Hi, thanks for making these videos. You live in a pretty place to fly. I am looking at one, what’s the transition from a 172 to a Glastar like? (Trigear). Have a great day.
Hi Greg- thanks, Maine is an amazing place. Feel very grateful to be able to live and fly here. As for transition to trigear: The biggest thing that sticks out (for me) is that it doesn't slow down like a 172. With 20-30 of flaps on a 172, you can gain lift but also create a lot of drag. With the GlaStar, the flaps add lift but not nearly as much drag. That took a bit to get used to. The wing also flies differently- with the 172 you have a much mushier stall- the wing flies, sort of flies, then mushes into not flying. With the GlaStar the stall is pretty mushy but on landing the wing is more of an on/off switch, you're flying and then you're not. The GlaStar is pretty forgiving but I could be a little sloppier on airspeed with the 172. The last comment is that I had significantly less elevator authority than on a 172 so that makes control finesse harder (for me). Overall I do miss the back seats every now and then but I don't miss the certified world. I like the handling and having now gone tailwheel, I'm excited that I was able to do that and not purchase a different airplane. If you're interested I'd say the single best thing to do is go to the GlaStar forums: forum.glasair-owners.com It's the best $40 you'll spend. You will get a lot of opinions but most are gained by experience so its a great place to search for a well trodden question or post a new one. Good luck!
Im thinking about buying one of these on floats we need more vids like this.-They should have a DVD on the build but they won.t make one. Question do you know were to get a normal throttle opposed to the pull nob?
@@lincolnb3415 Ah thanks I ment the pull back and forth like the air liners have but smaller ive seen them in some light sport with car engines. The Searey amphib has one.
Super multi-function: not only holds the tail up but holds beer...Great engineering :-)
Great video thanks for sharing
Great Video! Thanks for taking the time to make it.

Not quite sure what you mean by normal throttle? Like a cub/piper style one? If anyone has it, Spruce would have it.
