoons message. Only to ruin it by making him a sexy 90s teen for a few seconds and have millions of fangirls gush over him, wanting him to stay as a human forever. It would be like if in Spider-Man 2, Doc Ock sacrificed his dream and died only for NYC to still blow up. And this was a time when every movie had to have a sequel, What if this had a sequel? How tf could you make a ghostless Casper, and his adventures as a human. Who would want to see that!?!

    Fun fact: Steven Spielberg wanted Casper to be like the 1990 TMNT movie with it's tone since he and his son loved it so much and approached the director of that movie 3 months after TMNT was made but he turned it down atyer being burned out of TMMT's success but he admitted to regret the decision. So The Crow director, Alex Proyas was then approached to direct the movie and wanted it more darker, less comedic and more deconstructism. His approach was to make it like Wizard of Oz where it's timeless, fantasy like and more mature themes for children. (Hmm a timeless fantasy movie with deep and darker tone? Basically Return to Oz. Awesome!!!) But he and Universal clashed their differences and he left weeks before production began. Supposedly, Silberling had to be shown by the already used concept art and models, meaning Whipstaff was originally meant for Proyas's vision. He would later say he too regretted leaving the project but disliked the movie we got, feeling it was a missed opportunity and felt the emotions came off forced. (I can see where he's coming from since The Crow and parts of Dark City were kinda heartbreaking)

    My theory as to why Casper can't crossover even after his fathers death is that he's a very special kind of ghost. Everyone is put on this earth for a reason and Casper was so sweet and friendly in life that the mortal realm could not bear to be parted from his memory when he died so young. Instead of being stuck with "unfinished business" he has a new lease on life (or should I say afterlife) of spreading friendship as a spirit.
