Very pleased your friends bought this one. The dial is lovely. The chimes are the main draw of course and beautifully: * Deep * Resonant * in-tune - most important I've seen several of these over the years. Gaius, Scotland
From about 5 seconds into the video we get some close-up looks at the grain of the case timber. Am 95% sure it’s Oak with a tiny probability of Walnut. Oak was extensively used for long case clocks of the ‘20s and 30’s, not only due to Oak being the ‘King of Timbers’, but to a new Oak supply coming online as a result of Japan’s extensive harvest of Chinese Manchurian Oak forests. Mahogany tends to have less grain than Oak and is usually distinctively red in colour. It was an expensive timber so less likely to be used for bigger jobs like a long-cased clock (though many large, grand dining tables were of Mahogany…). Does the little hanging ball silence BOTH sets of chime bars?
Hi, lovely clock! I recently purchased a 1930s grandfather clock and have been trying to determine who manufactured the movement as there is not a makers mark on the clock movement at all, just a couple of numbers. My clock has similar weights, weight chain and chain eyelets as yours, as well as a similar pendulum. Through a lot of searching and comparing parts, I believe the movement in my clock to have been manufactured by Haller, and the case by Gomersalls, Blackpool. After looking at your pictures, I believe your clock may have the same origins. Regards Adrian
Magnificent It has a haunting chime, rich with depth. I love it! The deeper the chime, the grander the clock. I wonder what it would sell for??? Don't tell me.
Slide the movement out and see if it,s stamped with a manufacturers name on the rear plate. No guarantees it will be as many were left blank, especially if one company was using another,s movements. Common practice in the 1930s. While almost certainly German,Urgos is only one of numerous possibilities. No two clocks sound identical, even from the same company.I have three Enfield,s (among others) and they all sound completely different and even though the movements are the same, the chime blocks differ slightly. There are many examples of British manufacturers mating German or French movements to British chime gongs,so any combination is possible. Tymo.for example, often used Gufa movements. If you change the chime hammer pads you will change the sound of the chimes,so keep this set for as long as possible.
Logan Pettit Its not funny, everyone came here for the chime while the uploader of the video just keeps on talking shit! Its kinda funny why people in yourube JUST dont get to the point I bet we will save like 100000 man hours per day
OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. WOW WOW WOW. I am playing your clock at top volume in my house at half past midnight. I'll be shot. ONCE MORE. AH THERE SHE GOES. AND AGAIN. DRAG IT BACK AGAIN. AAAAHHHH YES. Music to my ears. A clock made in the 1800's or the 1930's. For me the 1930's. If you go 1800's you miss out on those deep Westminster chimes. Boy those Westminster chimes. Thanks for uploading
Nice clock, wish it was mine :D The chimes are awsome, not like the modern ones that sound much higher. The dial and the hands look a lot like on Junghans clocks, could it be that this one is a Junghans ? You say you belive that it is an Urgos movement, can you take a look at it ?
IF ITS BROTHING YOU AT NIGHT AND WHAT YOU CAN DO TURN IT OFF NIGHT AND IF CHIMING AT YOU NIGHT AND WE DO NOT WANT THAT CHIME AT NIGHT WHILE YOU SLEEPING AT NIGHT WE DO NOT WANT CHIMES AT NIGHT WHILE YOU ARE IN THE NIGHT
Very nice sound! Plus, for the courtesy of you and others who view this, there are actually lyrics for the Westminster chime and they are below if you want to read them while listening or sing along when it is played on the hour, which occurs at the 5:26 mark. Lord, through this hour, be Thou our guide. So, by Thy power, no foot shall slide. These words are based on Psalm 37:23-24, where David the psalmist declares this: The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and he delighteth in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand.
futuramabender20 Actually your question was never answered and it wasn't stupid. ;) It is rare to see military time on a face clock like that. Normal face clocks just have numerals 1-12 and that's it, no military time.
hi there thats is the best grandfather clock i have ever seen and the sound WOW WOW WOW that is the kind of grandfather clock i'm looking for it is SO BEAUTIFUL WOW O WOW I JUST LOVE IT i last my one in the 2010 22 fub christchurch earthquake thank you for your time Richard
I love this clock so much that um going to build one after it. It will be seven feet tall and two feet wide and one foot deep. The face will be 16 inches wide witch buy the way i will have to custom make. It will have a Urgos triple chime movement.
update! i got a few clocks that sound as throaty as this one, turn of the century junghans wall clock that announces its presence with a haunt . and one other below it that sure lets you know it exists lol
That is BEAUTIFUL!!! The cabinet, the face especially and that chime is the best I've ever heard. I would love to have this clock!
Wow! Childhood video!
Wow, you are so right, man! Very gorgeous and I LOVE THE CHIME!! You are so fortunate to have a grandfather clock like that!

3:50 What do you think if this Grandfather Clock Can Play The St. Michael's Chime?

Now THAT'S the sound you hear when your time has come, and the moment of reckoning is here.
No. Just no

The Westminster Chime is my favorite!
Mine as well Nothing like the Westminister Chimes I've heard them call on my Mantle Clock and Family clocks that play this Chime. Also on a Doorbell
Music Guy 22
Cool
My favourite is probably Westminster or Whittington I'm not a big fan of st Michael it seems a bit like Whittington with some of the notes randomised
amazing chime
Could I please request to hear that beautiful clock chime midnight as it sounds so ultra amazing.
Please find out more information on this clock. The manufacturer and model number if possible. I'm going to be searching for one of these.
Without speak is good
Could you tell me is there a sleep mode for the chimes ? As beautiful as they are our visitors are finding them a bit loud at night
can you make a video with the movement?
Respect for this type of clock. I've always been like when the clock began to chime. The sound of the bell is so strong that I was always scared
Like in 3am
Sounds like a howard miller grandfather clock

Amazing clock. Sounds like a Mauthe to me.
Gustav becker or Dufa?
Sounds like an Urgos in a Junghams case, (I think)
Reply: What’s that clock chiming when you are turning the gc’s Finger?
3:29 for those with no patience. 5:26 for the grand finale.
Thanks.
