I enjoy your videos because even though you are talking through most of the videos, you aren't just talking to fill in space. You aren't telling us the obvious, telling us that we can do it with "this" or with "that". Your videos are really peaceful and enjoyable and I learn something new with each one. Thank you!!
I loved this, I am new and have not really done much as far as tumblers go, but do you have to sand all the tumblers before doing anything on them. I really love how the trees look with this technique.❤️❤️
Thank you 😊 unless you’re using a pre prepped tumbler, sanding the surface of your cups just a little bit will help them last longer. Just rough up the surface a bit, nothing too intense!
I’m so happy I found this. I just ordered some new micas and wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them. One question I do have is did you apply a layer of epoxy before you did the tree line?
Loving this technique but I have a question, do you have to mix the mica powders in epoxy to activate the “magic” on a black tumbler?? Could you swipe the powder over the cup and will it give that color and then add epoxy on top or no???? This is just glorious!!!!
Great question! You dont need to mix with epoxy to get them to show up that way on black. You could just go straight in with the mica then add epoxy on top ☺️
Thank you! You can! But Im not sure how you would create this exact look. Maybe with some micas and paints? Im not too familiar with the cup making process for epoxy free!
thanks for subscribing! I lightly sand the tumbler to make sure its smooth before adding the final coat. This step is more important with glitter tumblers, but i always sand prior to the final coat to make sure the cup is totally smooth when finished.
This is beautiful, thank you for showing us how to do it. Did you wait 20 minutes after mixing the mica with the epoxy before you started putting it on the cup?
Thank you! No, I just waited 30 minutes after mixing the epoxy. Once I added it to the individual cups with the mica i immediately started adding it to the cup :)
I’ve been dyiiiiing to do these for a little bit since I saw your amazing video. I just cannot get the HALO or BARBIE from PDB. They just never come back in stock. Can you recommend another 2 powders that would be like these perhaps a different company? I’d be so grateful! You are the goat on these northern lights cups in my opinion!!!! 😀😀😀
@@madebymal_studio So I tried it out. It was going sooooo good - I literally had you with me. Hahah. Anyway after I was finished blending them all in, there seemed to be a bunch of likely bubbles that look like little mica powder drops. I was trying to get them out and then started to over blend. Of course because the epoxy was so thick at that point. How did you perhaps handle bubbles still after spreading?

@@madebymal_studio I’m totally going to try that since my last go at mica powders left me with a bumpy cup
I'm definitely going to try this method! Thank you! I have to do a baby yoda, or Grogu, cup and this would be great in the background!
Oooh great idea!!!
Hello,
The tumblers are so beautiful. I want to try it. Can I use crystalac instead of epoxy?
Thank you! You can! But Im not sure how you would create this exact look. Maybe with some micas and paints? Im not too familiar with the cup making process for epoxy free!
What kept the initial resin mix from being lumpy as it hardened on the cup? Was it just because you kept it turning?
Hi! I just subscribed and watched this video. I have one question. You mentioned add the 2nd coat, sand, and add a final coat. What are you sanding?
thanks for subscribing! I lightly sand the tumbler to make sure its smooth before adding the final coat. This step is more important with glitter tumblers, but i always sand prior to the final coat to make sure the cup is totally smooth when finished.

This is amazing!! What about the bottom?
Thank you! I just finish them all the same- solid black 😊

Aw thank you so much! I’d recommend Mega Gild and and Pink Peony from Simply Sarah Customs. I also have a discount code with them! MAL10 for 10% off 😊
@@madebymal_studio thank you!!!

Mani and Mail! How can I pay to speak with you!! I need help with this project. Please help!!
Where to buy the vanishing mica powder
Where do you get the mica powders that you use in this video?
I only found the Barbie on pdb?
All the products I use are linked in the description box! The micas, other than Halo and Barbie, are from Simply Sarah.
Thank you!
I use swiftpoxy fast set, how long should i let it sit?
I wouldn’t recommend using fast set for this. But if that’s all you have, I wouldn’t let it sit at all really. Just go right in with your colors.
I went to the PDB site but I can’t find the vanishing micas 😞
The vanishing micas are from simply Sarah, not PDB :)
