- I thought I'd share our clock's chiming at 12o'clock with you and give you a view of the chiming mechanism at the back. It chimes on each quarter hour and we were told that it may have an 1930s English movement but we aren't sure. The face and the glass may not be original but the cabinet is in perfect condition. Comments and any useful information about our clock are most welcome!
That 1930's clock is probably worth a fortune today, especially since it actually works. It truly sounds beautiful.
You can find these at most antique stores or junk shops, but most of them are broken or Missing parts. Getting it fixed is the expensive part
150 bucks
I have a mantle clock from 1912. It is a heirloom from my grandma that had passed away several years ago. I had it repaired recently and love hearing the chimes again. My grandma had several grandfather clocks as well and I'd hear them chime all the time in her house
It’s worth less than how much it costed when it was new
@@Cobesclocks How would that be possible? It's a rare antique that's in good shape.
I remember visiting my grandparents and hearing this growing up. I didn’t think much of it then, but it’s really so pretty
These chimes sound so beautiful that I had tears for some time. Yeah, I literally cried because it’s too beautiful for me to handle.
Oh, I remember my grandmother had one of these, and I loved to hear it chime at the top of the hour. No wonder I enjoy visiting London and hearing Big Ben.
merseyheart my grandparents had one of these too
Oh wow, I love this! It takes me right back to being at my grandmothers house :)
Monica Mac same for me. My grandparents had one too
She just died this morning, I miss her so much I'm so sorry grandma
Same!
this is what i was thinking! except it’s my great aunt :)
Iu
I miss you, Grammy and Pappy 💕
Beautiful little gem of a wind-up!! It's got a personality all its own. Never more than 15 minutes from reminding you it's here, and every hour what great mechanical condition it's in!!
I never tire of that sound.
I have my grandfather clock in my living room my dad build for my mom birthday. The clock is 36 years old it works.
i remember someone opening the back and letting me watch, was a long time ago...... Brought back some Memories thank you for sharing :)
Isn’t it funny how age changes your views! I remember my grandma having a similar clock and in my early years thought it was ugly and for “old” people, and that damn tick tocking! I’d love to own that clock now! Such a beautiful thing, and that damn tick tocking........….......a wonderful peaceful warm sound that eases away all my stress and worries.
I just bought a very old 'Napoleon Hat' mantel clock with Westminster chimes. [ The same melody in this video] The clock cost me £40.00 on a Facebook selling page. Have had to persevere as old clocks don't like being moved. In short, after 4 days it's in time and strikes on the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and the hour.
The sound takes me back to my childhood and Grandmother's house back in the late 50s.
I don't turn the chimes off - to hear them at 4am for some reason is bliss.
Am glad I was able to get it going as a local clock repair Co. will service such clocks - their prices START at £690.00 + tax @ 20%.
Wow! That’s vastly over priced. If the clock was worth thousands of pounds maybe, but £690 + VAT takes it up to £828 for a 40 quid clock?
When I was just a young boy my grandparents had a clock like this on there mantle that had the same chime.
We lost them some years ago now and the clock stopped working long ago. But is still in the family (tho sadly not with me).
Hearing this again after all these years.............. I just don't have the words.
I miss my grandparents so. And the sounds of that clock!
I’m sure you could find a clock repair specialist in your area who could fix it
@@York22 Sadly my uncle still has the clock, and he still has not had it repaired.
I have been trying for years to get it from him. It was a gift to my Grandfather from GM for 30 years of service.
@@BadmunkyWRX I hope you can get it fixed someday
Have you offered to buy it from him?
@@jazzman1626 Several times Yes.
Without a doubt one of the most beautiful sounds in the world.
I agree.
Thank you to everyone who has commented on this video over the years - very much appreciated! The clock continues to take pride of place at home and chimes beautifully throughout the day and night.
stillfindingmyway best clock ever!
Does it ever wake you up during the night?
It even does this at night..??!
who are the people that made the clock do you know
"Throughout the night" is the problem.
That chime accompanied me throughout my childhood as we had a clock like that.
Just bought one of these at an antique store for $45. I am so looking forward to hearing it throughout the day!!!
If you want to enjoy this then don’t play Five Nights at Freddy’s 4
You have been warned you should never buy clocks from antique stores they will always break.
So beautiful .westmister chimes are my favorite clock chimes especially this one ❤️❤️❤️
My dads is from the 1930s looks identical to this, it now sits on my mantle peace, when he was alive he had it refurbished when it chimes I think if him as he loved his clocks, I love watching the insides work and the hammers chiming away its a work of art
this brings back memories of my grandparents house
What a beautiful clock! It’s wonderful you’ve taken such good care of it and it still sounds amazing. My grandparents had a clock like this
Still enjoying the chime in 2019 👍🏻
Sounds so beautiful!
I NEED THIS CLOCK
+Miles Tails ? why?
gunner6084 it's awesome that's why.
I have one exactly like that
Seriously Rabid Gaming Tell me where I can buy!
Muhammed Ahmed any good antique shop
I heard this chime when I was at my grandmas house it had a door bell and it played this chime oh memories back then I miss my childhood so much 😥😢😭😢
The Royal Castle in Old Castle Square in Warsaw the old clock tower working today my aunt apartment is near the castle the clock chimes beautiful in the early evening and morning playing beautiful chimes echo threw old Warsaw downtown Poland. It beautiful
Just got old clock from my grandma's house still brand new in box. Says it plays this chime. Thank you for the video I shall hang this clock promptly
I just bought one similar to this yesterday at an antique store. Mine has the exact same movement and hands. It even sounds similar to this one.
That sound is so pure and rich!! What a treasure! I have a mechanical Strasbourg Manor wall clock, and while it keeps good time and looks nice, I don’t care for the sound of its gong. It’s just a metallic clang.
"What have you brought home?"
"CLOSE THE DOORS"
Great, very stout chimes. Good tuning, I love it.
I just Love that Beautiful sound of the chime clock. Thank you Stillfindingmyway! 😁
Wow you kept it in really good condition for it to be over 85 years old
Oh my, time for tea! :D
Riley Jones Big Ben Fan lol good one

XD
I love old clocks
I have five mantel clocks, one grandfather clock and six regulator clocks. At the top of the hour it sounds like a cathedral because they are all westminster chime.
I don’t quite recall where our old Westminster Clock came
from, if indeed I ever knew. It was best not to enquire when things just turned
up at 80 Moffat Street. Its case was a rich brownish red wood, quite elegant
and it took pride of place on the mantle top of the highly ‘Zebo’ black lead polished
fireplace, surrounded by a pair of equally polished brass vases made out of shell
cases salvaged from some bomb site or other. The clock went...sometimes, and sometimes it didn’t.
My patient dad, who wasn’t really my dad, found a simple formula to make it
work, namely he put two pennies under the back right hand foot and I watched
him, tongue sticking out just so to aid him, do this job time and time again with
monotonous regularity and infinite patience. Finally, so placed, the pendulum
would fall imperceptibly forward and begin to gently rock with a rhythmic almost
hypnotic tick.. tock.. tick.. tock. Slowly the ultra thin blue black iridescent hand
would sweep round the white mother of pearl face and on the half hour would
chime most sweetly and melodiously; ding dong ding dong, doubling up on the hour,
followed by dong dong according to the hour. Dad would then sit back in his
fireside chair, pick up his nightly paper, cast a disproving look at mam, and
adopt a mission accomplished look of satisfaction. Whilst his beloved clock
moved, all was well with his world. I hear it still for it periodically echoed
through the house, throughout my childhood. But let’s not get too complacent here, not just any old penny would do, those pennies had to be exactly
right. I can still see them. Two frozen in time images of a bald headed and heavily
bearded George the 5th were the only coins thin enough to do the
trick. Those pennies were almost black,
the surfaces worn smooth by a million hands and so therefore, that much leaner than
their newer brasher younger counterparts. The clock and those two coins were
made for each other. The next day when the gas went out, mam took the coins and shared them equally between the two
meters. Dad would go berserk. Now bearing
in mind neither of my parents had a watch till they became dirt cheap in the
1950’s, so in order to know the hour, one of us kids would be despatched up to their
bedroom to bring down the old alarm clock with the brass bell on the top and
with the harsh intrusively loud and much quicker tick tock! Inevitably, as the day ended, dad tamped down and secured the fire safely behind the all embracing
fire guard, turned the heavy black key in the equally black lock and drew the bolts
top and bottom on the back door, turned out the lights and wearily climbed
those ultra steep stairs and made for bed. When he’d undressed down to his
underwear, sat down on the edge of the bed and took off his shoes, did he go to
pick up and wind the alarm clock for his morning call, only to realise it was downstairs!
As a sign of respect to him, as soon as the meters were emptied, mam would put those
two coins back on the shelf for his attention that night. I recall once, he
bought home from his work some super strong industrial glue which had to be
melted on the fire and he joined the coins together for what he was sure would
be forever. I think Shakespeare must have known our mam for the next time the
gas went out.....needs must when the devil drives.....

The longest comment EVER!!!
Great story. You told it so well, I could picture it happening. I well remember those blackened, smooth pennies.
Yes i have one my uncle gifted it to me, its a smiths of derby and about the same age i believe, its in for a repair and clean up. thanks beaut to see and hear 👍😁.
Such a pretty sound for a clock like this.
As sands through the hour glass. So are the days of our lives.
What an absolutely beautiful chime! I envy you to have such a beautiful clock :)
That’s a smiths enfield movement. Great little clock!
We have one of these it belonged to my great grandmother
I have always love the westminster chimes melody as a kid, on. I even like the bong at the end of the chime on the hour because it actually sounds welcoming vs certain ones sound really haunted to some people as if I were in a Halloween themed setting. Where as this one would sound very happy to see me. But generally for me, no clock chime melody or ring is ever bothersome to me.
This makes me cry. In a nice way
That is so cool. Reminds me of childhood. Thanks for uploading!
My brother gave me on of these and as I left his house he shouted at “ahr lass it’s broken you can fix it” well I never did, too much money and sat waiting for a slack month for me to find money, a clock repairer and time. 18 months later my beautifully generous, highly energetic, competively sporty brother was taken from me at 56 years of age in just less than 20 minutes alone on a kitchen floor. No time to say I love you. So his clock is sat here ticking and chiming but I never asked him what the three different holes are for. Can you advise. Ps to all readers when you kiss someone goodbye do it as though it’s the last time, hold them breath in their smell and feel their hair in your face. You might never get chance again
I'm sorry to hear that. But Hopefully I can help a bit. The "3 holes" you're referring to are in the face of the clock I assume. These holes are where the winding key is inserted for the 3 different springs: the left one is usually the Westminster chime (like this video) the center is usually the timepiece's spring and the right one is usually the hour chime (also like this video) I'm not a clock repair expert but I've repaired a couple over the years. If you've got any other questions feel free to ask!
@@trustyoldiron5416 ah Thankyou
One hole is to wind the clock, one is to wind the Chimes and the other is to wind the strikes every 15 minutes. I have five of them

Yasss I’ve been looking for this sound forever thank you so much I feel like I owe you!
Very Good Clock.
A friend of mine had a clock like this and I remember it going off all the time when we were in her living room
What a beautiful clock. I'd love to own one.
I have a clock with an identical movement. Yours is made by the German firm Petersen, as is mine. Another company, Fontenoy produced a very similar movement, virtually identical in fact. For a clock from the 1930s it is a good quality clock. (And its a little out of beat btw)
I NEED THIS CLOCK NOW!
This made me cry ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!
Sure is
great tick and chimes thnkyou
this is beautiful
So my grandparents had one of these, this brings back some memories
My father and I have a mantle clock similar to this one. It's sitting on top of our entertainment center in our living room, right over our TV.
0:26-0:35 This uses the same kind of hour from Barney Waiting For Santa!
I wish I would have that clock
very nice clock
The peaceful chimes of this little mantel clock is making me sleepy.
Love the clocks face
now that's a beautiful sound I want to hear :)
They knew how to make clocks back then.
Hi I have a Kienzle as well -- I like your video. Mine is here too.
Very nice
It's very musical, compared to what I would think clock chimes would sound like.
I love it
I use to have a grandfather clock that my grandfather left me when he died that use to play Westminster chime but sadly I lost it in the fire
A house fire? 😢
@@deletedaccount3187 apartment fire
I have clock case similar to this except made by E Ingraham. I believe this clock is British made by the tone of the chime.
beautiful!
glorious!
Nice!
You may be able to tell it is a Fontenoy by the dial, if you compare it to other clocks...Fontenoy is even possibly french or german.
Fontenoy is French
Wow! My clock needs to hear this!!!
My aunt and uncle have a clock like this at their house. But it's been dead for a long time. Every time you look at it, it's 5.40!
Well then it works twice a day!
thetoolbox112394 Did they ever get the chance ta get it fixed? Or how was it dead? Battery or was the whole thing kah-put?
futuramabender20 They have not fixed it; the clock just sits on the shelf, for decoration, I guess. I'm not sure if it was the battery or the whole thing.
So whut clock do they have now?
+thetoolbox112394 well its right twice a day then .. jeff ..
This exact clock is at a flea market close to my house, and it's only 60.00! I'm thinking about getting!
that’s a bit pricey for this clock. it’s a common german made ww2 era clock, labeled foreign as during and after the war the imported clocks from germany were labeled foreign. you could find a better deal, they are worth about $60, you can find some from $5 - $40 but if you really want to go ahead.
If everything works on it, go for it.
My stepdads parents gave him theirs, it has their last name and hes supposed to pass it down. It rings every hour and at first I thought it was super annoying but now I feel weird if I stay at other people's homes and I don't hear it. 😂
This is a "Smiths Enfield" clock movement.
Before: a beatiful Sound
Now: Is fnaf 4 chime
Just like my grandads old clock
0:19 Oh no. There are 3 ruined toy bears with sharp teeth on my bed and there's a monstrous fox in my closet
Caramba, que bonito!
Amazing!!! thank you!!!

Hi i love your channel
If I had to pick one thing that gave me anxiety it would be the last 12 chimes of a clock 😐😐😐

I have beautiful grandfather clock in the living room made by my dad for my mom birthday
They are for winding the clock, one for the chime train, one for the time train and I was never really sure what the third one was, maybe speed, but not sure.
Ini adalah Jam yang sering aku lihat !
Welcome to London
I think my grandma had that same clock
Tea time!
Out of the syncopated compass. Correction required through correct leveling.
I have a 1930s mantle clock similar to that, except the one I have runs on electricity, so you have to plug it in.
Where can I buy one like this ?
I play this to fuck up the minds of the people who i live with because there isn't a loud clock in my house.
Is this for sale?
